I'm going to be really bummed if their new game is Fallout 4. :[

So will I, mainly on account of that I would like Obsidian to take over the reigns on the Fallout series. :awesome:

Skyrim! And not just that one island from Bloodmoon.

But really, I'd be happy to see anything new from that world. I wasn't that big a fan of Oblivion (still haven't actually finished the main storyline in it), but the core concept of the Elder Scrolls games is right up my alley--a huge, open world to do virtually whatever you want in with side-quests and easter eggs crammed into every possible corner. I'm always up for more of that.

Skyrim could be okay, but honestly, I wouldn't mind seeing them revisit the areas covered in Daggerfall with modern technology. That way we can cover Hammerfell, High Rock, and Orsinium. It would be geographically diverse and massive. That said, its hard to say what they'll do at this point. If I'm not mistaken, Bethesda also registered Valenwood and Summerset Isle domain names, so they could really go either way at this point.

I don't remember what Valenwood is, but that's a great name. Was that the Light Elves' home?

Yeah, the combat system definitely needs an overhaul. I think something more akin to Demon's Souls would be great. Something where you have to recognize enemy attack patterns and where the weapons feel more deadly. Honestly, anything other than their "hit the same button over and over until dude is dead" approach to combat would be welcome.

What's of greater importance to me though, is I really hope they put much less of an emphasis on level-scaling in TESV. I feel like that more than anything else caused most of the problems I had with Oblivion.
I'm not a fan of level scaling. I prefer just having different areas be different levels. If you head into a tomb and get your ass kicked, that should be a clear message that you want to find something else to do and come back to that tomb later. You get the feeling that you're getting stronger as you go and it's reinforced whenever you backtrack.

Exactly. It also helps make the world feel more "real" to me.

Fallout 3 had level scaling mixed with certain zones being harder than others and I think they did a much better job of it there.

I remember first leaving vault 101, heading straight into DC and running back out with my tail tucked firmly between my legs.

Good times.

lol

i always do the opposite when it comes to open world games, i always go the opposite direction were i should be heading, as i want to see as much as possible before getting into the main storyline.

So, the official title is Elder Scrolls 5: Skyrim

Trailer was awesome. Can't wait for it.

And it's coming out so soon, by the end of next year. :awesome:

Whats the plot? A dragon attacks the land? Guess I'll have to wait for more...

It seems more like this:
"The gate of oblivion opened, but the Daedric Princes were beat back. But that was only the beginning of their assault. A battle in Skyrim will signify the beginning of the end. The dragons will rise up, and the chosen one will be born from that fire."

My guess is that the main hero will start mid-battle.

I heard about this yesterday. My reaction is pretty much the same as with Uncharted 3's announcement, &%$##$%^&*&^%$#@#$#$#$% ****in awesome!!!!!. With an added, 'bout time, for teasing us with all the, "there is no Elder Scrolls V in the works", stuff.

I spent an ungodly amount of time on Oblivion. I was really sucked into that RPG in a way other RPG's hadn't before. Where a FF or Suikoden may suck me in with story, and gameplay, Oblivion was more for role playing a second medieval life without going to renaissance fairs.

I do agree tho that it had it's flaws I'd like to see fixed. I'd like to see level scailing gone. I didn't like beating down Goblins and Bandits at lvl 1, and 40 hours later see them tougher than ever in magically upgraded Daedric armor. I'm also not a fan of omnipotent guards. It didn't make sense to me that if I attacked someone in their home outside of a city, with no one around, that the entire world would know about it, and guards would appear before I even left the house. I'd also like to see the combat system improved, but still realistic. I don't want comic hero level acrobats, that'd just kill the immersion, but atleast alternate attack movements so every attack doesn't look identical.

Along those lines I'm hoping to see a new engine powering this game. The Oblivion engine is seriously outdated, not just from a visual perspective (to be honest I don't care too much about this) but a technical one.

Yes!

I've been waiting years for them to announce a sequel. I loved both Morrowind and Oblivion, though with Morrowind I never spent as much time on a game as I did. Oblivion was great too, but Morrowind I loved a lot more.

New engine confirmed!

You're kidding. You have to be.

Praise the Lord! The Oblivion engine is GONE!!! Animations sucked and the graphics were mediocre. Let's hope they improve a lot. :awesome:

oh come on, the engine was fine for its time. Oblivion for a time was the best game for the 360, better than Gears of War. It did become dated though.

I'm glad they're replacing the engine now.

Tbh, the Oblivion engine never bothered me all that much, but it's great to see a new engine! I can't wait for this game!!!

I agree. Coming out of the cave in to the open world for the first time was amazing.

The thing that eventually killed my enjoyment of Oblivion was the level scaled loot. Which Bethesda seems to have gotten a much better grasp on if there efforts in Fallout is any indication. Hopefully quest design is a little more like Oblivion though. The Dark Brotherhood quest line was great.

Awesome that it's a new engine. Now that they have id with them maybe they will be giving them advice for the new engine.

I can't wait to see some gameplay footage, I'm sure we have to be seeing some soon.

The Dark Brotherhood was the best part of Oblivion. Well, that and the later parts of the Mages guild along with the Mythic Dawn parts of the main quest.

I LOVED the Dark Brotherhood quest line. I was so disappointed when it was over :(

The Mage's guild was great, too. The fighter's guild was boring though; "Go to this cave and kill all the Goblins. K thanx" Plus you had to go to different city guilds constantly while the others you just went to one person, got quests from them for awhile, then moved on to another place.
