The critical reaction is about what I expected.

It'll still make a fortune.

Stevens sounds good, and Evans and Gad sound fun. Watson is not bad (although the autotune is obvious). But if you compare her to the original you will run into problems.

Evermore is very good indeed.

I didn't like it at first when I listened to the Josh Groban version.

but after listening to the Dan Stevens/Beast version multiple times, it's really starting to grow on me.

the lyrics connect with me, because I too have dealt with a broken heart before ( albeit for a much different reason ), so I understand the feelings of longing and torment that go with that experience.

It's hard trying to judge the film on its own merits, the original was a childhood favorite. I've listened to the soundtrack and score for the remake, and I feel let down for the most part. Menken even reuses portions of his score in places and it feels like a cut-and-paste job with new arrangements.

Hopefully, the film will be enjoyable, but the soundtrack hasn't impressed me.

You run into problems if you compare her with anyone who can sing well, period. She is simply not an impressive singer.

in the original film, Belle didn't really have much to do singing wise. Neither did Beast. So, I can forgive them slightly for not casting super strong singers for those roles, even if they have more singing in this film.

now,if they ever do a live action Little Mermaid film ( and I really hope they do ), they MUST cast a strong, proficient singer for the role of Ariel, since the character is practically defined by her voice. I'd be super pissed ( and I would not forgive them ) if they cast an actress for live action Ariel who couldn't sing that well.

Uh.
6.1 at imdb.
68% at tomatoes.
63 at metacritics.

Honestly I'm confused.

The bottom line shouldn't be that this movie makes a billion dollars. The bottom line is we get a good quality film. And I'm leaning towards we getting a billion dollar making movie with subpar quality that everyone seems to chew up :whatever:

Or the critics are wrong and the movie is great.
It wouldn't be the first time.

The more I listen to Emma Watson's singing the more I'm meh on it. And I can hear the obvious Auto-Tune. Listening to more did not help the situation.

I'm still seeing the film.
