I'll start things off by saying that i prefer IW.
IW is more balanced and better structured. Overall i think IW is a superior movie to AEG.

IW is the better film but has the benefit of being able to tell it's story without having to close out a narrative that's been going for 11 years.

I'd liken Endgame to TDKR; a wonderful end to a wonderful journey. Is it the best film in the franchise? No, but it gave us something special nonetheless.

Endgame got a bit wobbly and rushed at the end of the first act and the beginning of the second.
Infinity War was perfect from start to finish.
OTOH, Endgame was more emotional and that last hour is made from the staff that cinematic dreams are made of.

Overall I say Infinity War, but I reserve the right to change my mind after a few more screenings of Endgame.

Fresh out of Endgame I find it an overall disappointment, while Infinity War was one of my favourite movies of 2018. So yeah, it wins.

I think Infinity War had a much tighter screenplay and execution, and stayed truer to the characters too. In hindsight looking at when the filming would have taken place for Endgame, what material the Russos would have had to look at, I wonder whether the influence of Ragnarok might have negatively affected where they went with parts of the film.

Agreed. IW also had more individual hero moments. Much better storytelling and pacing too - it packs a lot in but does a better job of balancing it all out - also Thanos is a very strong protagonist in IW ( yes, that's right because he initiates all the action).

The one aspect that Endgame does better with is it's emphasis on Cap, who comes out of it looking more awesome than ever. Cap does very little comparatively in IW.

Having said all that I still recommend Endgame to everyone, it's a good movie. IMO infinity war was wayyy underrated by the critics. To me its one of the top 5 MCU films.

I think Infinity War is better. It's tight and well-paced, and I think Thanos is a better, more complex character in that one. As a big Thor fan I think he has a much better arc and portrayal in IW.

I think it might be a closer race after a few rewatches of Endgame, where I've come to terms with the things I was disappointed with (which in part probably are due to the curse of expectations), and can focus more on what's awesome about it, but I don't see it changing my ranking.

The Russo were right when they said endgame and infinity war two different films
it was a wise move not to call it infinity war part 2 because its not that nor was it ever trying to be




infinity war is a Thanos movie and all the avengers are playing supporting roles to him.
its has tons of massive action set pieces and the pacing is so fast that bucky and Captain America reunion didn't even feel noteworthy lol

Endgame is an avenger movie and Thanos is playing a supporting role to them.
It felt more character driven with more quieter character moments
honestly for me the last hour of Endgame blows away anything in Infinity war for me in terms of an emotional payoff ( Im sorry but the wakanda battle in infinity war fell flat for me )

plus Im a huge Captain America fan and infinity war really dropped the ball with that character in my opinion. Endgame handled his character way better and its not even close


I can definitely see way many would prefer infinity war but for me Endgame > infinity war

The Thanos movie was fun but I will take more Captain america over him any day....

Im actually happy how they handled Thanos

Thanos is character that does not deserve respect and glad they took it away from him in endgame

They finally put all that ridiculous nonsense about "Thanos did nothing" wrong to rest

In infinity war we saw everything from from his delusional point of view
he portrayed himself as a hero and lot of people left the theater actually buying the into his BS

but in endgame it shows him for what he really was all along

A power hungry thug who has done horrible things to both of his daughters


He is not complex nor is he some kind of savor that some keep claiming he is

he is crazed maniac who thankfully will no longer be able to fool anybody else with his hero act...

That was weird to me. I really thought Endgame would be better than IW partly because it had less characters to handle, but yeah, the MCU characters were portrayed better in IW.

Loved both but I'd say I liked Infinity War a hair more. Infinity War was great at juggling its enormous cast and giving everyone from Iron Man to Mantis their own hero moments. Perhaps what I loved most about it was how it gave us unexpected character pairings. You saw characters from completely different parts of the MCU colliding and interacting in ways that felt interesting but logical. That really gave it a feel of everything coming together for the grand finale.

Endgame on the other hand was focused on the original six plus a few additions. And that was great and necessary and I think it was successful in tying up the arcs of each of the main characters in a way that felt satisfying. But a lot of characters got short shrift. I think if the final battle had just had a few more "side-character gets to do something badass" moments that would have fixed that.
