Eragon

Same could be said about any fantasy movie for Rings is a very old fantasy story. I want to see this as a fan of fantasy. My greatest hope is that its a Willow good film. I don't expect this to be as good as Rings, Or Harry Potter.
I will see this just because i think it looks cool.

Danial Radcliff is no heart throb if you ask me and Harry Potter is a big franchise. Face lots of people already hate the film and its a waste for them to go if they won't even give ita chance.

Eragon will flop, I'll tell you why.

Lord of the Rings suceeded because not only was it magnificent, mind-blowing epic fantasy, it was a very human story. Characters you absolutely loved. So much emotion.

The Eragon trailers are pitching this as, "Look at all this cool fantasy spectacle!"

No chance. Sorry.

Perhaps, depends how hte movie is... I could see this having a decent opening weekend, nothing spectactular, and if hte movie actually good, having decent legs... But if the movie is crap, it'll sink fast...

Well it's a pretty lackluster holiday season, family movie wise. The only real competition it's going to have is Charlotte's Web and Night at the Museum. People are used to the idea of a LOTR or Potter at XMAS, so it could do well.

Go watch the LOTR trailers, they were presented in very much the same way. "OMIGOD! BIG ASS BATTLE SCENES! WHOA THIS IS EPIC!" And that was about it.

Just about every movie of this size advertises itself that way.

Absolutely, but sword and sorcery movies are so cliched - I mean, I bet everybody on this board could more or less guess the story of Eragon with 80% accuracy - that viewers lose interest very quickly.

Yeah, but A. The LotR trailers truly were amazing, and B. Lord of the Rings is one of the most popular books ever written, and a huge part of popular culture for decades.

I honestly think, from the trailers, that this looks like a movie Uwe Boll could have made with 100 million dollars.

We're the target audience for this movie, and from what I've read no-one is going to be rushing to the cinema to see this.

LOL, sounds like I'm against the movie, but I can't be as I haven't seen it. What I am against is the cynicism of the marketing campaign and the very fact that it is a cash-in on Lord of the Rings. The British advertising for the movie even used the phrase, "Catch the next big fantasy saga".

I'm definitely against the film... mainly 'cos it looks like a Uwe Boll joint and because the kid is fugly!

You've agreed with me twice now! Hehe! Yay!

We won't see it, but little kids will. They are the ones that have read the book, after all. Any popular novel translation gets an automatic fanbase.

This is pure hindsight, you will not know any of this until you actually see the film.

Funny also how a few of you are actually dogging this film due to the comeliness of the lead actor, there a trend developing here, something you guys might want to tell us?

^We don't like movies where the main male lead is hotter than us. Though by that logic we should hate every movie. Zing!
