Error Code (aka The Great PSN Easter Outage of 2011) - Part 1

I loved those old PS demo discs that had loads of demo games that were so fun you didn't even need the whole game. One of my favourites was a game where you could create your own robot warrior and then play against each other on a pretty large map. There was also this strange but fun game where you were a skeleton dude and killed zombies around on a graveyard. You could fight them holding your arm and hit them and all that kind of stuff. That game was kinda scary though haha

Are you talking about MediEvil?

Anyone with a Goozex account, I just found this out

Are you a PlayStation 3 owner feeling the blues about the PSN reboot? Well Goozex feels your pain and starting on May 9th, we gave all previous PS3 and Blu-ray traders free trades for the rest of the month! As part of the gaming community fabric, we felt we could play a positive role in helping PS3 gamers have a little more fun this month. And we know free trades can go a long way for Goozers. Here are the details about free trades for PS3 & Blu-ray Goozers:
-Free trades for any member that has completed a trade for at least one PS3 or Blu-ray item prior to May 9, 2011
-Users must have a feedback score greater than zero
-Free trades ends on May 31, 2011

Identifty Theft Protection details for UK, France, Germany, Spain, and Italy.

Last week we informed you that we would be liaising with providers of identity theft protection plans following the malicious attack on PlayStation Network throughout our region. We are now in a position to provide you with actual details of the programme for current PlayStation Network and Qriocity consumers in UK, France, Spain, Italy and Germany.
As I have explained previously, identifying such programmes for the many countries within the SCEE region is a very complicated process. Each country has a different way of handling identity theft; whilst some offer relatively sophisticated services, others may not. Therefore, we must stress that this is an ongoing process which will see new identity theft protection programmes identified where possible.
That said, we are pleased to advise that Affinion International Limited, a leader in identity protection products in Europe, will be offering a comprehensive service that covers a significant proportion of PSN users free of charge for the first 12 months.
Affinion International Limited will be offering the following identity theft protection service and insurance through their fraud protect programme for the UK, France, Spain, Italy and Germany.
The fraud protect proposition cover three key areas:*
Personal Information protection

  • Monitoring and Alerting Service
  • Personal Information Protection Software
Help / Assistance and guidance

  • Dedicated helpline
  • Victim of Fraud support
Financial Protection

  • Insurance that covers the expenses incurred in identity restoration following identity fraud
  • Card Monitoring and Alerting Service
We are still working to identify similar services for those countries not covered by this offering, and this will depend on reputable businesses offering appropriate services. As such, we promise to keep you updated on progress right here on PlayStation.Blog.
We will provide you with information on how to contact Affinion shortly about this service.
Please note that PSN customers under the age of 18 are advised to consult their parent or guardian.
*For information as to the terms and conditions of Affinion International Limited’s programme please visit:
UK – www.fraudprotect.co.uk
France – www.fraudprotect.fr
Italy – www.fraudprotect.it
Germany – www.fraudprotect.de
Spain – www.fraudprotect.es
* For eligibility for fraud protect consumers must be 18+ and be an account holder on 20 April 2011

Sony responds to critisim on the "Welcome Back" offerings...

http://www.giantbomb.com/news/sony-...laystation-networks-welcome-back-lineup/3201/

"I’m really sorry tha [sic] there is nothing there that you want," explained Caplin. "We’ve tried really hard to put together a list of high quality BD [Blu-ray disc] games, rather than simply offering cheaper PSN titles. The average metacritic rating for these games is over 84%, so these are high quality games. Unfortunately with a user base of 77m people, it is really hard to offer something for everyone."

I'm not one to complain about free stuff.. but "tried really hard to give great games rather than cheap PSN titles"? C'mon Sony. You're giving out two games that are fairly old and pretty cheap... Anyone who has a PS3 probably has BOTH LBP games by now.. and if you have PSPlus nine times out of ten you bought Dead Nation when it was like 5 bucks or whatever for PS+users.

I know there are people out there that think Sony owes us "nothing" and I guess people shouldn't complain about "free" stuff... but these offerings are, lets face it... Fairly weak.

Because I'd rather get games I don't already own. Especially if they have to sit on my hard drive. I've already gone through my games several times and traded in ones I didn't want. I like to keep games that are in a series, same reason I still Uncharted 1. I want to see Infamous 1 and 2 sitting next to each other on the self. Just my thing though. If other people want to get the same game twice, or maybe they already traded it in and want it again, let them.
I thought you didnt own all of them? If you do then this wont apply to you but if you dont thenId get them anyway bc they are free and will only be free for a month. There really isnt any harm in redeeming them. You dont HAVE to download them now to waste space on your HDD. As long as you redeem it, it will forever be in your download history to download at a later date

I'm actually quite glad inFAMOUS is a free one. I never finished it and just ended up trading it in... but like I always do I was planning on rebuying it before the sequel hits.

This way... I don't have to.

I DO think that maybe they should have given out inFAMOUS and LBP2 and that's it. I know LBP2 just came out and is still a bit pricey... but still.

The main thing for me is that, ultimately, I doubt anyone would have been totally satisfied with what they offered. There always would have been, 'But they could've have done [insert this] or [insert that], and why didn't they [insert situation], or why didn't they give us [insert number] games instead!' It's not the best list or anything, but they could have just given us some weak PSN titles, at least this list is solid.

I've heard great things about inFAMOUS so yeah, I'm pretty happy that it's up there, same with LBP. If I like LBP, I'll defo be getting LBP 2. Is there a sequel to inFAMOUS?

i do kinda agree the games on the welcome back package are kinda basic and nothing startling. though it is what i was expecting

but i will say this, as much as i love the ps3. sony fanboys are some the craziest hardcore nutjobs i've ever seen, hell you say one thing criticising this whole thing, which is still a major **** up by sony and they go around like you shot they're mother

I'm pretty happy with the choices. I also did not finish inFamous. I made the mistake of reading a spoiler and [blackout]learned about the time travel aspect[/blackout] and that REALLY turned me off from it. The game play wasn't enough to get me through what sounded like a mediocre story. I may give it another shot. Other than that, none of these games really excite me. Never got into LBP, might give Dead Nation or Wipeout a try.

ALL fanbases have their bat-**** crazy nutjobs. It doesn't limit to one video game system.

You do realize that you just spoiled it for others that didnt play the game?

Yeah, like me. Dammit it.

NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO:cmad::cmad::cmad::cmad::cmad:

Matt you need to edit that as that was the main twist in the story!

I dunno about that. I think if they had bitten the bullet harder, and had all five games as high caliber as LBP and inFamous...more people would have been happier. You can't make everyone happy, that's true. But they could have made more people happier.

But, it would have cost them more. So it's a balance act that they'd have to determine. Clearly, they determined this was the right balance.

Nah, they were in a no-win situation. Even if they'd made all them high calibur titles, people would have *****ed about them not being newer, and if they'd made them newer high calibur titles, they would have *****ed about how they should be given three games instead of just two, and so on and so forth. It became obvious that a lot of people wouldn't have ultimately been satisfied with any kind of compensation that Sony could have realistically given pretty just with their general attitude about it all.

I haven't played many of the Welcome Back games, partly because they didn't interest me. But I've nothing to lose from trying them out.

I'd rather find out when PlayStation Store returns.

Exactly. I called it earlier in this thread. It doesn't matter what Sony offered as compensation, because whatever it is, it's not going to be "good enough". They could have offered everyone a million dollars, and the response from some people would be, "Only one million? I wanted two million."

I don't want to "blame the victim" or whatever, but I feel like certain kinds of people use situations like this to wring as much free stuff out of it as possible.

My personal opinion is that I think this welcome back package that Sony has put together is pretty damn generous. Especially when you consider what their competitors probably would have offered if the shoe were on the other foot.

I don't. I own infamous and lbp. I'm gonna get wipeout for sure, but the other two don't really grab me. But I am leaning towards dead nation.

Their competitors probably wouldn't have to worry about being down for a month. :awesome:

One word: Undertow. :oldrazz:

Edit: I know it was not a whole month of lost service, but it is the closest comparison.

I'm sorry! Its been two years, I figured that the spoiler statute of limitations has passed. I mean hell, even video game publications discuss it openly in previews for the second game. Sorry again. :(
