I don't buy it, but I'm looking to change my debit card number anyway just to be safe. Going to try and keep a good eye on my credit report, too.

Ok, this is amusing.

"Top 10 Things Sony Can Do to Make Up for PSN Hack"

Here are some make-good offerings Sony might be considering.

10. Two free UMD movies, one to apologize for downtime and one to apologize for first UMD movie.

9. Unpaid internship at Sony PR department, pending victory on upcoming reality show.

8. Sony customer service reps will co-op Portal 2 with you and not spoil the ending, which they saw on the Xbox 360.

7. Since PSP Go owners were hardest hit, Sony to give a free game to both of them.

6. God of War director David Jaffe comes to your house, hangs out until things get awkward.

5. In case you forgot your password during downtime, Sony will paste a list of everyone’s passwords into a public blog post.

4. Jack Tretton, president and CEO of Sony Computer Entertainment of America, will make public admission that, in certain extreme situations, it is in fact possible to play a Nintendo 3DS while maintaining one’s self-respect.

3. Free download of “I survived the PlayStation Network outage and all I got was this lousy virtual T-shirt for this lousy virtual world” accessory for Home.

2. Sony promises to really knuckle down and get to work on The Last Guardian at some point.

1. Flowers on your birthday, sent by Sony and by the hacker who now knows when it is.

#4 is my favorite. :funny:

This is a nightmare with less than 2 months till E3. I hope Sony can recover by then and have this blow over bc its not the type of press and attention they will want hovering them during that show.

I reported my Debit Card lost so my bank would cancel it out and send me a new one just to be safe

I dont think they have it...the hackers claim they have the security numbers...the three numbers on the back of the card yet Sony never had them

Great point. Sony and all merchants are prohibited to store the CVV2 numbers. So like I said before, it's just hackers talking smack.

From Visa:

Card issuer validates your code

When you give a merchant your CVV2 code at checkout, that information is sent electronically to the card-issuing bank for verification and authorization. If a person attempts to use your card number but cannot provide a 3-digit security code, or if the number is returned as invalid, the merchant will cancel the transaction. For security purposes, merchants are prohibited from storing this number.

So whats everyone prediction of when the PSN will be back up an running? I hope Monday but I think Wednesday or Thursday.

Depends on what our definition of PSN "up and running" means, really. Sony said parts of PSN could be running next week, or atleast hinted at that. I'm assuming that means that maybe multiplayer could be working, but maybe PS Store would still be down?

It could be a few more weeks before EVERYTHING is up and running, from the sound of things. They're basically rebuilding PSN, aren't they?

I for one would be super happy with online play back up and running...I could wait for everything else to be up and running

I think they will open it up in stages. Starting on Monday and spreading the rest through out the week.

 1. First they will let us DL the new FW without access to anything else.
 2. Then open up access to our Account Management to allow us to change our password.
 3. Then open up online gaming.

I thought they said the first thing we'd have to do was change our password

They said that they are working on a System Update/FW, that would require us to change our Passwords once PSN is back on.

kal do you have a link to where they say that?

Sure. It was in part 1 of the Blog Q&A.

Q: When or how can I change my PlayStation Network password?
A: We are working on a new system software update that will require all users to change their password once PlayStation Network is restored. We will provide more details about the new update shortly.

I demand a week of free games as compensation
This outage has cost me great mental & physical trauma :awesome:

But seriously, it is a great relief to hear about the credit cards situation

I expect them to give us something... I mean, just because it's the decent thing to do. Free Finale Fantasy 6 perhaps? I'd take it.

I hope it's back before Tuesday! Man, all I wanted to do was play some A/Creed Brotherhood multiplayer... >_<

The PSN issue continues to trundle along, picking up rumours and creating doubts and fears along the way. Sony look set to finally address those fears and hopefully give their customers some more concrete indication of the network’s schedule of return with a press conference tomorrow.
Kazuo Hirai is to talk to the world’s press at the conference in Japan tomorrow at 2PM, local time (that’s 5AM 6AM in the UK or midnight 1AM, EST). It is obviously unknown what Kaz will say but we’d expect some further (or at least more detailed) information about exactly what was compromised, how it was stored and a more detailed road map for switching on what we hope will be a new and improved service.
The PSN hack and subsequent downtime has made international news, doubtless damaging Sony’s reputation as well as its stock price. Hopefully this press conference is the first step towards regaining consumer trust and keeping a more regular and informative communication with their consumers.

So from what I've read, we don't really have to worry about changing or cancelling our credit/debit cards?

This all incident is depressing as hell.
It goes beyond Sony and the Playstation brand, it goes about the fact that the human race is a piece of crap, able to destroy anything it gets their hands on.
To actually destroy something like art, something as innocent as a video game service, is fricking saddening.

People say that Sony should have a much better security, and that is true, but the point is, they shouldn´t have to.
