Your right, I didn't mean to seem condescending. I apologize for that.

Lets take a moment to talk the facts concerning the PSN hack. This is not directed to you, but for general discussion with everyone.

Sony got hacked. We do not know anything about what their security at the time was and we do not know how sophisticated the hack was. There have been rumors, but no facts to back them up. And contrary to the video TUE posted, CVVS numbers were not stored on their database. Every company has been hacked. Best Buy just got hacked for a second time, BOA was been hacked, NASA was hacked, and even the Secretary of Defense has been hacked. It's a part of life. Do you blame them for their security breaches? It's the hackers fault and they should get the the bulk of the blame in this.

Information. There has been no evidence that info was taken. No facts to back them up, just rumor and speculation. People knee jerking and decrying the sky is falling. Just in case though, we get a year free of ID protection. Seems reasonable, right?

Lets look at what we have here. Sony gets hacked (like many before them and will not be the last) and no information has been confirmed to be taken, we have a free year of ID protection, free PSN Plus and Qriocity, free game, other things unannounced, and a new/upgraded security system.

So my question is, why are people so mad at Sony and what exactly do you want from them, because all I hear is that they need to do more and they really messed up.

^Bravo.

All this pissing and moaning. Everyone's blaming the guy whose house got broken into instead of blaming the burglar.

Aside from the late communication to me from Sony, I have no problems with what's happen besides the usual concern that my information may have (or may not have) been stolen.

Yeah the only thing that has bothered me about Sony is the lack of communication and the time it is taking to get back up and running.

I'm sure it's just going to be one game chosen for each region.

It's a free game, if you like it whatever if you don't who cares.

Sounds about right, since people have multiple accounts.

I'm not mad about Sony. I'm mad about the freaking hackers.
Crackers, I might say.

I still don't think Sony needs to be excused as if they did nothing wrong, lets use the house analogy. Sony's house was robbed because they didn't even bother to lock the door... On top of that Sony was renting about a million rooms to other people...

So, yes they deserve some blame here.

Aaaaaand, it's still not up, as expected.

Tbh Sony needed a wake up call, what kind of company decides not to do something about their security knowing that it's vulnerable?

what makes you think Sony did nothing? Its absurd to think they had no security measures in place

Problem with that analogy is that nothing was confirmed as being taken (robbed) and you nor I have any idea how complex their security system was (door unlocked).

Bottom line, any company can get hacked if a hacker devotes enough time to it. Sony just happened to be on the top of the list.

Would you guys blame Sony if we found out that CC info was leaked/stolen? Just wondering.

CC info being taken from them would be a result of the hack and I would blame the hackers. However, I would blame them if we find out that the security was truly inept. They are under the microscope from everyone from the Government to the Boy Scouts, so if it was, we will find out. Right now there are not enough facts to make me blame them for this. Time will tell, but I am not going to lose sleep or get my blood pressure up right now over speculation and BS headlines.

It's hard to say without having full details, but every indication seems to be that most security was focused on the console side with minimal done on the PSN side aside from the usual.

By focusing their strategy on a 'security through obscurity' method, they counted on PSN being secure so long as the PS3 was secure.

I think this is why they went after GeoHot and anyone connected so intently.

If the numbers are true about how PSN is set up, it makes sense why they'd concentrate on keeping the console secure instead of taking down the network and starting over as we're seeing.

Of course, this is based on irc chat logs of hackers analyzing the network and Sony's security. So far, we haven't heard how they broke in, so until then it's all speculation.

I'm just glad that I was already a member of lifelock and that I changed my credit card as soon as it happened. Now I just want to play my games online, and get the patches that are pending. Sony America won't release any until PSN is back up!

patches are automatically available when you boot games up. PSN being down hasnt affected that. You can still download and install updates to games

Maybe some of them. But Bioware has stated that a ME2 patch is being held back (by Sony) until the PSN is restored. This patch fixes a big glitch with the Genesis Comic. The developers give Sony the patch to approve and release. I doubt this is the only one that is being delayed on the North American side.

Oh Im guessing that applies to new patches and not current ones.

From the EU Blog:

Both Kazuo Hirai and Sir Howard Stringer have stated that we will be offering identity theft protection for those affected by the malicious attack on PlayStation Network and many of you may have seen the details of the service available in North America.
As I have explained previously, creating a similar offering for the many countries within the SCEE region is a very complicated process. Each country has a different way of handling identity theft; some offer relatively sophisticated services whilst others are much more modest.
We are currently in the process of identifying how we manage this situation and once the programme is ready to launch, we will provide details of exactly which services are available in each country and explain how to sign up. We hope to do this early next week.
Also, look out for more information on the rest of our Welcome Back programme, including which free content you will be eligible for. We will be offering PSN users the opportunity to select two PS3 games from a list of five, as well as offering PSP users the opportunity to choose two games from a list of four. We will let you know exactly what games are available very soon.
Please be assured that we are continuing to work around the clock to have some PlayStation Network and Qriocity services restored and will provide you with specific details shortly.

So 2 PS3 games and 2 PSP games sounds pretty cool. I wonder what games they are going to offer though?

Two PS3 games? I really wasn't expecting that. I assume they'll be budget titles... 20 or so.

Also... I wonder if they'll be like... actual games you can buy at retail (only obviously digital copies) or if they'll be PSN titles.

I'd be really happy with Killzone 2.
I'm gonna buy the third one but I'd like to finish the second before that.
But maybe I'm dreaming too high.

I'd assume that they would be Sony exclusives like LBP, Uncharted, ect.
