Error Code (aka The Great PSN Easter Outage of 2011)

So from what I've read, we don't really have to worry about changing or cancelling our credit/debit cards?

No one knows. Seriously. No one can say that NO CC information was taken and be 100% sure, yet people also can't say CC info was stolen... so, people looking on the bright side are saying that no CC info was stolen.

Kaz Hirai is speaking on the issue tomorrow. He needs to be very humble. He needs to express his most sincere applogy on behalf of Sony, he needs to explain everything in great detail. He (and Sony) doesn't have much wiggle room here... He doesn't need another reason for people to get angry.

Just one bad statement from him could catch them in an even bigger crap storm.

Bottom line is we won't know a thing (officially) until Hirai speaks tomorrow. Some people fear that they may take PSN down for quite sometime and completely rework it.

This all incident is depressing as hell.
It goes beyond Sony and the Playstation brand, it goes about the fact that the human race is a piece of crap, able to destroy anything it gets their hands on.
To actually destroy something like art, something as innocent as a video game service, is fricking saddening.

People say that Sony should have a much better security, and that is true, but the point is, they shouldn´t have to.

Exactly, I am not really that mad at Sony. I doubt many people will be actually effected by what happened aside from phishing emails and this can only lead to a stronger PSN (which I would gladly pay for if they can get it on par with XBL).

It just sucks that this is something that a company has to worry about and spend resources on. Random people going around ****ing all of your business up and harassing your customers basically because you stopped allowing Linux to be installed on the system. It's crazy.

Who knows? Either way I already got my new card in the mail, so I'm good.

Exactly, I am really not holding that much against

What makes it even worse is that these hacker types are normally just living in Mom & Dad's basement probably leaching the system.

I changed mine just cause its better to be safe than sorry

Yeah, same here. I really don't think there's any real danger since they can't really have the security codes or PIN numbers, but better safe than sorry is always a good policy.

Agreed 100%!,One of the many reasons why I hate being human at most times and ashamed at humanity today!

Come on, guys, I know this is a crappy situation, but let's lay down on the hyperbolic 'Humanity is so awful!' stuff. Not like this even registers as a blip on the radar of horrors of the human race.

Sure but you have to consider how cheap & petty the hackers must be to do something like this.

Sony better reward the customers with something, and it better not be some damn free game. I expect being compensated for all my private information being distributed to who knows who

Compensation? You want them to send you a check? Ha! Fat chance.

We'll be lucky to get a "We're sorry, here's a free game" let alone anything else. Again, just wait and see what Hirai has to say tomorrow.

not to you,But in my opinion hackers are f'n scum, Especially these type of hackers!!

I'd accept Sony's apology by receiving two free arcade games(well ok even one)&a free month subscription for Plus!!.....Eh,I don't really blame Sony all that much and ain't mad at them!

First off, don't expect anything major in the way of compensation.

Second, it doesn't ****ing matter. Whatever compensation Sony offers, it won't be "good enough". They could offer everyone a free retail game of their choice, but I guarantee people would still find a way to complain about it.

In my opinion, the smart thing for them to do would be to email everyone a code that, upon activation, will deposit $15 in your PSN "wallet" or whatever it's called and you could spend it on whatever you want. This would accomplish two things...

1. It would sate the scorned masses. (Well, most of them.)
2. It would get people to buy stuff on PSN again.

Two birds. One stone.

Yup. I said 10 bucks... But I'd be cool with an extra 5. :awesome:

I'm willing to bet most of the information that was leaked could be easily found elsewhere if someone wanted to find it (birthday, address, etc...).

pretty much. Just do a google search of your name and you'd be surprised with what actually comes up

while that would be nice.I dont think they are entitled to give out anything. They are already losing quite a bit of money by shutting down their store for at least 2 weeks. They are in the hole for this month and getting deeper bc of all the extra costs they've incurred trying to clean this mess up. I dont think they can afford to just give out money to every single PSN subscriber. Thats not feasible or plausible at all. It'll be interesting to see what they do if anything, but I dont think people should be holding their breaths expecting anything and then getting pissed when they dont get something (which unfortuantely is exactly what will happen).

I think giving a free month of Plus to everyone is probably the only thing that could feasibly happen. It might entice people to use the store again.

Might bring new people too.
I never bought the Plus membership. I'd get it to see how it is.

I could see them giving out free Plus, but no money.
Think about it: 77 million PSN accounts times $10 or $15?
Not going to happen. Like Havok said, they have lost a ton of money by being shut down. No reason to lose a ton more. We still don't know if the hackers got anything in the first place. Guess we will know soon.

How long has that been up? Forgot that he was going to be doing that.
