invincibility or at least impervious to outside physical harm

this thread falls yet again into a trap of leaving the question too open to interpertation due to vague generalising which means the poll is invalid and won't give the impression it's intended for.

bah

Yep I just said that....

I would choose Invincibility, Eternal youth would be o.k. but after a while people would start wondering why you never got old. You would have to keep on the move all the time to keep people from learning your secret. You would also need fake ID's and stuff like that, I mean when your 70 and still look 25 people might not believe your ID and that could get you into trouble. As far as invincibility I would not care if anyone knew my secret.

To quote the immortal band Queen:

Who wants to live forever??

Besides with invinciblity I could become a superhero!

You need to change your sig to say "this is why I'm here" and not "this is way I'm here".

Hmm, decisions decisions...

Look young forever or become invisible...

I'd go with invisible, the perks are multiple, going in the ladies chan...

Oh INVINCIBLE...

sorry

So you think polls like this with a sample group this small have statistical validity. Computer polls are not even a random sample as those filling them in have to have be able to use a computer and have one available to use. The numbers involved are to low and the people present have a shared interest. However if your vague generalising is about the snap shot thoughts of group with shared interests all able to use a computer.... Well OK my friend - we could do that with some work.

not all polls are intended for completely randomised sampling.

this poll is created for people who have a shared interest in a media type, otherwise it wouldn't have any purpose here in the first place :o

having a computer or not has nothing really to do with what actually the options put forward in this poll actually realistically entail.

it's like me asking you whether you prefer harp beer to budweiser when more than likely you haven't tasted harp beer before because it's produced in west africa, it gives a false impression statistically.

people are making their own definitions of eternal youth and invincibility as they see fit and writing their answers accordingly when some of these parameters aren't what i feel are really associated with these states (or perhaps overlap or are more in tune with the other).

hence based on this, what we see in the polls may not be an exact representation of what is really meant to come across..

as for the percentage weights, i haven't voted so i don't get to see the values but there is hardly any polls on this website that have enough people participating in order for any significant trends to be found, studied and made concrete.

it's a light poll just to see any light trends. however people get on to vote has no bearing on the end result since it has no affect on our answers as no other questions are asked in conjunction with it.

:)

Nicely put. On a side note my "Real Batman" thread has a large poll response on it. I'd like to think it has a real idea of itself by now.

I've already got option 1, so I pick option 2.

The problem with eternal youth is:

a) watching all your friends & family grow old and die
b) trying to get seniors discounts when you look like you're 24
c) being expected to continue to hold down a job when you've already worked for 50 years
d) being treated like you know nothing by people young enough to be your son/daughter (or even grand child). You can get pretty tired of hearing "you'll know better when you reach my age".

Exactly what I was gonna say.

The way this poll was described kind of confused me......but I picked eternal youth because I'm afraid of getting old.

"Eternal" youth implies infinity and thus inability to die, but you qualify it.

Invincibility also implies inability to die.

Either or.
Both options sounds pretty much the same to me so my answer is... Neither.

after considering, I'd have to go with Invulnerability

With eternal youth, there's the possibility I could be killed before even living one year of extended life, rendering the choice pointless. Immortality like that also wouldn't serve to change my life in anyway for some time. And really, if you suddenly found out you had eternal youth, what would you suddenly do that you wouldn't be doing already? Then you get into things like watching your loved ones die and growing tired of life and what not. And there's always the problem of unfortunate circumstances leading you to being sentenced to life in prison. Or what if I fall off a cliff and break my back, but no one finds me for a decade? What if I break my back period and am stuck in a wheelchari for centuries? Or suffer some other injury I'm stuck with for all of time?

Now, with Invulnerability, my life can change today. I can walk right out the door, go to the highest point I can climb to, jump off and land without a scratch. Dozens of people will see, and I'll begin the instant road to being a celebrity. Or I can offer my services to the police or the government, and be paid large quantities of money for being an indestructable soldier. Or maybe Hollywood would like to use me for a stuntman (or leading man? ok, that's a stretch). The fire department sure could use a guy who can't be hurt by flames. NASA probably wouldn't mind a guy who can survive in space. Oceanographers could use a guy who can walk ont he oceanfloor. the possibilities are limitless.

So basicly it's a qaulity versus quantity situation, and I choose a limited quantity of quality over an unlimited quantity of lesser quality.

A nice point. I wish I could change my vote...

Does the Invulnerability include the ability to not contract any STD's? If so then I'm all for it.

Anyway, i'd pick invincibility...i guess.
Live life to the fullest:up:

life in prison isn't actually life, it's a given time, you wouldn't spend the rest of your time behind bars...

and although otherwise stated by the thread starter, eternal youth doesn't mean that you yourself are eternal, it could just represent that fact that you live the same life span but you are just ageless. although that comes down to sematic of if you are the same age then your bodily functions won't die out or run down and cell regeneration will be at a tip top shape so you 'could' live forever at this pace if indeed nothing happens to you that may spoil your chances (infection, disease, children sucking your money, yadda yadda yadda).

again it comes down to interpretation.

again goes with invulnerability as even beings in marvel have their invulnerability measured against one another with some just having it stated and some being described as having VAST amounts. again it doesn't say what you are invulnerable to whether its physical harm, mental harm, medical conditions, poison etc, a woman's touch. it doesn't say whether or not your invulnerabilty means that your old cells don't fall off cause they don't die and you end up being dirty and smelly, it doesn't say anything about whether you would be able to shave since the blades won't be able to cut your invulnerable hair, heck you couldn't even pop a spot, you could be spotty forever.

and if anything, if you were found to be immortal, you'd be taken to a lab and studied intensively and not utilised in any of the ways you speak of (if the news became public).

your best bet would be to act like wolverine and get the nickname of 'luck jim' and not exploit your abilities.
