So what if anything does this mean for Avengers 2

Evan Peters Joins X-Men: Days of Future Past as Quicksilver
by Silas Lesnick
May 23, 2013

Some very interesting news has just landed as director Bryan Singer has revealed, via his Twitter feed, that "American Horror Story" star Evan Peters has joined the cast of the upcoming X-Men: Days of Future Past in the role of Magneto's son, Pietro Maximoff, aka Quicksilver. The news arrives in the wake of confirmation from Joss Whedon that Quicksilver and his sister, Wanda Maxmioff, the Scarlet Witch, both have roles in his script for Marvel's The Avengers 2.

"Before he was an #Avenger," Singer writes, "he was just a REALLY fast kid. Thrilled to say #EvanPeters is joining #XMen #DaysOfFuturePast as #Quicksilver."

The news also arrives following confirmation this morning that Saoirse Ronan is interested in taking on the Scarlet Witch role in Marvel's The Avengers 2. The actress is said to be the "model" for Whedon's iteration of the character.

"We both have them," Marvel Studios President Kevin Feige told SuperHeroHype of the character rights last summer. "There's a specific arrangement with those two characters that would allow us to use them with 'Avengers,' but not discuss or reference their mutant or Magneto-related lineage. They can use them as mutants and as Magneto's relatives, but cannot have anything to do with 'The Avengers.'"

Peters will join Ian McKellen, Hugh Jackman, Patrick Stewart, James McAvoy, Jennifer Lawrence, Michael Fassbender, Anna Paquin, Ellen Page, Shawn Ashmore, Peter Dinklage, Omar Sy, Halle Berry, Daniel Cudmore, Fan Bingbing and Boo Boo Stewart in the mutant ensemble, set for release July 18, 2014.

The film is based on the comic book storyline "Days of Future Past," which ran in Uncanny X-Men #141 and 142 back in 1981 during Chris Claremont and John Byrne's run and introduced the idea of an alternate future for Marvel's mutants that grew out of the Brotherhood of Evil Mutants killing an important senator, leading to a future where all mutants are hunted by Sentinels.

Marvel's The Avengers 2, meanwhile, is scheduled for release on May 1, 2015 and, while unconfirmed and unprecedented, the possibility does exist for potential collaboration between 20th Century Fox and Walt Disney Pictures and, while it's hardly indicative of how he'll be portrayed in the final film, Singer does mention Quicksilver's Avengers connection in his tweet. Check back for details as soon as they become availlable.

Wow what a bunch of *****ebags! Screw you Fox and screw you Singer! They are inserting him into this already jammed, total clusterf*** of a film for no other reason than to get the jump on M/D. I hope this film is worse than Superman Returns...if that's even possible!

I know I'm just one pissy fanboy but I'll never pay money for a Fox/Sony Marvel based film again. Good luck with your "Cinematic Universe" you got going on; you know the one where the guy who's "running it" hasn't even spoken to anyone yet?

*****ebags! End Rant.

Or perhaps Marvel and Fox decided that it would be best to have Quicksilver and Scarlet Witch established in another film so they could avoid having to explain who they are.

Ya know. Just saying.

Why would they want to work with the disaster that is Fox's "MCU"? (I can't highlight the quotes enough). Why would they want to be associated with that mess when they've had NOTHING but success?

Why wouldn't they? The X-Men franchise has been fairly successful too, and the characters are fairly iconic. The truth of the matter is that all these films are already associated with each other. They're all Marvel films. They all share a logo that flashes up at the beginning of all their movies.

The truth is that this could be the potential of something huge. Cross-company cooperation, incorporating some really awesome characters together. This could be incredibly progressive. I wouldn't write off either party just yet.

pricks. casting a character that late in the game when shooting has happend for weeks now and just for a small cameo role just to make it harder for MS.
exactly what I expected from the FOX *****ebags

I doubt it. This smells like to me Fox heard Whedon was using him, so they wanted to be able to say me first. He'll probably be used as another pointless cameo like most of the other X-men movies.

Give me a break. Then you'd have an empty character in A2 with no real explanation. How he's represented in DOFP cannot be carried over into A2 as far as him being a mutant and familial relations to Magneto.

Do a quick reshoot and put a quicksilver cameo in Thor 2

Screw Fox, Screw Singer, I won't pay to watch DOFP.

If we're lucky we'd get something like Arclight from X3, at which case I don't foresee anything meaningful enough to jeopardize TA2's Quicksilver. The only thing I'm worried about is if that "first come first served" thing is true.

Heck, they could always just do one of their short films. Quicksilver & Scarlet Witch: First Strike! :woot:

I like how everyone is automatically assuming that Fox is trying to pull a fast one on Marvel studios, and no one seems to even entertain the notion that as soon as Whedon got the notion to use Wanda and Pietro in Avengers 2 the Marvel folks set up a meeting with the Fox folks and they at least tried to work out a deal.

I mean, it's entirely possible that this is corporate dick waiving, but we've got nothing to go on that proves that.

Unless Fox actually sues over Marvel's intended usage, I would put this down as petty childishness and nothing more. Especially with the Fox usage apparently being "one action scene," it won't matter as far as Avengers 2 goes.

I hope that's ^ the case. If not I feel like Singer and DOFP are going to embarrass themselves when A2 version comes out. :(

YAY! I'm happy about this!

I always prefer the X-Men over the Avengers.

well guess what films are getting re released next year and 2015 lol

Avengers as a lead in to GOTG
and The Incredibles to stick it to fox's F4

Thats not gonna happen. Disney aren't gonna fast track their movies just because FOX pissed them off with this move.

I guess the positive could be that this opens the door for more characters to be shared with restricted backstory. Like the silver surfer and galactus being in a marvel studios film. As long as they don't mention the ff4. I would love to see them in this new cosmic phase 2 of marvel studios.

Nowhere in his comment did he indicate that Disney/Marvel was going to fast track movies. He was talking about re-releases.
