First, it's Showtime not allowing it's "on the air" shows to be streamed. And now, Starz is making people wait 90 days to watch episodes of their shows and their movie premieres. I know many of these companies are jealous of Netflix's success and want to hurt it, but they're only hurting themselve.

Well ya...they want to make sure they are still making $$.

And if they could get ratings off of Netflix viewing then things would probably be a little better.

These are premium channels. They don't rely on ratings. They rely on subscribers. And really, Netflix PAYS THEM for their services. So, they're getting additional viewers and cash thanks to Netflix. Like I said, they're just hurting themselve.

It's cheaper to own Netflix than it is to pay for HBO and Cinemax. So, it would be dumb for Netflix users to be able to see HBO and Cinemax stuff shortly after they air. If I could watch HBO shows a week after they air on Netflix, I would just cancel my HBO.

HBO and Cinemax aren't widely available on Netflix. It's mostly Starz and Showtime to a lesser degree. Both could benefit from the exposure.

I have no intention of subscribing to premium channels. If they aren't on Netflix, then I won't watch them. I'm not going to pay all that money just because they have 1 or 2 shows that sound interesting.

I like using Netflix service but no interest in upgrading to Starz. I'm not a fan of the wait for new releases but I don't want to see video stores go out of business ..well blockbuster

Man it's a good thing TV shows suck nowadays so I'm not missing much.

can I get a WHUT WHUT!!

So I won't be seeing episodes of Camelot as they air? What the ****! :cmad:

this is just a terrible post. yes netflix pays them for use of their programs, but not nearly as much as they'd make if the people who watched them through netflix subscribed to the channel. it's like justifing a guy stealing $30 worth of junk food from a gas station because he paid for a candy bar on his way out. a 90 day wait is a fair compromise.

All I know is this is going to hurt when season 2 of Spartacus airs next year. :csad:

Ahaha, I used to do this all the time.

I stopped buying the candy bar.

The exposure does more good than harm. This is like when a network TV series goes on syndication. The network is no longer getting ad revenues, but they're still making a good profit nonetheless. Netflix hasn't really affected Starz or Showtime. It has just been additional business for them. They're just jealous that they haven't been able to pull off what Netflix does. It's as simple as that. Hulu was essentially a big "f--k you" to Netflix and now other channels are trying to figure out ways to screw them as well. That's why Netflix is now in the process of developing original programming. They know the writing is on the wall. By the end of the decade no channel will be streaming their content through Netflix. That's their ultimate goal.

Eh, guess I'll have to watch something else then.

I hear that Netflix also streams movies.

I know, and if I want to see a movie so badly, I can buy a DVD. Netflix has let me catch up on cancelled TV shows I like or was curious about (Stargate SG-1, Mystery Science Theatre 3000, Firefly) and watch movies I either haven't seen in a while or wouldn't spend money to check out.

I agree with Catman. This is just the entertainment industry slowly banding together to take down Netflix.

Hopefully Netflix can survive this.

I think the industry is going to move away from a central providers like Netflix and more towards individual channels and/or producers streaming their own content directly to consumers. This way they can cut out the middle man and keep the revenue to them selves.

No skin off my nose. All I watch on Showtime is Dexter and all I watch on Starz is.... nothing.

netflix, cable, and satellite tv are dumb.

It's so much nicer popping over to a "site";

- downloading tv shows minutes after they finish on the air
- download movies (old or just released) not yet on Blu-Ray
- download tv series that are not released (Boy Meets World, Power Rangers, etc...)
