Evil Dead (2013)

I like the idea, but I'd be more excited if the remake hadn't happened. It'd be like Sony resurrecting the Maguire Spidey movies, while still going with Amazing Spidey.

Not really. Raimi's Evil Dead is a very special and very different thing.

Won't audiences get confused by there being multiple evil dead films coming out with nothing to do with each other?

They can always call ED4 "Army of Darkness 2", "Medieval Dead", or something. I don't see any future adventures of Ash taking place in a cabin in the woods after the last outing.

oh sure, NOW he wants to jump back into the franchise when it's fresh and new.

Awesome, I hope so. I always liked the idea of this being just a new group of kids and not fully ditching the original series.

Really want an ED4, Raimis been saying that for years though. Fingers crossed.

What if the "reboot" is technically Evil Dead 3 and it leads to Evil Dead 4. Army of Darkness is sort of a side story.

its always good to hear news like this, but its gonna be really random to see ED4 in cinemas when the reboot just happened

though truthfully i always put ed4 in the same group as a new ghostbusters & masters of the universe. ie i'll believe it when i see on set filming

Yeah, it's like when I met Bruce Campbell back in the fall of 2002 at a book signing. Someone asked about Evil Dead 4. He said "Let's call Sam Raimi and ask if he wants to make Evil Dead 4 or Spider-Man 2." I just feel like Sam Raimi is going to have other stuff that would make more sense financially (like if Oz becomes a new franchise). It's been 20 years since Army of Darkness. I'd like to believe that the audience for it is still there, but who knows. I mean, I didn't see the Evil Dead movies and fall in love with them until shortly before I met Bruce back in '02. Then, a couple years later, Bubba Ho Tep was the first movie to ever sell out this huge theater downtown, so the force is still strong with Bruce. I would really like to believe that the ever growing cult following for the Evil Dead movies, along with the remake and adding "from the director of Spider-Man and Drag Me To Hell" will help sell it, as well.

I really thought Bubbu Hotep was pretty lackluster, I was really disappointed.

It screens on Friday at the SxSW film festival, so we should have plenty of reactions soon.

FWIW, I see it as a good sign that they're confident enough to screen it significantly in advance of its opening. Certainly that's better than dumping it on 1000 screens with a review embargo in place.

By the way, Raimi clarified his comments on Evil Dead 4. He was pretty much bulls***ing. He only said that while he was sitting in front of a crowd of people yelling at him to say yes after someone asked him if he was stil considering making an Evil Dead 4. His brother really does apppear to be into it, but Sam, less so.

I can't wait for some reviews out of SXSW.

Why? Ash doesn't exist in the reboot. They are pretty much just a new group of kids at the Cabin.

Simple, Ash time travels back to the future after the events of the reboot. :o

who mentioned ash. its just random its like people said its like announcing spider-man 4 with tobey etc just after the amazing spider-man came out. the public will have no idea whats going on.

as much as the fan community love it, the evil dead isn't greatly received in the mainstream, hell its only really known by joe public in the uk as a video nasty.

so if the remake does well then its announced that the next is ED4, its just going to cause confusion.

From what we've seen, there isn't really anything contradicting them from taking place in the same world. Characters are different, and Ash's car is there. Probably just the Raimi tradition, but it is in full view in the trailers. If they crossed over the only thing that would be a problem would be the title "Evil Dead 4" confusing people. Most if not all these kids are gonna die, so they would need new characters after. Bringing in BC wouldn't be confusing, and thats really all they need for it to be considered a "ED4". They could even just call it ED2 and bring in Ash if they wanted.

Does anyone want to see this new franchise go two or three movies with no Ash? That character will still be the main thing people associate with the title "Evil Dead" years after the reboot hits.

At least he said he wants to work on it, no one is completely saying it's not a possibility.

I just don't want to see this franchise become a new group of college kids vs deadites every movie. This works good for a reboot of 1, but the reason this franchise has lasted is cause of Ash. If they don't bring back BC then they will have to recast the character for a sequel.
