Fabian Wagner is the cinematographer.

It's an overcast day. Last time I checked, that's what overcast days look like. And it's not surprising considering that a day later or so, it was storming and raining...

Yeah but does it have to be overcast all the time....?

Even the night scenes in Suicide Squad look more alive than the daytime in BvS. Pretty sure Snyder gonna have to change the filters for JL, there is no way in hell WB allow him to continues with this desaturated imagery.

Look how crystal clear is Wagner's cinematography on Victor Frankestein, even in nighttime:

Everyone seemed to be on board with Fong when the trailers came out. Everyone seemed to love the colors, especially the day of the dead scene. Not sure why everyone suddenly flipped. I personally loved the look of MOS and wish they kept with that, just got rid of the shaky cam stuff.

Loved what Fong did with BvS. Cinematography was leagues and bounds above Man of Steel. The framing, lighting, shot composition and blocking. Fong is far superior than the trigger hand that was Amir Mokri who couldn't keep his fingers off the zoom button and kept shaking the frame.

I liked cinematography of MoS more then BvS.
There were more wider shots in MOS than in the BvS and also a lot of naturalistic one like Smallville scenes. BvS' shots were tighter. I hope that they go back MOS' type of shots for JL.

that because they went with handheld cameras for the most part in MOS. They wanted a naturalistic feel to it. I liked it but think smoother camera shots would've been better. I still loved the cold steel look of MOS but i saw nothing wrong with the cinematography of BvS.

You realize that a cinematographer cannot do anything like that on his own ? He has to shoot a movie in a way the director tells him to do, just watch other works of Amir Mokri, for example his work in Transformers Revenge of the Fallen is nothing like MoS, it's just like Michael Bay's other movies, where there was a different dop.

Never suggested otherwise, but given the fact that Snyder has never used close ups and zooms like he did in MOS, it felt more like a Mokri trademark and DP's do shoot specs to show their plans for camera set ups for scenes. Snyder must have approved the zooms for sure but I'm not 100% confident it was his idea.

Just looked up some of the GOT episodes this guy did and I see that he adheres to modern practice of drenching the night scenes in blue filter, making it all look like it's under water, and giving daylight scenes unnaturally yellow hue. Don't like it. Not. One. Bit.

Could be that's what "Game of Thrones" usually aims to look like, though... will have to look some of his other work, before I can really judge this guy's style.

Maybe im wrong but i dont think he'd be allowed to completely change a color palette of a show because it fits his style. Shows would turn into complete messes if every episode looked different.

Yeah, it's probably GOT thing. From what I've seen, his work on "Da Vinci's Demons" looks different. Problem is, there's not that much of higher profile stuff to judge this guy's work.

Don't forget, he did work on Sherlock as well and that looks nothing like GOT.

Plus color correction and grading is down to the director, not really the DP.

Exactly... :funny:

It's like if in Autum (time BVS is) they want to see sunny days like in Spring or Summer... Logical, right?

This appears more the thread of "let's **** on anything BvS related in a JL thread because we hadn't enough in the others threads, why not?" rather than the JL cinematography thread :funny:

THIS IS THE JUSTICE LEAGUE MOVIE, Move on!

I need examples of his work. All I'm seeing is Fong and TDK and Suicide Squad stuff.

Here you go.

His GOT work is consistent with the camerawork on the first two seasons (supervised by at least several other DPs), so it's not a really good representation of his work.

"Sherlock", Victor Frankenstein and "Da Vinci's Demons" are. Very distinct from Fong and Mokri's lensing. Not to mention the palettes look livelier and less dreary.

Wagner's demo reel doesn't seem to have a lot of 35mm work. A lot of the scenes featured are digitally-sourced (mainly the Arri Alexa), but I think Snyder wouldn't hire him if he wasn't willing to use actual film stock.

As long as Snyder and Wagner don't overdo the color correction and contrast, JL will look distinctly different than MOS and BvS.

yup i agree 100% BVS cinematography made the world feel small and very sound stage like where man of steel was very sweeping, grounded and real

So beautiful, I'll never understand the complaints that the film was too desaturated, sure in the interrogation scene but that's it.

god MoS is gorgeous. it's one of the most gorgeous CBM i've ever seen.

I was completely against the colors of the trailers, especially the DotD scene. They all looked like they ate poison. :o

But I agree, MoS's look was fantastic.

I blame all the dumb articles for the change. I just remember stupid videos like "what if MOS was in color"
