I thought it was a good movie, not without flaws but much better than the first one.

The exposition went on too long and the movie only started to pick up when Thor and company started planning Loki's escape. From there, it was a great ride full of twists and turns.

With so many characters, the movie tries to carry so many subplots together to give everyone some good screen time so that makes it suffer in the end. I think it would be good if they cut down on the number of characters in Thor 3, but then a lot of people would complain if their favorites didn't make the cut. You don't see as many characters in the Iron Man movies and I think that works in those films' favor.

Natalie Portman's character was annoying in the first half but got better when she got back to Earth and showed she could kick ass with science. Her relationship with Thor was also better in terms of chemistry, though still not sizzling.

Kat Denning's Darcy was more bearable this time around.

Anthony Hopkins seemed bored with his Odin, though Rene Russo rocked as Frigga.

Also, I wanted more Sif.

I also loved the scene with Heimdall running after the Dark Elf ship. Idris Elba is such a cool guy.

Chris Hemsworth's acting has improved so much. He showed his chops in Rush and he really owned it as Thor in this sequel.

On Loki, I agree with all those who said Tom Hiddleston's performance was the best part of the movie. Every scene he was in was a joy to behold. I say give the guy a Best Supporting Actor Oscar nomination (though I doubt he'd win given the potential competition). As an actor, he also seems really invested in his character. He influenced how the cameo played out and there's also an article (I can't find it right now) about how he suggested the scene showing Loki's rage after receiving the Bad News (not to spoil it for those who haven't seen it).

I was always hoping for a redemption arc for Loki and we kind of got it here.

Here's my idea or rather hope for what went down on his main plot point.

I think he actually died, or he actually sacrificed himself. That would explain why Thor could actually hold Loki in his arms. If Loki wasn't real, Thor's arms would go through the illusion. I think The Collector or an agent of Thanos brought him back to life (or maybe kept him from actualy dying?) and helped Loki find a way to push Odin off the throne on the bargain that Loki would deliver the infinity stone to him in exchange. That would explain why Sif and Volstagg gave the Aether to The Collector in the mid-credits scene and why Loki was able to get rid of Odin in some way.

You are totally on point with that observation! I just never made the connection on why Odin would send such a powerful artifact to the Collector of all people until I remembered Loki on the throne. Damn! Loki must still remember the Other's threat towards him in Avengers and is trying to fix things with Thanos.

As much as I loved Terminator 2 I had the same problem with that, how dumb was the T1000 to try and kill John Connor that way ? chasing after him like a psycho cop. Just turn into a regular Joe once you locate him and shank him at your convenience, of course he's gonna run from a cop ya big dummy.

I'm pretty sure the T-800 could recognise the T-1000?

Also, the T-1000 tried other disguises but it didn't work. He tried being the adoptive mother but the barking of the dogs gave it away. The cop was actually a good disguise in that it allowed other humans to ignore him, but he couldn't get close because the T-800 was a step ahead. At the end, he tried shapeshifting into sarah connor, but it didn't work well because he was damaged.

I thought it was great. There were a couple things I didn't like, mainly how convenient everything was...
- Jane being transported directly to where the ether was
- Jane and Thor randomly wandering into a cave that shares the same portal as the London warehouse
- also I didn't really get how they trapped the ether at the end and send malekith to the other realm

Going to watch it again soon tho!

I saw this last night and I have to say that Thor:TDW was a pretty fun movie and quite the spectacle. I felt that the visual effects and the way they brought the different realms to life was pretty stunning. There were a few shots that had the look of obvious green screen, but for the most part this was a beautiful movie.

Thor and Loki's back-and-forth was great as always, the two of them have a great rapport on screen. Both actors do a tremendous job of bringing those characters to life. I thought of all of the supporting characters, Frigga was the one to that stood out the most in this. Barely on-screen in the first film, Rene Russo really delivered some powerful scenes in limited time.

My only real disappointment with the film was Kurse. I thought Thor and Kurse would have a more prolonged conflict. I thought their conflict could've used just a bit more time to display some serious power. Malekeith was a bit thin but credible enough as a villain and certainly posed a threat to Thor.

Overall I'd give this an 8/10.

Just got back from seeing it the second time and I must say I enjoyed it more than the first time..
I saw little things I overlooked..
I still think a couple of scenes from Darcy at the end needed removed.
The audience loved it at my Theatre..
I still think the mid credit scene is stupid..
I still rate this movie a 8.5 to 9/10.
Trust me, go see it again and you will enjoy it more....

Well, I liked this one just a little more than the first. The scope, visual fx, cinematography and overall production values were far and away better (as expected), but the pacing was really weird for me. The beginning felt slow and then key moments felt rushed, imo. I feel like there may be a lot on the cutting room floor of this one.

I also had some issues with plot conveniences as others have mentioned and Malekith was total stock villain to me, but overall it was a fun time, and that's all I was hoping for. I'd put it somewhere in the middle of the pack in the Marvel pantheon. 7/10.

Not gonna lie, the Cap trailer (and cameo) was my favorite part. I'm SO ready for that movie.

I have never felt more patriotic. :awesome:

Damn, I didn't notice that either. They should make a one shot or whatever from what Loki went through from the moments after the first Thor and prior to The Avengers.

I saw the Cap trailer back to back with the Robocop trailer during Thor 2 - both trailers looked and felt like they were the exact same film.

Same editing style, same music beats, same tone and feel. Although to be fair it's common place for action trailers these days.

I was about to disagree, but then I remembered my theater showed the old Robocop trailer before Cap's (the 5-min). I can see the similarities with the new RoboCop trailer, but the actual Cap movie looks far better to me. I loved the opening scene so much.

The only thing I really liked about the Cap trailer was the fact Robert Redford was in it - I never thought I'd see the day such an acting legend would appear in a big budget popcorn movie like that.

Doesn't matter much, as trailer quality is a poor predictor of film quality, as 2013 taught us :-)

I'm a lot more excited for Robocop, though it will be at risk of a fanboy backlash, apparently the original movie from 1980s is good.

Nice to see him having a bit of a resurgence with this and All is Lost.

And you didn't like that elevator scene? :wow:

It just seemed like standard action movie stuff to me. What gives me pause however is Redford's involvement, he's like one of the choosiest actors in the business so for him to be in Cap 2 really says something. Either that or he lost a bet.

To each their own. It has me more excited for that film than any Phase II trailer has so far.

Could simply be a better payday?

I was also bored by the elevator scene. I think we're supposed to be excited by the guy with dark hair catching Cap's shield?

You know what's a good action sequence? The Joker in TDK using the goon's skull to crush a pencil.

:whatever:

I loved the pencil moment but I would never describe it as an "action sequence."

Thought this was a fantastic movie. It certainly has that Marvel style feel and humor which is signature by them IMO. Yes there's a mix of dark moments with some throw away comedic lines once in awhile; but this is obviously the way its going to be in these movies since their trying to please/entertain comic book fans in one hand and take it to the bank with families/children in the other.

This movie fits very nicely in the MCU. It got me excited for the 2014 movies which as much as I liked IM3, with or without its controversial flaws, didn't seem to do for me, even with the Extremis possibilities. TTDW left you with a cliffhanger asking yourself a few questions about what's happened in Asgard and the mid-creds got me excited about GOTG. The Infinity Gauntlet is in full motion and I'm pumped!

I think Odin knew. Didn't you see the look he gave that guard.

totally agree. And jeez. "We just came back from svartalfheim and I found a body"

"Oh really? WHEN I TOLD NO ONE TO LEAVE AND THE BIFROST WAS CLOSED?!" :BA

I'll try to help you enjoy it.

Jane was searching for the convergence on Earth ("even though she didn't know it") with advanced tech and found a point where the realms were colliding.

The realms plural were colliding so the place where Loki brings them in Svartalfheim from Asgard is also near where the collision is between Svartalfheim and Midgard. Not too convenient, just part of the plot.

The last point you mention is strange to me too. That all happened too quickly. But I assume Selvigs invention collapsed the energy into its more portable state. Watch it again for me and let me know.
