The marketing for this film has been terrible from the start. They haven't been putting time or effort or money into the marketing and the result was those lousy, awkward character descriptions that Kinberg now has to disavow the film from.

As Flint mentioned, there was similar confusion with the marketing on DOFP. So to be fair, I guess this is just Fox's MO.

Okay then it seems we are arguing semantics here.

Per Wikipedia:
"A black hole is a mathematically defined region of spacetime exhibiting such a strong gravitational pull that no particle or electromagnetic radiation can escape from it."

Once you cross the event horizon whether or not you get "sucked" in or pulled in is irrelevant - there's no escape.

Things don't get "pulled" in either. They just can't get out once they have gone in on their own (ie, falling in). Not to be picky, but it sort of shows how people can get confused or misunderstand a concept after reading "scientific" explanations. :cwink:

That whole explanation for Reed's powers sounds like utter BS but honestly I wouldn't put to much thought into it. People will just see the dude stretch in his own space. When I rent my RedBox FF movie I will see him stretch too. Simple explanation.....the negative zone did it.

Guess they can't compare this crap to Chronicle anymore since Trank never explained how they got their powers at all and now he's overcompensating.

This is one of those massive grain of salt things, but there's a rumor that the X-Men films are rebooting after Wolverine 3. I'm not getting my hopes up, but maybe a Spider-Man type deal is in the works. El mayimbe gets his doubters, but the dude's had a crapload of legit scoops lately, especially with Suicide Squad.

I would love for X-men to go back, but I don't see that realistically happening. FF could crash and burn again for all we know, but the X-men franchise is still a potential cash cow. I don't see them putting it down unless they either get something from it or they don't see a viable future for the franchise (like it costing too much and not returning enough profit).

They could easily get one thing we know for a fact they want by agreeing to a Marvel coproduction deal: television rights. Also, the last X-Men film was less profitable than recent MCU films (it cost more, made less domestically, and they have to give Marvel a cut, which Sony hasn't done since they first made negotiations a few years back). Financially, a deal would actually make sense if Fox agreed to trade merch rights for that percentage they currently give Marvel plus television rights.

Well the last time I flew my spaceship near one I decided to steer clear just to be on the safe side. :cwink:

They've already rebooted X-Men it's called DOFP. There is no other cannon in the X-Men verse outside of First Class and DOFP

I'm pretty sure cannons still exist in the X-verse. Surely the time travel didn't magic away every redneck with a passion for heavy artillery. :o

The canon thing is actually kinda strange with that. DoFP itself can't exist without the OT, so they did still happen. The film also uses actual footage from the pre-'73 stuff from Wolverine's films, so everything in those films before '73 kinda has to exist still in the new timeline.

There are many ways you can see it as the OT exist an alternate timeline like in Star Trek or they were erased like in Back to the Future. As far as the creative teams at Fox they are no longer beholden to any cannon outside of those movies.

Among all the other things seemingly wrong with this film, wouldn't it make more sense for Sue's power to be related to micro-black holes since they would affect her visibility due to light not being able to escape (thus rendering her invisible)?

So Sue is now a cold, closed off person. Why not a brilliant scientist as well as being kind, motherly and passionate? Nope, she is the cliche coldly independent woman who needs to open up.

No thanks.

They haven't said a single thing to indicate that? :'D They said she is a strong character who is really smart, nothing about her being cold or "closed off".

They did say that in this promo, and I hate it.

Ah my bad. That doesn't really fit the earlier descriptions, so i guess she starts off a little wary, but warms up during the movie.

That whole promo is really bad. It makes them all sound like a bunch of standoffish d***s with emotional problems.

But I'm sure when times get tough they'll all learn to work together and realize the team is greater than the sum of its parts.:whatever:

Yeah, I thought they were very weird.

Mmmm delicious, delicious crappy tropes.

She don't need no man until the totally adorkable perfect-for-her one comes along!

And little brother Johnny's probably going to give the protective brother speech at some point and the audience will laaaauuuugh and laaaauuuugh.

What effect does a bungee outfit have when you are warping the fabric of space itself? So stupid. Just say he stretches and be done with it.

Yeah, I think that's why the whole idea didn't really work. Otherwise, it's just some nonsense technobabble that isn't going to really affect the movie. Kinberg rightly admitted the whole thing didn't work and basically said "if it helps, he stretches, simple as that."

Yeah, the easiest way to think about Black Holes is they have the same pull as the star that preceded them just in a much smaller point. So Black Holes don't suck you in unless you think the Sun sucks you in.

I think you're confusing canon (one n, not two) with continuity. All the X-Men movies are canon in that they all comprise the official works of that universe. But the movies from Days of Future Past going forward are not in the same continuity as the ones previously.

Just in time for the sequel (where they're 100% sure to get it right!)

I believe it's called "character development". They usually describe what kind of person she starts out as in the bios, interviews and then you get to see her develop from that and grow in the film and it's sequel.

I loved it when Fox decided that Goku would start out as a high school student *****e and character development in the sequel would give us the actual Goku. That turned out well.
