When he HAS to promote it the interviewer will simply be told what questions to ask. That's not even me trying to take a potshot at the movie, that's actually incredibly commonplace. Look at the mess that happened when an interviewer asked RDJ a question he was told not to ask. That's actually fairly typical.

There is a difference between an actor not wanting to talk about his past drug problems and an actor being told not to talk about the movie he is supposed to be promoting.

FOX's approach this time around is to do everything just the opposite.

Fox's "approach" was to do everything cheap. Then the script didn't work, lots of stuff had to be redone, and the cloud based SFX had to call in an assist from an actual effects team. Now their approach is to put lipstick on a pig and hope audiences get fooled into thinking it's a hot date. :o

It was just a recent example. I can assure you, though, interviews about the actual film are very restrictive when it's not such a great film. That's why you hear actors tell horror stories about their crap movies years later.

The collider interview makes me wonder. They admitted they couldn't talk about film details. Could this be because it is too early to reveal details or is it because the the studio may be changing major plot points?

With major superhero reboots, they should just skip the origin story or streamline it. I don't need an hour of their background as normal people struggling to make their big breakthrough.

Amazing Spider-Man was the worst for this. Who doesn't know his story? Who hasn't seen it in the Toby McGuire movie? I think it is the same for fantastic four, but with the younger cast, they do need an explanation. I'd just prefer it done quickly.

I don't think this is the entire reason, but I'd wager half my bank account that this exact thing happened. More than the reported additional filming took place,
the budget shot up to over twenty million dollars higher than initially reported (which, interestingly, perfectly meshes with the Bleeding Cool report that execs hated the film and ordered millions be spent to fix it), Simon Kinberg is now billed as the writer whenever the film is talked about (better luck on Death Note, Jeremy Slater?), and we've heard that actual superhero costumes may have been added. They've definitely been making some changes.

Every day this film reminds more, and more of Bay's TMNT. The similarities are incredible.

>Troubles in pre-production with multiple rewrites, filming delays, and a slashed budget.

>A release date that's been pushed back multiple times.

>A director that's rumored to be an absolute nightmare.

>The studio doing reshoots to address fan complaints, and fix what never should have shot to begin with.

>Spaced out trailer releases with one showing very little, and the second showing more but still not very much, and seemingly entirely tailored to address criticisms.

>The studio refusing to promote the film properly and being highly secretive, seemingly in an effort to hide the issues of the film, and cover for the fact that they're not sure what it 'll be come release day.

>Promises of an even better sequel.

By George I think you're right. This whole situation does sound like the TMNT debacle. Well I guess Fox should just be hoping that the film follows TMNT's box office performance as well.

I do believe FF has a much better director than TMNT though. And yes I'm saying that even though Trank has only directed one film. I've seen enough of Jonathan Liebesman's work to know that he is a full on hack without a decent film to his name.

The first video, made me laugh...but Teller really comes off as an ass...

I think they are playing it off as funny, but he really comes off as a jerk.

Yeah, he is feel in' himself a little too much.

Yep. Been saying it for a while. Almost the exact same situation.

Movie's going to be a mess.

General audiences clearly didn't think the new TMNT was a "mess" given that it more than recouped its budget in BO returns, and I don't believe they'll see F4 as a "mess" either.

To be honest I think if you asked the GA who directed the TMNT they would probably guess at Michael Bay (since they remembered he had something to do with it).

I do not disagree with you. And I don't have a massive hate on Bay like I used to nor do I hate TMNT. I had a good time watching the film for nostalgic reasons, I just believe that it's a horrible film objectively.

Turtles didn't recoup its budget due to production quality. Even fans of the franchise (like myself) knew it was a stinker.

Turtles has a much larger fanbase than the FF, including a very popular Nickelodeon show and a huge presence in the toy aisles. Those expecting FFINO to have a Turtles type performance at the box office are kidding themselves.

Well I suppose if you're a big fan of TMNT and want FFINO to be similar in quality, the GA not thinking it was a big mess must be a major plus.

Zarex is right. TMNT has been given plenty of exposure over the past decade. And have a popular toon right now. Commercials all over the networks. Kids came out in droves to see it. Along with the nostalgia factor from older audiences.

In comparing this project to piece of art being painted by artist. Every brushstroke doesn't need to be perfect as long as its finished product entertains.

So if I reproduce the Mona Lisa, and instead of a brunette with straight hair, I paint a blonde with curly hair....it might be a beautiful piece of art, but it's not a reproduction of the Mona Lisa. So, even if I call it The Mona Lisa....it's not.

TMNT was directed by a director? For real? I thought it was put together by an MTV intern.

It'd be the Lona Misa.

Some people speculate that the Mona Lisa ain't even the Mona Lisa, but someone else instead.

Well, that's kind of fitting for Reed.

Looking at the character posters I couldn't help but think - Who the hell is Ben going to be punching? Soldiers? Whereas Banner has a bunch of playmates in his weight class - Abomination, Thor, Hulkbuster Iron Man, Ultron, Loki and Widow (jk) - it's looking as though Ben is going from "underdog that refuses to give up" to "unbeatable powerhouse" in Trank's interpretation.

Kinda like how Toby Kebbell is said to be playing Dr. Doom, but clearly this masterpiece is starring Kebbell as Hobo Jim.
