Fant4stic Fant4stic: Reborn! - - - - Part 38

It's inspired from the Ultimate Marvel comics and one of the things that personally interest me, but it might be that they're pulling the same ending Ultimates 2 and Avengers the movie had where the team sets to do their own thing without the government's back up.

I don't think the ultimate influence will be that strong to be honest. Regardless the contention some have with Ultimate F4 is in part due to its departure in tone from the classic F4 that people here would much prefer to see. They could still have a government oversight issue in that kind of film, but it doesn't need to be in the vein of a X-men like secret team of mutants.

From Frosty at Collider.com:

"FYI, the Fantastic Four embargo lifts Wednesday, Aug. 5, 6pm PST

So two sources (and Collider is very reliable) have confirmed the embargo.

So maybe it will only be a little worse than Green Lantern bad instead of almost as crap as Catwoman bad.

So online reviews from Wednesday evening, printed press presumably from Thursday.

That is a change btw. Fox originally did have it set for Thursday 4pm. I would think the obvious stink coming from that move made them think a day earlier would help. The list made here of flicks pulling the 'late as possible' embargo stunt isn't the kind of company you wanna be be keeping.

The embargo is unusual but it's certainly no guarantee the movie is bad.

Pirahna 3D had an embargo. Reviews were favourable.

F4 could be bad but also couldn't.

Like I said it's strange. But understandable to an extent as I reckon this will be a "it has to be AMAZING otherwise it's terrible" kind of reception with little middle ground so 50-79% would be considered a dud by the online community following this. So even if the RT score is okay that won't be good enough and it'll be raked across the coals.

Only way for this movie not to be hated (online) would be an 80%+ RT score imo

Haven't seen Piranha 3D (I remember the original. lol), but from what I've heard about it I don't think that's great company for a F4 film.

You know it's bad if comparisons to a movie called 'Piranha 3D' has become your best defense.

Didn't compare them at all, I cited an example of an embargo not being a death sentence. Guess that went right over you're head.

It was a decent B-Movie styled monster flick.

Point being that something that seems to be enjoyed ironically doesn't inspire confidence.

That not the point at all.

The point is that a movie people thought would be savaged by critics because of an embargo wasn't.

I'm not saying F4 will be great just that embargo doesn't mean it's definitely gonna be reviewed unfavourably

So according to this website, they have free advance screenings in Atlanta, Chicago, Los Angeles and New York and they are all sold out. Screening is on Tuesday, August 4th after 7 PM.

I will be expecting people tweeting about it.

Wouldn't be surprised if Fox allowed people to tweet reactions (if it goes well), just not full on reviews.

Yeah, I don't really read reviews anyway. I prefer people's one liner reactions on twitter. Suits me. Let's see how it goes.

If a good portion of those tweets are positive then I will go check it out because I am usually on the positive side of things.

A lot of times thats what happens even when an embargo is in place. They (critics) cant get specific, but they can say whether they liked it or not.

They're counting on it. There will be two kinds of people at the advance screenings - rabid fans who would never say a bad thing about the film and critics who will likely have nothing but bad things to say.

So the critics will be muzzled while the fans tweet about how great it was.

Not necessarily. People love free stuff and people love exclusivity. So a free exclusive early screening of a movie will draw in a diverse crowd.

Maybe. If somebody offered me free tickets, I'd pass.
