i've been following this film since it started filming back in may and i supported it every step of the way because i thought josh was saying the right things and i really thought alot of the cast they picked for this film. i'm still very shocked at how bad the results are for this production, but i know alot of people on this forum aren't shocked at all. i was originally going to go see it and give my thoughts but after that trank tweet i decided i wasn't going to support it anymore.

anyway, this has been an interesting forum to post in for the past year or so. i truly hope that the hardcore fans of the fantastic four property get the film they want and deserve after Fox has dropped the ball repeatedly.

Honest post.

The movie wasn't that great but does it really deserve this much of a beating?!

This was one of the most bizarre and screwed up productions in recent memory. The end result was a crap film. It doesn't just deserve what it's getting. It deserves much worse.

Elaborate.

It really was Fantastic Four In Name Only. Trank, the studio, and everyone involved showed they didn't care for the history of the characters. It's one thing to interpret it in a different way, but the mood, relationships, and tone of the story did not resemble the comics in any way whatsoever. The Tim Story movies were more respectful, and they were horrible.

Elaborate.

I have not seen the actual finished movie....but I have read bout 100 reviews, seen many still photographs from the production, and watched trailers and scenes released by FOX from the movie. So, in my opinion, this movie deserves a heaping helping of bad talk about it....because it basicly has tried to destroy the reputation of a beloved comic book.

This movie changed....

the ages of all the principal characters,

it changes the race of one of them,

it changes the family dynamics of the group,

it changes the history of the characters before they gain the powers,

it changed how they got their powers,

it changed who went on the mission that gives them their powers,

it changes the style and color of the uniforms they are known for wearing,

it changes Reed into the second or third smartest person in the room,

it changes Ben into a government sanctioned killer,

it changes the back history of the main villain,

it changes the look of the main villain,

it changes the main villain by giving him psychic powers....

I could probably go on....but the point should be obvious.....this production took everything that is known about the Fantastic Four and tried to change it to something else.

Well.....I was gonna check this out on Redbox at the very least. Now I don't even think I will see it there. HBO maybe?

Elaborate.

This is what they did to arguably Marvel's best super villain

What he's supposed to look like

DAAAAMMMMNNNN!!!
Tell us how you REALLY feel BoxOfficeProphets!

The box office has a disease this weekend. That sickness is Fantastic Four, the Fox property that cost $122 million to make, was bumped from its original release date and had rumored re-shoots. It also was saddled with director who couldn’t keep his mouth shut and his twitter posts neutral. Moviegoers were aware of the disease at movie theaters and stayed away en masse. Newcomer Ricki and the Flash with Meryl Streep caught the disease, as did the Shaun the Sheep, which must have been infected with mad sheep disease.

Just wanted to say that Doom doesn't really want to be ruler of Latveria at all like in the comics. Instead, he wants to be ruler of Planet Zero and just simply wants to get back home there. He no longer considers earth his home. It's completely lame. He's Monarch of Zero. Of Nothing!

And there is no way that this film is better than either of the Story movies. Kids would be bored out of their brains in the first act, and would find the 3rd act completely lacking compared to films of today. Oh wait, it is a film of today.

I'm surprised there are this many die hard Fantastic fans out there. Where were all of you when the comic books got cancelled and the series as a whole was withering away in irrelevancy?

You want your classic Fantastic 4 movie based off the 60's comic? Watch the story films. This movie was clearly trying to reinvigorate a property that desperately needed it. Enough said, they didn't move away from the entire source material they just moved away from a dated series from the 60's and went with the Ultimate series. Reed, Grimm, and Johnny's characterization were pulled straight from that.

The biggest let down, outside of last 30 minutes of the movie, was definitely Dr. Doom. But yet again, if we are looking at the Ultimate series as the source material it's also a drastic change to what you guys are used to. In the Ultimate series Doom's body has been consumed by metal and has hooves.. yes hooves.

I would have loved to see the sorcerer aspect of the character, but we have yet to see that in any major comic book property from Marvel or DC. That is until Doctor Strange comes along in the near future. The lack of Latveria also bugged me but again it's nothing major here. And could have been touched upon in a sequel. Again Dr. Doom himself has gone through changes in the comics.

So to say they strayed so far off the comics is misleading, and just ignorant. They took bits and pieces from the Ultimates, heck even their space suits were inspired by the Future Foundation suits. You guys seem to prefer the classic comic books, which is fine and all. And you have the Story films for that. But they clearly went another way with this particular movie.

Well they definitely reinvigorated it alright. :o

I also get the feeling that Fox felt Tranks vision for this franchise wouldn't mesh well with what they were doing with the X-Men, Gambit and Deadpool films. They are all supposed to be in the same universe yet the film, if the studio let Trank complete the film all the way thru, wouldn't have fit tonally with the others. This definitely felt like a movie that was meant to stand on its own and be its own thing. The last 30 minutes or so is where we see Fox trying to make it into something that would fit better in the cinematic universe it's been building. Unfortunately that just didn't work. I'd say if they still stick to a sequel in 2017 for this they have the F4 already matured and grown, and have in properly written to fit into that universe. Retcon what happened to Doom here. And make him a big bad for the Fox cinematic universe. And introduce magic! That would be so fun! Get someone who is passion about Fantastic 4 and someone who is passionate about this property to satisfy all types of Fantastic 4 fans.

Such great characterization like cold and likes music, smart and wants fame, hothead (pun unintended) and...umm...Reed's friend? I really have nothing for Ben. He got bullied by his brother and that's all there is to him.

There will be no sequel to this piece of filth.
