It was. It's a concern that I have long had about the franchise. We've had a few Hispanic women: Jordana Brewster (who is half Brazilian), Eva Mendes and Michelle Rodriguez. We also have an Afrikaner (White South African) in Charlize Theron and an Isreali in Gal Gadot. The fact that the franchise has only had one black woman in a significant role and no Asian women after 9 movies is surprising to me. We have seen Sung Kang, Rick Yune, Tony Jaa and Joe Taslim in the films, with Kang appearing in multiple movies. Devon Aoki was in the second one and her character has not been back since, even though they brought back Ludacris and Tyrese in future installments. It took 7 movies to bring in a black actress in Nathalie Emmanuel. I am not expecting a big role from Cardi B and in fact, I would not be surprised if she played herself.

So... this comes out in 5 months and there is no poster, no teaser trailer, no news... nothing.

I haven't followed closely its production - were there any problems so that there is currently no marketing for it?

I mean, NTTD comes out in April and has trailer, Black Widow comes out in May and has a trailer, WW1984 comes out in June and its trailer is released today, Tenet is released in July and will have its trailer released any time now... Why is there nothing for FF9 (considering how big the FF franchise currently is)?

Frankly, does it even need a lot of marketing? All they could do is release a poster with the logo and people would probably go see it.

I said this in another thread, people need to stop worry so much about marketing. Especially with a juggernaut franchise like this.

The last FF movie trailer dropped in December for an April release. And as @terry78 says, it's not like this needs a huge amount of marketing anyway. The teaser posters are usually not even that crazy

EDIT: And I just saw this comes out late May, not even April like some of the previous installments. They're fine.

EDIT 2: I see now that Brian O Connor is coming back for a little bit...not sure how I feel about that. Especially after that great send off at the end of Furious 7.

Well in terms of a trailer release, probably before Christmas. They should play it ahead of Jumanji, just to piss off The Rock.
