You're not. I'm not a Spidey fan and have barely ever read his comics yet due to the interconnected nature of Marvel even I was aware of that panel and connected the dots to it as soon as it happened in the movie.

Missed that. People have just been discussing "how long it's taken" to get a rubble-lifting scene and I wanted to make sure we all realized it was done over a decade ago.

I guess they meant a "worthy" rubble lifting scene. :gngl:

That was a straight homage, whereas here the scene was ripped right outta the books. Probably why most people werent connecting the two.

Yeah, I honestly dunno if that scene was even an intentional homage. It was just Spidey catching a falling wall and pushing it back, while here it was a play-by-play recreation.

If TASM2 was an improvement from TASM then TASM would've been viewed much more favorably.

What are you basing this theory on? Captain America TFA is not regarded as one of the MCU greats just because TWS is awesome. If Thor Raganork is great, TDW isn't going to be held in higher esteem.

Mostly everyone bailed on the series after TASM2.

Rightfully so. It was an all time low for the franchise. Even Sony don't stand by those movies.

If SM2 with Peter catching the wall was supposed to be a homage, I didn't get that, at all.

I really liked Stone and Garfield. Liked both costumes and REALLY liked Garfield's Spider-Man. All the hate in the world won't make me change my opinion on that.

.

It helps when your follow up is really good.

Though it doesn't really work as well when the whole trilogy sucks except the last one.

But the fact that WS and CW are top notch movie helps fans elevate the first movie.

Bragging rights are on the line so suddenly a 7 becomes an 8.

So many great ones that folks have mentioned but the defining scene for me was the rubble scene. It was reminiscent of the "he's just a kid" scene in SM2 and that one still makes me teary eyed. But this one is more impressive because it's all on Tom to create such a compelling moment and he delivered. There are quite a few moments in this movie, though, that reminds the audience that despite Peter having super powers, he is still just a kid and it was all in actions...no dialogue needed. That's one of the aspects of this movie that now makes it superior to every spidey film that came before, imo.

The Toomes reveal and subsequent car ride with him and Peter. Such a well done twist; an honest surprise that feels obvious in hindsight. Holland plays the nerves of the scene in a way that's both awkwardly funny and really unsettling, and Keaton brings the menace. Watching him slowly catch on to who Peter is was so tense.

I agree! That realization was done very organically, I think.

Liz's hints weren't so vague that it seemed like Adrian's growing awareness was a stretch.

And yet her hints weren't so obvious either, so it built the tension there for a short while as we were figuring out if Toomes knew or not.

I never really dug that bit from SM2 mainly because he's clearly not a kid. He's a ****ing 30 year old man.

What really cements that scene for me is the subsequent walk to the dance afterward and how the audio works with it all. It really drives it home for me.

Ha! True. But it's the kind of scene that gets you lost in the moment, especially with all the buildup.

I went with the tomes reveal but I was including the car scene however I really liked the Glover and Burress stuff
The triumph in the rubble scene was amazing. My favorite moment in any spidey movie.
it was good but no where near the elevated train scene in in spider 2

Another factor in the car scene: Toomes was watching the road. That means for most of the conversation, he wasn't looking at Peter. . . only *hearing* him. And he had heard Spider-man's voice at least briefly in the two prior encounters.

I seem to remember toombs telling peter that he sounded familiar in the house before dismissing it

He says it in the car. Something like "have we met before? Your voice sounds very familiar". And then Liz tells him he's in the decathlon with her
