After seeing too many negative JMS threads, I want to put up a positive one, so I decided on a "favorite JMS moments" thread. Then I decided to make it even broader and just put it up for all writers who have bad raps.
I am personally mixed on JMS. I think he's a good writer, but doesn't have much respect for the work of other Spider-Man writers. I think he's also prone to too many events, but I have liked alot of his stuff.
The next two writers I put here... well, the less said the better! But they also have produced some entertaining yarns.
And then I included a couple more for the hell of it.
Favorite JMS moment/story: Peter's live speech in the news-room at the end of ASM#536 when he turns against the registration act. His speech is not only one of the best Spider-Man speeches ever, but great political commentary about the parallels to our own eroding freedoms. It gave me goosebumps. The coup-de-grace is when Iron-Man coldly says in the last splash "You heard the man. Bring him in."
Favorite Mackie story: TIE between Peter and Ben taking on the Sentinels during Onslaught... PETER: "Up for one last fight?" BEN: "Maybe moreso... now that you're with me." Great bonding and badass teamwork.
Even though Ben should have gone out in a more respectable fashion, Night of the Goblin is a really suspenseful and climatic conclusion to the clone-saga. Yes it brought back Norman and has its flaws, but that fight between Peter and Norman and the tragedy of Ben is epic.
Favorite Kavanaugh story: The compelling and unsolved FACADE mystery perplexes fanboys to this day. Besides "what happened to Baby May and Kaine?" I can't think of a single loose-thread or question in the Spidey mythos that's asked as much as "Who the hell was Facade?!"
Plus, he fried Lance Bannon so he automatically gets props for that.
Favorite Byrne story: ............. *cricket chirps*...... um... moving on... (I TRIED! I REALLY TRIED!)
Favorite Micheliene (or however you spell it) story: I LIKED him. But he seems to get a bad rap from alot of people so I thought I'd include him anyway. My favorite story of his is a tie between Spidey and Venom on the deserted Island and the first three-part Carnage arc (aka the only good Carnage story, besides *MAYBE* 'Web of Carnage' when Reilly got the symbiote).
Now what stories from your lest-favorite writers do you like?
