Trump, of course, now trying to claim he was 'kidding' (tone/inflection doesn't really sound like he's kidding to me)

and once again, mocking protesters

This pretty much sums up the GOP at this point, and why so much of our media sucks. Ball doesn't let him escape the question she is asking, keeps asking it and he turns into a mess.

And this is why I like her.

I think the issue is the idea that having a Republican around makes anything fair and balanced.

At this point I'm still surprised about the lack of pure crass political opportunism on the Republican side.

Throw out loyalty to country, rule of law and integrity. It is obvious they've already done that. Fine... But what about the opportunity for a person or group to seize this moment and set themselves upas a powerbase in the party by becoming the leader or leadership of the cobservative anti-Trumpers? Become the voice in the party against extremism. Be the new McCain. Make a play for the demographics that are the future.

This isn't rocket science. Trump, a two bit reality star has somehow cowed a whole bunch of incredibly rich and powerful people and yet the truth is he has no teeth. The GOP leadership is old, really old. Be the young guns and secure your own future and the future of the party.

No one remembers the guys in the back in 1776 that went "I don't like the high handed actions of the crown government either, but we should probably go along to get along, ya'know?"

Conservatives, even if out of pure power politics you have an opportunity to get past this moment in history and build something for the future. Take it! It's right there! This guy is polling at 40%. What the **** are you waiting for? Take a stand, blame this all on Mitch and Trump and you'll be able to move on inoculated from looking like you shielded a fool gangster administration from the rule of law.

Here here! Let's see a Republican up and comer stand up against Trump and fight to bring back ACTUAL conservatism to the party. The stuff the party practiced (or at least paid lip service to) back when I was a member (don't judge!).

Fiscal conservatism!
A balanced budget!
Free trade!
An aggressive immigration policy that welcomes the wretched refuse of your teeming shore!
A robust foreign policy, dedicated to enriching ties to our allies, spreading Democracy throughout the world and impeding the advance of Totalitarianism!

I certainly appreciate her repeatedly asking the question, but I wish she would have let this bumbling idiot know that quid pro quo is not what makes all of this illegal. It's illegal to solicit help from a foreign power to help someone win an election. End of story. This needs to be said to these morons every time they try say "no quid pro quo". Even though there clearly was a quid pro quo, it doesn't matter if there was. He broke the law the moment he asked Ukraine to investigate a political rival

If that's the kind of standard that we hold for the President of the United States, then there's no line to draw.

"I can't be fired because I'm too inept to realize that I ****ed up."

I would like them to drop quid pro quo. The more we see, the more it is extortion by a mob boss.

What have I been saying?

"We're not criminals/evil... We're jusr morons/inept."

That's not a defense. It's worse really. It's saying you're too stupid to be in charge. It's saying your judgement is highly flawed. It says you are easily manipulated. It says that the administration really is as piss poor and lacking intsllect as all its critics claim.
