Someone should fix that lame-ass thread title.
Very good first episode, no doubt some will complain about the slow burn quality "but but we barely see any walkers, it sucks, we know more than the characters do: it sucks"
It all works very well, that slow crescendo, three sequences stand out for me: the opening, the scene with Travis teaching at school, this had a nice feel to it and the last 10 minutes with Nick going to Calvin and what follows.
Dillane is a clear standout, I'm reading that he looks like a young Johnny Depp, and he totally does, I like his look, I like the body language, he really sells the drug-addled mind, that whole persona, and he's clearly smart and kind of subverts the expectations you might have for a junkie character.
Dickens & Curtis are selling it right away for me, I already like the main trio, the daughter, wait and see, same for Travis' kid.
The episode has a really nice pace to it imo and it feels so fresh, even the look is really nice, shot with anamorphic lenses (on the Alexa), so you get those nice anamorphic lens flares, slight distortion and it's a nice distinction compared to the super 16 on The Walking Dead.
Very excited to see the rest.
