Well this show is trying to do something different than the repetitive **** TWD has been doing for five seasons so that already makes it better imo. I like that we get to see society come apart at the seems, and I even like the cast and characters. Not sure that the premiere needed to be as long as it was, but the fast forward button helped fix that. Ill continue to tune in.

Was the pusher who got shot and zombified the daughters boy friend??

I thought this show was boring as hell. I'll give it a few episodes to make up my mind since it did just start. It didnt grab me at all though and was too slow

First episode sir. You don't come out blazing like the Punisher in the first episode. You come out calculating like Batman. The game is chess not checkers!

Isn't that girl's boyfriend Randy from The Wire?

Someone should fix that lame-ass thread title.

Very good first episode, no doubt some will complain about the slow burn quality "but but we barely see any walkers, it sucks, we know more than the characters do: it sucks"

It all works very well, that slow crescendo, three sequences stand out for me: the opening, the scene with Travis teaching at school, this had a nice feel to it and the last 10 minutes with Nick going to Calvin and what follows.

Dillane is a clear standout, I'm reading that he looks like a young Johnny Depp, and he totally does, I like his look, I like the body language, he really sells the drug-addled mind, that whole persona, and he's clearly smart and kind of subverts the expectations you might have for a junkie character.

Dickens & Curtis are selling it right away for me, I already like the main trio, the daughter, wait and see, same for Travis' kid.

The episode has a really nice pace to it imo and it feels so fresh, even the look is really nice, shot with anamorphic lenses (on the Alexa), so you get those nice anamorphic lens flares, slight distortion and it's a nice distinction compared to the super 16 on The Walking Dead.

Very excited to see the rest.

What people don't realize is that the virus is just starting. Notice you see a zombie here and there. The more the episode went on, you see helicopters and police. I don't even think the story made the news yet. You saw clips of it online but as far as the local news, they have reported it yet. It's building up to a point where it's being suppressed by the media until it reaches that point where it can't. No one knows what's going on until it's to late.

Pretty much, the collapse of society is going to be the most interesting thing to see.

To be fair, that first episode was an hour, and the second one is supposed to be pretty long too, first season of TWD was that short too, but I think here, it's going to work for the pacing of the show.

I could have sworn that episode was 90 minutes.

Curious about the kid in the school with the knife. Maybe he's lost some family members in this.

I wasn't captivated . I know it's supposed to be slow burn for a reason and generally I do like slow burn. That being said it basically picked up towards the end and I don't see it slowing down again anytime soon.

For those complaining it was too slow, you're aware it's the first episode and this takes place before the breakout etc right? I mean the breakout is literally just spreading and happening to the west coast we are watching it all unfold from the beginning.

I dunno I just don't see how some can complain about the slow burn, that's exactly what the first episode of a series about the beginning of the breakout would be. Now it will pick up more each episode obviously as the collapse begins.

Agreed. My gawd! If they just jumped into the middle of the virus, people will complain it felt rush.

It didn't feel slow to me at all. I was like, it's over already? Darn.... :p

Yeah, really. I'm glad it started off as normal day and gradually increased the apocalyptic atmosphere with sirens and helicopters because I love that stuff. I don't know what people expected when Kirkman said from the beginning it would take place before the original series.

While watching Fear the Walking Dead, did anyone else wonder what the characters from the other show were doing at this point in their lives? I caught myself doing that a few times.

I've read it says it's 90 min, but that's probably with the ads. Watching it on VOD (without commercials), it says it's 60 min.

Yeah that's how it goes...an hour is actually 42 minutes in TV land. An hour and a half is 60 minutes. Every thing else is commercials. Hate it.

Other than being a cash grab I still don't see the point of doing a prequel to TWD and showing how the zombie apocalypse/outbreak began. That's a plotline I never cared to explore. And I can fill in the blanks myself. However I still gave the pilot a chance out of curiousity. Eh I wasn't impressed with it. And didn't think it needed to be 90 minutes either. But I'm still giving the whole season a chance before I decide to jump ship or not on season 2.
