I agree, my GF showed it in her class during their testing week. The HS age kids loved it. From what I'm hearing her kids this year are asking for that movie this time around as well. I think she's hoping POTC 2 will be out by then. Johnny Depp :whatever:

FF was an entertaining and fun film IMO. I actually enjoyed it more than Superman Returns, even though I'm more of a DC guy.

One thing that kind of annoyed me though was Dr. Doom's voice - I expected like a heavy, metallic, crude kind of voice - like Jigsaw's voice in the Saw films instead of McMahon using his normal voice with minor modification. However with the way it ended I'm thinking the voice will change in the next film.

Cool film..not the greatest, but definately enjoyable.

I highly doubt that. Sure, kids could enjoy FF. But kids enjoy crap because that's what we give it to them. Stan and Jack's origional point is that if you give a kid something that's actually well written and inteligent, they'll still enjoy it and, down the road, be much better off for it. Give them stupid crap, then you shouldn't be surprised if they grow up stupid.

Yeah, but the original FF comics were simple and fun comics for kids. They were also kinda silly. I personally think if they had stuck to the comics verbatim, the movie would have been pure silly camp. It would have sucked.
I think they struck a great balance with the first movie, keeping it kid-friendly in the vein of the original comics, yet adding some adult themes and eliminating the real cheezy stuff.
I have high hopes for the new movie. I think it's going to feel bigger and now that the actors, directors, etc. are comfortable with each other, flow better. Also, WETA does great special effects, which are one of the cornerstones of a movie like this.
All that said, I and everyone else I know who saw the movie liked it. I enjoy the FF comics, but in many ways.... I think the movie was better. :yay:

I'm not sure where the poster "The Question" went, haven't seen much from that SN around here, but if I were a kid I would find that statement extremely rude. We probably don't give our kids the credit they deserve. Maybe thats where THE PROBLEM IS. Not that the kids enjoy crap. Kids enjoy in the same manner we do, they like what they like, pure and simple. Every kid I know loved both Spiderman movies, loved the last hour of Batman Begins, disliked Elektra emmensly (I just had no clue what the heck was going on in the movie), loved the desert scenes in The Hulk, and loved Fantastic Four and wanted more. There problem was not with what the saw in the Fantastic Four, the problem was they wanted more time with them.

Maybe Fox needs to realize the same thing as "The Question", kids are smarter and can handle more than we think they can.

I think WETA will give Fantastic Four:Rise of The Silver Surfer the classy FX it deserves!

I think you misunderstood what The Question was saying.

The point was exactly what you said; that kids can like and even stuff like Batman Begins and Spider-Man 2, and when they grow up, still like them because they're actually quality movies.

Yeah, kids'll enjoy a lot more than adults do (when I was 7, I had no problem with, say, Batman Forever or some crap like that:o), but that's no excuse to give them movies that they'll hate later on in life.

Fantastic Four isnt my favourite comic adaption, xmen is, but in terms of other comic adaptions i think it did well. A lot of critics compared it too much to spiderman so the movie would appear bad, but personally i thought it was entertaining. Of course it cannot please everyone, But this movie was supposed to be silly and fun and thats what i think it is.

If you were expecting silly and fun you were not disappointed but I didn't want to see one of my favourite teams dealt with in a 'silly and fun' way. I think they are better than that.

Gritty, dark heroes are fine, but there’s nothing wrong with a little fun every now and then. Look no further than the success of the Fantastic Four for proof. Tim Story’s fun, brightly colored, cartoony superhero movie opened to a critical crushing and received nothing but a kick to the curb by press and pundits alike. Oh it’s not cool to like Fantastic Four, but audiences turned up anyway and had one helluva time.

Look, there’s room for both types of movies in the world. The anti-hero has been done to death, let’s give lighthearted fantasy a chance. Audiences are hungry for it; it’s time critics, nerds, and the rest caught up. They’ll get a chance when the Four returns for Rise of the Silver Surfer.

Always a good idea to give credit where credit is due:
