Finland to become first country to stop teaching subjects in school

As long as they still teach the fish-slapping dance, then I'm on board.

Haven't heard about this. Here in some primary schools they don't give grades anymore.

A future Finnish teacher here. (Already Finnish, a teacher hopefully three years from now.)

The article is overstating things. We just got new plans for teaching in basic education (2014) and upper secondary schools (2015), which will probably stay in effect for a decade or so. Syllabus is still divided to distinct subjects like Math and History in them.

But it is true that we are increasing constructivist teaching heavily. One form of that is indeed "phenomena based learning", but it's going to take at least a while before that is the norm.

And sorry for the Finnish inside joke: Torilla tavataan! :D

Tell me about it. :o

We are such a small and forgotten nation that just about every time Finland is mentioned we get excited and shout "Torilla tavataan", which pretty much means "let's gather to the marketplace!"

It starts getting funny when it can be expected. ;)

So you're teaching kids about the glory of the God Emperor? :o

I'm sorry, that one flew totally over my head. Please explain. :)

Norway is the red headed stepchild.
