Firefly's Fillion Moves into Castle

It thought the ep was entertaining but it did feel like an Elseworlds story given the huge hole it put in Espo's back story.

lol, that hole is massive. We've known these characters for 8+ yrs. Ryan & Espo seemed to be partners for awhile the 1st episode. But somehow we're to believe 9yrs ago Espo fell in love, got engaged, and arrested a woman and absolutely no one in his personal or professional life knew about? smh

This past episode was really fun. Felt like classic Castle. Castle believing in something silly and Beckett & Co being the rational voice of reason.

Yup, it felt really like a good old Castle episode.

I guess them getting back has instantly made the episodes seem better.:yay:

Wrap it up, unless they really want to continue the show without the LEAD FEMALE character/actress for eight seasons who is as important as Castle to the show.

Yeah I cannot see that going over well. Nathan and Stana and their dynamic ARE the show and have been from day one (not that the others aren't cool, but those two are the centerpiece).

Also I see this maybe being like the Criminal Minds fiasco from a few years back. Where two prominent actors are essentially fired from the show to save money, and they're both female (but all of the male actors are kept on). Well, here we go again.

If they are continuing this, I think its more for the money than for the love of the show. I just don't see what good it would do for not bringing back Kate.... I mean, there was already 1 episode from this season that didn't have Stana and it was not good, I felt like someone was missing but for the whole season and possibly for the 1 final season? It doesn't feel right at all. Wrap it up ABC!

Plus if they kill her off (and Lonnie as well for that matter) then it feels like a slap in the face to both the character and fans.

And if they have her and Castle spit up, the it feels like they've wasted eight seasons of our time, because Hollywood writers apparently cannot grasp the simple idea that you can have people in an overall stable and committed marriage, and not having everything be 100% perfect all the time, it's doable.

Wait a second.....they don't want Beckett back? What the hell. She's such a strong great female lead.
As great as Castle is, Beckett is just as important if so more important then Castle.

I can't see the show working without her, I know this season hasn't been too good but if Beckett isn't in it I'll lose interest in the show.

They should just make a series finale with Beckett and Castle riding off in the sunset or something. Theyve been through so much stuff for the entire run of the show. Its better to go out on a high note and give the fans what they want instead of losing a main character, struggle through a 9th season, get bad ratings, and get cancelled.

As much as I like the Castle character, I dont think he can carry a show by himself. The dynamic between the 2 characters is just too good to get rid of one of them

My guess is that they'll try to give him another proverbial "straight character" to play off of, probably a woman.

I'll say it again it's been a tough two or three weeks for female characters on tv. I know show runners on different networks didn't all conspire together but it's a crazy string of events. This show can't wrap soon enough, I watched this show for Kate and Rick and if they aren't together I can't see how they carry on.

Supposedly, they didn't ask her back as both Fillion and Katic have grown to not like each other over the 8 seasons of filming. Which is why their interactions on the show have slowly diminished compared to the earlier seasons. Storylines separating them onto different paths/cases. Etc.

I was just clicking on the thread to say the last 2 eps have both been a lot of fun, the genie's lamp was a perfect fit for Castle and the espionage theme of this weeks was the best use of Hayley so far.

Having said that the Stana news is a deal breaker, the show cannot survive without her, Rick and Kate's chemistry IS the ****ing show, idiots. :down

It's been pretty noticeable this season.

No, it is Katic not wanting to come back. She almost didn't this season so it was pretty much a guarantee she would not come back again seeing as she only has a one year contract which is up at the end of the season.

Lanie on the other hand, I assume she similarly has decided to move onto other projects. She's not nearly as frequently on the show as she used to be and I don't doubt that has affected her.

HAvent watched religiously since season 3. IMO cancel the show. I think 99% of shows that try to continue after their lead character leaves fail.

I know Castle is the title character but his interactions and relationship with Beckett are key.

Is it true that Fillion and Katic didn't get along behind the scenes in the later seasons? Read that on some site that reported the news of Katic leaving.

No point without either Castle or Beckett. Oh well. I will enjoy the rest of the season and enjoy my reruns.

That one episode this season without Beckett was dull. I think just watching Nathan Fillion by himself is dull, and he just comes off as a buffoon. I don't really care for the separate storylines or about Castle himself. It's them as a couple I care more about.

That said, when there have been episodes which were Castle-lite and Beckett featured far more, the show still held up. So IMO, I think Beckett is actually more integral to the show than Castle, even though the show is named after him. Or rather Stana Katic is more engaging as a lead than Fillion.

I agree with everyone that they should just call it quits and wrap it up. They should've done so already last season. That had the perfect ending. Everything this season has felt dragged out, so they really want another year of that which would feel even more the case, and to go out on a really low note? If people hadn't already thought the show had jumped the shark this season, they will next season if there's no Beckett.

So what happens in season 9 since it's been renewed, will it be Castle with more Ryan and Espo? Or more Alexis? Or even more of that british chick?

Has it actually been renewed? Or are they just saying Stana won't come back if it does get renewed?

I think their ratings will tumble drastically, so they might as well not even go there and end it this season. People already didn't like Castle and Beckett split up this season, so they'd do a full one like that next year where there's no possibility of Beckett reuniting?

It's like kicking Abbie off of Sleepy Hallow or Liz off of The Blacklist Their dynamic with the male leads are key, the shows don't really work without it. And why is it always the female lead who gets the axe

The show hasnt been renewed right? i dont think i have heard anything about it.

Do they really think that the show can survive even a short season without the female lead?
Some of Castles worst episodes are the ones where Beckett isnt in, the whole show worked because of the two lead characters...otherwise the show was pretty pale.

Like I said in the Cancelled shows thread...

Based on this:

I hear the decision for Katic not to return was made by ABC and ABC Studios. Both Fillion and Katic last spring inked one-year contracts, which are up at the end of the current eighth season. While the studio started making overtures to Fillion for a new deal months ago and has been in on- and off- talks with him since the beginning of the year, I hear Katic was never approached to re-up her contract and was not offered an opportunity to continue on the show. Instead, I hear she, as well as Jones, were informed late last week that for budgetary reasons, they won’t be asked to come back for Season 9.

It wasnt her choice. They basically fired her.
