I was talking to a general audience member from my forum yesterday about all this mess and he said ''So they're pulling the reverse of what they did with Sue then? Because when I watched the last two movies I said ''Oh the Storm's must've adopted their first child."

And he generally likes those movies. So I think people just are making a god damn mountain out of an ant hill about this race and possible adoption issue.

On the HYPE?!?! I could never imagine such a thing...

Yeah, I'm sure that would be fine. Fans would still be pissed I think, but I'd def consider that related. I just don't want the Brother Sister thing dropped. It's essential. Gonna kind of go back to my first post on that matter and just question if changing the canon is for the better or not necessary. I don't really see what they gain from the whole thing. I think studios can change alot of things and still make a solid film, but sometimes I don't understand why they feel they need to when the source works fine. In FF's case I just want a better movie thats recognizable. I havn't liked Fox's previous changes and taking away relationships especially in the X-films have pissed me off. Even in FC which I like alot. It's tough to have faith in the studio when they have done more wrong then right and have shown zero love for fans.

I'd be against having the brother sister thing dropped to. That would be an unnecessary action to do.

As I said, some fans will do their usual "I HATE THIS CASTING" and Jordan will knock it out the park only for other fans to say "I knew he would be great the whole time".

Yepppppp.

Happppenns alllll the timmmmmeeeeee. :cwink:
Next time you'll tell me there are people who believe that a lack of brunette hair is somehow detrimental to Lois Lane's character AND their enjoyment of the next Superman film... :o

Kind of like every single Batman casting that Christopher Nolan did.

Yep. And being nearly 40 makes Amy Adams old as the Crypt Keeper.

Oh, and Anne Hathaway really needs to lose about 30 pounds to be Catwoman.

All the while, those same people that have a problem with a male character being on the younger end of a 9 year age-gap don't make a peep about Jennifer Lawrence playing the love interest to guys 15+ years older than her.

There's something strange about Jennifer Lawrence that seems to make her exempt from literally everything. I don't know what it is.

I love her too, but god knows she could probably kick a herd of puppies tomorrow and everyone would still be all ''OH MY GOD SHE'S SO ADORABLE AND GOOFY. SHE WON AN OSCAR!" :o

This!!! LMAO

I think it is unwise to assume that because some fans supposedly thought certain cast picks would not work in the past and then they did work out - that somehow means whoever is picked now for any given part will turn out perfectly.

None of us have crystal balls.

I've only ever seen him on Shameless and he's a good actor.

But I just can't see Johnny in him. And very seldomly do I set out to cast favorite comic book characters because we end up with situations like this where things aren't "ideal" by ''standards" (Saw this on another site. Still wrapping my head around what that means.)

This is why I purposely stay out of casting rumor threads for the most part, but for some reason I told myself to check this one out.

I shouldn't have.

Why can't you see Johnny in him? He's a solid actor who shouldn't have a problem pulling off the role.

I'm neutral on the whole MBJ casting. I don't think he is the best or worse choice. I think an entertaining actor in the role will win over audiences regardless. I was speaking specifically over making Sue and Johnny not related. I'd prefer Sue be Black if they cast MBJ. Even if Johnny's adopted that's gonna get backlash regardless if it works or not, cause people like to ***** about these things even down to hair color. Fox is not gonna win fans over doing this regardless if it works. Is it worth changing whats been canon for years and are they gaining anything because of it?

- no -

Noel is a terrible choice as Johnny storm all the roles I've seen him in since the Riches has been some off center shady character which he does well. Johnny Storm should be charismatic soon as he enters a scene he should draw everybody eyes to him this is not Noel.

He's done alot of drama's as well as being the voice of Toad in X-Men Evolution and will soon be a Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtle which shows he has range so I doubt he would have much trouble playing Johnny Storm.

You have blindfolds on if you believe Noel Fisher could be Johnny Storm. There is no way he could pull that off convincly. His voice is whiny, his facial expressions he often puts on this confused look would be wrong for Johnny. If you wanted Johnny storm to smoke pot, do some speed or meth and Sue had to put him in rehab often then yeah he's perfect.

Once again, and no one has answered this anywhere. Will anything be lost in translation if Jordan is cast? Will anything suffer? Will there be a significant difference in the source material if Jordan's cast other than his skin tone?

My guess is the reason why no one could answer it is because there won't be a difference. I'm pretty sure there wasn't negative buzz over Kingpin, nor negative buzz over Nick Fury and there won't be negative buzz for Jordan.

Let me answer it. What will be lost is the same thing that would be lost if they had them wear bright yellow and green costumes, if Ben was gay, if Sue was fat, if Reed was played by a 5 foot 2 inch tall actor. Does it necessarily change their character? No. But at what point do any of these changes cause this to no longer be the Fantastic Four? Do any one of these changes make it so? To some people, any single one of those changes would.

Bottom line is there are people on here to whom seeing as literal a translation of the FF to the screen as is possible within the context of being sensible (I'm sure we don't literally want Stan's dated dialogue in the movie!) is the most important thing. To others, their own social agenda is more important than the literal translation. It comes down to a personal preference. One is not more right or wrong than another.

Even the answer to the question of 'at what point do these changes cause this to cease being the FF?' is a personal matter. For some, changing the race of any of the characters wouldn't cause it NOT to be the FF but changing their uniforms drastically would. Or making Ben gay would not but having Sue played by an overweight actress would. All of these changes could actually be done and not change the core of who the characters are but as has been pointed out, comics are a visual medium and most on here who have been comic fans for a long enough time probably looked at the pictures before they could even read very well or understand some of the more complex elements going on in the stories they were looking at pictures of. Changing a character from black to white or vice versa is as big a visual change as having Reed be short and fat or having them all wear day-glow orange unis.

The choice is obviously up to the director and the studio. The response will no doubt be viewed as determining if it was the right choice or not. So let the decision be made and let the chips fall where they may.

Or maybe he just has an opinion different from yours...that happens quite often around here.

I will gladly watch a Japanese Superman and North Korean Lois Lane meet halfway through a galaxy trip near the planet Oar and be colleagues in a spacial Daily Star that is actually a star full of Ukranian and Mexican staff members, plus various aliens

I won't watch the next Superman reboot if this doesn't happen :o

This is Noel Fisher all him and Johnny Storm have in common is blond hair and white skin. IF that is the most important factor to you for Johnnny Storm then sure

As far as I remember, I have only seen this guy is one thing (The Hatfields and McCoys miniseries)....and while he did a decent job of acting in that, I can't say how far his range goes into other directions. So....how many different roles have you seen him play? Have you seen him try and play a character like Johnny and not be able to do it? If you are referring to only his acting ability (not how much he looks like the drawn character) why bother showing a picture of him? Is it that he isn't the most handsome actor out there? If so...why does an actor's looks have to do with judging his acting abilities?

Well said! Though a few of the posters on this thread apparently have a George Costanza-like ability to not see race, the rest of us bring our own personal prejudices regarding hair, weight, height, age and yes, pigmenntation in regards to our casting preferences. I loved Idris Elba's Heimdall, thought Michael Clark Duncan was the perfect Kingpin, and believe that Marvel made the exact right casting choice when they put Samuel L. Jackson into the Iron Man post credit scene. But in this particular instance, I think Johnny Storm should have an appearance consistent with how he has been portrayed since 1961 -1939 if you include the similar looking Jim Hammond (and I do).

I've seen him in the Riches,Law and Order SVU, Shameless, Battle for Los Angeles, Bones, the Mentalist he does a lot of TV work so I'm very familiar with his work is basically what I'm saying.

Have you seen him try and play a character like Johnny and not be able to do it?

can't say that but I've seen him as a con man which is similar but i never felt like he pulled that aspect off well.

How handsome he is, is not my issue like I said in one of my previous post his facial expression which are part of acting are wrong for this part. Some of his natural expression like the one pictured is not how I would picture Johnny storm smiling. I've never seen him put on that charismatic smile that I would picture a childish fun loving playboy of a guy like Johnny Storm put on. Even in his day on the Riches when he played a con man it was never there the little brother aspect I'm sure he could do well.

I'll have to go back and rewatch BATTLE FOR LOS ANGELES, didn't remember him in it.

Like I said, I only remember him giving a performance in Hatfields and McCoys, and the character he played was a slightly mentally impared quiet/shy guy...so I haven't had a chance to see if he can play a Johnny Storm like character.

I personally wouldn't pick him to play Johnny in a movie. I do tend to cast with the actor looking like the comic drawn character...and to me he doesn't have the look (judging from the one show I saw him act in and from the photos posted in this thread).

And again, that is all opinion...all subjective. When someone else has an opinion different from yours, it doesn't make you right or wrong, or them right or wrong. It is simply a difference of opinion. As I stated before, I will take the time to watch some of his work, and give my opinion on his work. We may agree, we may disagree...but doesn't mean we are right as in factual proof, simply means we may have different opinions on his acting.
