For the 7 of us who know Van Halen...

Has Mike said anything about it? He could have been looking to retire anyway?

Makes at least 11 in the thread too. I was a HUGE VH fan!

Mike has been touring with Sammy the last I heard.

This is going to end badly, somehow. I just know it. Van Halen hasn't done anything relevant in YEARS, anyway. They've just been milking their fame from the 80's this whole time.

I know. I mean, I'll admit, they've all gotten more talented over the years, but the fact remains that they lost a powerhouse of charisma with Dave, and a huge piece of foundation with Mike. I'd say I'm going to wait for the band to split, but since it's all family, I'm pretty sure they'd just get rid of Dave and Eddie would just end up getting Valerie or something to sing.

VanHagar wasn't BAD by any means. It wasn't Van Halen, but for what it was, it was the best it could be.

GARY CHERONE
"It feels so right with him. We're like family already!"

Dude, when Eddie went sober his brains dripped down his pant leg.
Also, I don't understand the love for Jump. Before we became enlightened and realized how offensive a thing it is to say, we would say that the synth intro to Jump is one of the "gayest" things ever, kind of like the intro to Sweet Child O' Mine, ...but of course we've since learned to choose better words 'cause that's against the rules.

Really cool bands remind me of classic Superhero teams, all the disparate personalities uniting, like Luke, Han, Leia, and Chewbacca.

THE awesome team is and was, the one that featured the thick wall of Michael Anthony.
He's like the fat guy in Gatchaman/G Force/Battle of the Planets!

I had the misfortune of seeing VanExtreme back in '98 with Kenny Wayne Shephard. I've seen cover bands do a better job with the stuff than Charone ever did. Between that, and Eddie throwing temper tantrums because he missed a note or two that, honestly, only musicians would have noticed anyway, it was crazy. Seriously, it was almost like being dragged to a Simple Plan concert by your bipsy girlfriend. But it was good bonding with me and my Dad, so it's all good.

I tried to listen to Van Cherone and it gave me bad goosebumps, it was so embarrassing that I couldn't listen for more than a few seconds...and I forced myself to watch "Queen" with Paul Rogers do like, 4 songs!

EVH needs to just give it up man . . . c'mon; if you havent hit bottom when your singer is the dude from Extreme, when DO you hit bottom and how much gottam further down do you really want to go!?!?

I've seen Kenny Wayne Shepard live before. I wanted to stab him. In his face. This was back when his second album had just come out. His rhythm guitarist's band opened up and they were AWESOME! Put on a great blues rock show and really got the crowd pumped. And then we waited for KWS. And waited. And waited. An hour and a half later, he walks out on stage with his band. They looked like they wanted to be anywhere but there. His playing was half-assed as I've ever seen a guitarist play and he seemed to be more concerned with standing in just the right place so the fan could make his hair blow behind him while he played his guitar (yes, he actually did this and for most of the show too), rather than trying to connect with the audience or even play the right friggin' notes. His band was laughable and they all seemed very concerned about trying to act and look like there were in an MTV video or something. The bass player's fuzzy faux white tiger shirt was horrid and the rest of the band was dressed in equally ridiculous garb. And, the new singer (he fired the one from the first album when he went to record the second....MISTAKE) was one of the most tone deaf people I've ever heard project their voice into a microphone. The drummer and bass player didn't even act like they were in the same room. It was horrifying and I was embarrassed for them. They played a brisk 35 minute set and then left with no encore. His opening act smoked him six ways to Sunday. I've never bought another KWS record in my life.

Heh, I remember that tale, the fan blowing his hair, lol.

I was just stunned when I saw that going on. It was truly a WTF? moment. Was was amazing was all the people talking about how they HATED Kenny Wayne Shepard after that crap as the exited the hall where the concert was at. LOL! People are supposed to like you MORE after you play live, not decide you're a sh1thead that they truly dislike even though they loved you when they entered the concert hall. LOL!

You're a stronger man than I.

This was 98, so we're talking "Blue on Black, Tears on a River, Love me because I'm opening for Van Halen". His playing wasn't AS bad as you're describing it, but it coulda definately used some help. Lucky his band wad doing a lot to cover up for him, but it really wasn't saving him.

The real sad thing about this whole oreal? I was 14 when I saw this concert, and I knew what the deal was.

Yep. That's right around the same time I saw KWS. Did he have his trusty fan with him on stage to keep his beautiful hair ever-flying gracefully behind him as if he were standing up against a strong wind and holding it back with his incredible guitar playing? :D

I think so, actually. But in his defense, it was August, and under those lights it gets REALLY hot.

Haha! This cracked me up! :D

Seen Sammy and Dave in concert together, seen Van Hagar, and seen VanExtreme. EVH is a nutcase, simple as that. The David Lee Roth era was definitely the best, but Hagar brought a lot to the table as well. 5150 was probably their best of the Sammy stuff. Forget Cherone.

I used to sell Eddie his porn when I worked at the porn shop. He'd bring me Strawberry Shortcake Icecreams and show me pictures of Wolfie

What kind of pr0n did Mr. Van Halen show a prediliction for, Dew?

In Queens defense they didn't have much of a choice.

Umm...they didn't have to hire Paul Rodgers as their singer, though. I love Paul Rodgers' voice, but not in Queen songs. He butchers them. Badly.

Yes, he does not butcher them with Chupacabra precision.
Maybe they should've got George Michael. It would be weird to see him Rock out.

I wasn't saying that they had no choice in hiring Paul Rodgers, I was saying they had no choice but to get a NEW singer.

You know, he's the only one I've ever heard sing a Queen song besides Annie Lennox (and of course Freddie) that made them sound really great to the point that even Freddie would have approved. I think he could have done a great job with it and Queen could kept moving forward with new material to boot. But, George was too busy being all high and gay in the park, I guess.

I'm glad I could help you clarify. :)

I read an interview where Brian May said that Paul Rogers was Freddie's favorite singer and I find that very hard to believe.

Anyway, back to what kind of porn Eddie Van Halen likes...and was he with Valerie at the time?
Perhaps it was porn that came between them.

They should have used porn to heal their marriage, not tear it apart. Poor Wolfgang. Now he's going to be subject to his dad's mad ramblings in that band; "No, no, no!!!!! You do NOT play that line on the E string at that tempo! God, I swear you're not my son sometimes!".
