Forum Decision: Should The Character Threads Stay Active?

The big problem with having an Off-Topic Thread was that it was ALWAYS the top thread on the forum. People got really annoyed with that because some felt it was being abused. And I have to agree--some posters rarely had anything to say in any of the other threads related to the film, but spent the majority of their time there. Considering this is an X3 Spoiler forum I had a hard time justifying it's existence here. Perhaps if the posting habits were a bit more balanced it could work...

I Understand and I agree. I've seen it -especially during my time at the other threads like them at the JC boards but I don't post in them anymore. it got boring and it was the same ol topic everytime I was there and the topics weren't interesting because the posters there would discuss stuff like Alcohol and drugs and sex...porn stuff like that. I don't like having to read stuff like that. they'd post... dirty pictures too which I don't like to see here (ashley hartman for example). Sometimes it scares me. I mean come on, this is an X-Men 3 Forum. If you've got good interesting pictures of Ashley, atleast post the ones of her with clothes on. -sighs- okay. sorry for the vent. but I had to say it. Keep the dirty piccies to yourselves. :p

o_O. Caliph, you are my buddy and all, but frankly what you just said was utter bull crap. Almost everyone that posts regularly in that off topic thread asides from Squeek, posts pretty darn regularly in threads on this forum and has an opinion on this film. And heck even she posts from time to time. So that just seems like some excuse to keep it out of here.

That off topic forum should be here, it'd cut down on the spam in the ''IMPORTANT" threads. It'd turn the tide just a bit on the negativity of this forum and it just should be here. PERIOD.

I said "some", not all. I didn't even say "most". People complained about it as that was the observation then, and I could see validity in their statements. And let's be truthful, you can't say that some weren't posting almost exclusively there and little elsewhere.

In fact, since it's been moved there are some members I haven't seen come back here.

That certainly has nothing to do with the removal of the off topic thread if you ask me. There are people who disappear from the Hype after only being here a few days.

Specter, Cook, Me, Jan, Kira, Squeek, Star, JP, Newwave, Tsunulia, ALL post in this part of the forum, and in the Off Topic forum as well. We are pretty much the only people keeping that thread alive nowadays.

Sure, more people would be added to the thread at the time of it being re-added here, but as long as they continued to post ELSEWHERE in the X3 forum. I don't see what the big deal is with it being around.

A few others have PMed me just recently about bringing it back...it's among the changes I want to consider making around here. The spammage is definitely a problem I need a solution for.

Hmm. Good deal. Just consider it man. I think you wouldn't regret it in the long haul.

Couldn't we just make a character thingy when you first click on x-men, like, where it says X-Men 3 Spoilers, X-Men 3 Non-Spoilers, X2, etc. Like under games there could be one just for character discussion stuff, idk?!?

huh?? someone explain it to me... i don't get it...:(

i chose option 2 because it would be a complete waste to delete a thread who managed to make a 50 + page, and doesnt that prove that the forumers were likely to share his/her opinions.

You option 1 people baffle me. Baffle me I say. You'd rather have a forum of moral uprest like IMDB? Than a forum of nicely collected discussion? Geez. :(

Hee. :p

But seriously, maybe just do it mainly with the photo album. I come on and check, there's nothing new. I go back to other threads and check back at the photo album again and realized that there are like 20 new pics I haven't seen.

It's maddening.

That's cause there's no off topic discussion thread like there should have always been. So people turned that thread into one.

Option 2.

As they're set up now, I know what thread to look in for specific info on a particular character. If there is no separation for individual characters, you're going have multiple (and inevitably) overlapping threads. The current format eliminates clutter.

Dammit, we Option 1 people are losing. :p

Because it's dare I say it......a bad option?

-darts out of thread before getting killed-

Oh, get back here.

:p

Why not just have both?

If you are going to allow mutliple threads to be made anyway, what does having one more, the official thread, matter?

That way, the regular participators of the "Official" threads can still continue to have their daily spam-scussions (kidding :p) and other people are free to make threads about specific things concerning the character in the movie. (as per "option 2")

The character threads can exist as a place to speculate whats going on with the character in the film, discuss any pics of that character, say what they want from that character in the film.

And then a great example of a separate thread is the "Rogue taking the cure" thread - this one exists purely to discuss that topic, which people can do so and read the back-chat easily, without having to sift through pages of non-related material.

To make people less daunted about making new threads you could always change the names of the "official" threads to just (eg) Rogue: The character Discussion Thread.

Of course we'd need the gurantee that the good old regulars aren't going to leap into every new thread screaming "ALREADY GOT ONE! DIE DEVIL SPAWN!!"

I mean if some new kid pokes their head in and makes a duplicate thread about oh, I dunno, whatever, all it needs is a polite redirection, and a quick answer to the kids question and then the thread drops down and is gone. Even if some people do continue to post in that thread and it goes on for a little while, how does it hurt anyone, what does it really matter?

Anyway that's my 2 cents :)

There you go.

Everybody wins.

I like the character threads because it makes it easier to find out or talk about a specific character but I am all for relaunching them once they become too cumbersome. I understand the issue with spam in them and that is a problem. Waitaminit at the rate I'm going it'll be 2010 or later before I get a avator. Maybe I should spam :) . Just kidding.
