I wouldn't be surprised if the studios didn't even know who owns Captain Britain

That actually happens quite a bit. Guardians of the Galaxy is a great example. Both the Badoon and Bug were planned at certain points, but Marvel doesn't have them.

Very interesting. I wonder how much back and forth go between the studios to discuss this. I guess it's usually all fairly tame but wasn't their issues when they were fighting over QS? Fox seems to have got the upper hand on that one.

I've heard that back and forth is kept at a minimum between the two atm, but there definitely has to be some. It can also get quite igly, indeed. See the Drew Goddard situation...

Even if there hasn't been much so far there's bound to be more disputes. Some properties were so insignificant when the deals were made a lot of things probably weren't even mentioned in the initial contracts. When it comes to things like alien races that link to Hulk, Guardians and the FF, there's going to be disagreement.

I would imagine that this is exactly how we get "frozen" characters.

I'm sure both studies ensure that all their ducks are in row before moving into production. Both would want to avoid lawsuits.

One would assume so, but as the saying goes, **** happens. The Badoon were in GotG until pretty late in the game. X2 managed to include a Deadpool Easter Egg when Fox didn't actually have the Deadpool rights.

2016

Deadpool

A former Special Forces operative turned mercenary is subjected to a rogue experiment that leaves him with accelerated healing powers and adopts the alter ego Deadpool.

X-Men: Apocalypse

In 1983, the X-Men battle an ancient, malevolent force that will forever change history.

Gambit

A Cajun thief is tasked with stealing a mysterious cannister from the very band of criminals that taught him every dirty trick he knows.
  • Cannister is revealed to be the Legacy Virus
  • Gambit must not only steal it from the Thieves Guild (Bella Donna & crew), but keep it from his employer
  • Gambit’s employer is not revealed, but instead conducts business through his intermediary X-Cutioner.

2017

Wolverine: Old Man Logan

Wolverine is struggling to find his place in the new world he’s awoken into. When a young girl leads a charge on the Xavier Institute with a set of metal claws all her own, & captures several of the X-Men to recruit into a nefarious rouge military outfit, Logan embarks on a journey to confront the ghosts of a past he doesn’t remember.

  • X-23 is not a clone of Wolverine, but is still created in to mirror Wolverine him—the entire Weapon X program was created to produce mutant soldiers molded in his image (both Stryker & Trask saw him in action in Paris, and the world will watch him as a horseman in Apocalypse)
  • Not a retread of XO:W— use characters like Omega Red, The Director
  • Rogue, Professor X, & some other roles for OT cast
  • Story = mashup of Ultimate X-Men Vol 2, X-Men: Evolution X23 storyline, & Old Man Logan

New Mutants
In an attempt to return to the core ideology of the institute, Professor X creates a new team of mutants to train & teach. Their lessons are put to the test when a mysterious force known only as the Shadow King emerges on the island nation of Genosha
  • Team: Cannonball, Blink, Warpath, Mirage, X23, Rictor, & Elixir
  • Trainers: Beast & Shadowcat
  • Build up the X universe (Muir Island, Genosha, etc.)

2018:

X-Men: Apocalypse Sequel
The young X-Men must face against Sinister, a deadly mutant whose fascination with genetics causes him to set his sights on Jean Grey & Cyclops.
  • Sinister acquires Jean & Scott’s genetic tissue
  • Introduce Sinister's Marauders (1980s version)

X-Force (crossover)
With the threat of release of the Legacy Virus, a mutant warrior named Cable journeys from the future to assemble a team tough enough to take on Mister Sinister.
  • Reveal that Cable is Jean & Scott’s genetic child created by Sinister
  • Reveal that Sinister’s research from the 1980s helped jumpstart the Weapon X program (granting Deadpool his healing factor, creating X23, etc.)
  • Team: Cable, Deadpool, Gambit, Domino, Wolfsbane, Bishop, Colossus (if he’s really in Deadpool)
  • Sinister’s plan: Eradicate the current generation of mutants & replace them with a higher breed (explains his constant tampering with genetic mutatation…he wants to create a “better” mutant

And then keep moving forward with sequels to each of the franchises:
- Deadpool 2
- Gambit 2
- X-Men (1980s)
- New Mutants 2 (introduce Magik & Limbo)
- X-Force 2 (based on Inferno)

I would be willing to bet that Rama-Tut/Kang/Immortus is another split character.

I would be willing to bet that Rama-Tut/Kang/Immortus is another split character.

That's a definite possibility, but it's also possible he's just at Marvel. There seems to be a LOT of exclusions with the Fantastic Four film package (Inhumans, Kree, etc.). The Fantastic Four have, arguably, the strangest film rights history of any group of Marvel characters. At one time, the Human Torch's film rights were separate from the rest of the group. It's hard to say what's actually included.

Nice. Loving the Gambit/Virus idea and introducing X23 and the plot you laid out for W3

I like most of your ideas. I just don't like your roster for New Mutants. And, it obviously might change, but it has been stated that X-Force will have 5 members.

Also, there is the TV Show which is set to premiere sometime between 2016 and 2017.

I'm really curious to see how the Fox universe will work. If FF will be in it or not. How the movies will connect being in different time periods. Future franchises. Future event movies.

If Jennifer Lawrence leaves will they let Morena Baccarin take over the Shape shifter role of the universe or just recast?

Yea, that roster is....yea, not a fan of it. If it's being described as a more supernatural take on mutants, I think that has to pretty much confirm or at least hint that Magik is going to be involved in some capacity.

I wouldn't be surprised if they just recast, a shapeshifter is the one character where they can change actor easily. We will probably find out after Apocalypse, Fassbender has said his contract runs out then so its probably safe to assume that the rest of the FC cast have similar contracts. Might depend on how much of a pay rise she asks for, she is of far higher status now as an actress than she was back when she signed for FC.

I know there's a possibility but I doubt she wants to come back.

They will recast only if they have further Films planned for the character and they either ain't willing to pay Lawrence the amount she asks (currently the highest paid actress) or Lawrence just doesn't wanna come back

i don't think anyone can talk for Lawrence though because she doesn't look excited about any roles it's just how she is, she doesn't seem to like the media attention that comes with these roles

A big issue for the FC cast is also that the characters are aging an awful lot faster than the actors themselves. Will Fox want to keep using aging makeup on all their cast.

Interesting. As much as we're discussing this massive expanded Foxverse thing, the COO of 21st Century Fox is now saying Fox SHOULDN'T become known as the comic book adaptation studio. That's a very interesting thing to say when Fox is supposedly planning to release more of them then Disney, a studio that actually owns a comic book company. Almost makes you wonder if they're second guessing some of them...

I think that most of them will get made. FOX has got 7 upcoming films confirmed (Deadpool, XM:A, Gambit, Wolverine 3, New Mutants, FF, FF2), which is fewer than either Marvel or WB at 10 apiece. I don't have a heck of a lot of confidence in the Fant4stic sequel, and Gambit will probably be pushed back, but the rest of the FOX films look solid.

Actually, Fox has way more comic films planned than that. More than Disney. Also, the Spidey films are Sony, especially the animated one (afaik Marvel Studios isn't involved with that). Remember, Fox has other comic based films besides the Marvel stuff. They're putting out twice as many as Disney this year.

What other properties do they have besides the FF and the X-men?

Yeah I keep forgetting that Fox do a lot of non-Marvel CBMs also.
