Marvel Animation Friendly Neighborhood Spider-Man

Finished episode 2 and it's really interesting so far, very different from most Spidey content. I'm in for now.

I thought the first episode was stronger but the second episode was still really good and I’m looking forward to the rest of the season. I’m loving the animation for this series so far and the trailers didn’t do it justice. Feels like a comic brought to life.

I think it's fine.

Having just finished Spectacular Spiderman recently, after missing it back in the day, the bar is pretty high.

But this is them doing their own thing with the myths, and while I prefer other animated versions of the story, the first two episodes are fine, imo.

Maybe its going to lead to somewhere cool, but I can't say I am a fan of Doctor Strange and Venom being involved in Spider-Man's origin.

Yeah, at first glance it seems very unnecessary. I'm happy to see the show is being so well received, though, both from the folks that got to see all 10 episodes already and the regular audiences who've seen the first 2 so far. I'll be checking em out tonight, hoping to enjoy.

Just saw the first episode. I enjoyed it a lot! The animation is starting to grow on me and I love those thick black shadows.
It feels like a mix of all previous animated incarnations all at once.

I’m liking it so far the few changes they’ve made don’t really bother me the animation is really great… I hope spidey gets his more classic suit in the next few episodes

It doesnt matter because the grifters already turn on the show, after less than a day of going "Hollywood is burning because of this anti woke show".
He lost the show a certain amount of good viewers, wont gain the anti woke crowd...it wont reach what it could have because of careless comments.

I still think the show will do decent enough, its Spider-Man afterall...the casual viewer doesnt care about either sides of such a debate.

That is some way to "misspeak" and stick not just your foot, but both feet in your mouth at once.

Hmmm it’s definitely different . Time will tell if this will become synonymous with Spidey.

As for the show it’s a slow burn, let’s see how it develops.

Okay, I kind of went back on what I said and decided to give this show a chance the other day, despite the stupid controversy surrounding it, because I was just too curious.

Surprisingly, I really dig this. Like, a lot.

As far as the animation is concerned, I think it works. A lot of the clips and trailers that they’ve released really don’t do a proper job showcasing how it looks overall within the context of the series itself. It’s not the greatest ever, and there is a bit of jank here and there with some of the movement and expressions, but it really does serve the feel and look of this world. The art style itself being very much a throwback and blend of the old Steve Ditko and John Romita illustrations also really gives the show that old-school flair and charm that helps it stand out from something a bit more generic like What-If while still feeling modern. It really does feel like watching a living, breathing, moving comic book. At a certain point, I just got so used to it I stopped thinking about it and just got drawn into the world and its characters. As the show goes on, I’m sure it will be further improved and refined, but what we have now ain’t too shabby.

Also, I find the quote from the main actor about the show not being “woke” pretty laughable, as there is a lot of diversity to be found, with the designs of the main, side and background characters, Peter’s best friend is bisexual and a cop slowly drives next to and attentively follows a black teen on his way home within the first 10 minutes of the first episode.

The change of the origin to Peter getting bitten by a spider that comes through a portal created by Doctor Strange fighting an alien threat sometime after Uncle Ben’s death is a little strange (pun not intended), but, other than that, the rest of the show, at least so far, has been pretty low-key and grounded. In spite of any issues I may have, I am willing to see where the show goes before I make any solid judgments.

If a lot of their future animated shows are more like this, which is more confident and has a really good idea of what it wants to be, and less like What-If, which while enjoyable at times is definitely hampered by the one episode per story format and feels very uneven and like people throwing stuff at a wall to see what sticks, then I gladly welcome them.

The first thing I thought was: the show is created by POCs, it's not fair to boycott their work because of a prick. But we do need to be really careful with that type of talk now.

With that said, I intend to watch it tomorrow morning. Saturday mornings sounds nice for it.

Glad you enjoyed it.

I've seen the first two episodes twice now, very pleased to say I enjoyed the start to the series! I think the first time the opening minutes with the origin was still a little weird for me, and getting used to the CGI, but once it starts going I fell right into the world and the animation started also really working for me too. I think we've got potential here for a solid Spidey show again after many years of misses, really appreciate the grounded feel so far (which makes the origin again stick out so far lol) which we don't get enough of with superhero stuff and especially Spidey anymore anywhere- that's where the character works best and it should only benefit the show by sticking with that.

The end credits theme for some reason gives me like Dreamcast or anime ending vibes. The swinging scenes and action looked pretty dang seamless and slick too. I dig how the opening credits will seemingly change and add things every episode, like Norman being in front of Oscorp in episode 2 now, and the title cards being like different comic covers every episode is a fun touch, and I think it's a given the costume will change in the opening with whatever he's wearing.

I'm getting Sonic 06 vibes from this. 🤭

Don’t like the Peter voice at all. I really enjoy the colors and animation. Not really digging most of the character designs though. Peter’s origin playing out like that didn’t work for me. But I didn’t hate it. Looking forward to seeing Daredevil more than anything. It’s too bad he hasn’t had his own animated show. Would’ve been great in the 90s animated continuity

Yeah, nowadays, I tend to not give a review to something unless it’s notable in some way or another, so I thought it was worth talking about.

With it having been renewed for season three, if the show continues to improve more and more over time, especially when it’s already quite good, I could probably see this becoming a favorite.

There’s just something about this that feels a little different and special. It’s a little rough right now and has some edges and kinks that need to be worked out, but I can already tell there is a lot of yet-to-be-tapped potential just waiting to be mined. Out of any comic book character, Spider-Man has such a long, storied and rich history and such a vast world and characters to explore, and, if given to the right creatives and writers, like with what this show seems to be doing, great things tend to happen.

The more I talk about it, the more excited I get thinking about the possibilities of what they can do.

I watched it in spanish, so...

Even if you don't speak other languages, you can still read subtitles. You're gonna lose Colman Domingo, but...

Anyway... I haven't seen the 2nd one, but the first one is nice.
