Civil War The Official Friendly Neighborhood Spider-Man Thread

I think Spider-Man will start off on Iron Man's side being persuaded by Iron Man's tech and money. But then switch to Cap's side later on.

Not entirely surely, one would assume horizontal is a lot bigger than vertical and also his running jump would be insane if you used that scale.

Of course scientifically it is all a bit moot, spiders are only stronger because of 'scaling' which wouldn't apply to Spidey, and they can only jump and run faster etc because of the way their joints are which again doesn't apply to Spidey.

They need to just go ok, this is how strong he is, this is how far he can jump and stuff, stretch it a bit for cinematic reasons but don't go ridiculous.

I think they should have it so Spider-man could take some punches from Iron Man but would mostly have to just evade using his agility, and shoot webs.

While he has jumped pretty far in some of the sm movies before and I want him to beable to jump like a real spider lol. But yeah I think sm agility is one of the big things that separate him form another super heros has he is better at advoiding getting hit compared to another ones.

I really think all of you hoping for Spider-Man to be all up in the Civil War are barking up the wrong true. It's not going to be a Spider-Man movie.

This. It's a Captain America movie first and foremost. Spider-Man, Black Panther, and Iron Man. Will all be seondary characters and have small roles where as the entire story will be told from Captain America's perspective. Maybe they'll have a Blu-Ray feature telling it from Iron Man and Spidey's perspective. But it'll mostly be about Captain America...I hope.

Black Panther and Spiderman will have minor secondary roles. Ironman will have a pretty big role since the story is about Cap v Iornman. Black Widow was a secondary character in TWS, but she also had a big role in that movie.

Sounds like a good idea to me.

She had a big role, but she wasn't the protagonist. That's the main difference.

In essence, she was Cap's sidekick. Nearly as much screne time as he.

I'd like for Spidey and Black Panther to share a moment on screen. Two masked heroes just sitting there staring at each other. Each wondering "who's behind the mask." and then spidey breaks the stare silence and cracks a joke about Black Panther's costume "Was White Tiger already taken?".

lol that would be spidey like.

yes it does sound like the wall crawler

I was just thinking if Spidey is in this a decent amount which I doubt at this point, if he were to sign up for SRA surely he would have to give his real name. But then if he swapped sides, the Government/Shield would know his true identity and so would probably reveal it to the public.

Hopefully not. Then they'd have to do a "One More Day" film.

That would be funny. :woot:

While I think it would be cool to see Spider-man have a roll somewhat reflective of his role in the comic I don't know if his role will be large enough to warrant that. It could just be a cameo when all is said and done. He may not even be made to choose sides when it comes down to it. Though I would love it if even in the limited time he may have that Iron Man is trying to lure him to his cause, but he chooses Captain America in the end. Would be great to see Spidey have scenes with the both of them.

In the comics, Spiderman is on Tony Stark's side, unmasks, then he has his doubts, then switches sides to be on Captain America's side. Am I missing something? What else needs to happen here? Why do people think he won't get enough screen time?

He'll definitely have an important role with an appropriate amount of screen-time to accommodate that, given Marvel and Sony had to specify he'll first appear in an upcoming MCU film... However, people are saying it won't be as important as his role in the comics, which is completely understandable.

I don't know how many heroes are going to be in this or if they're even doing one team vs the other, but I've always imagined his role - along with a number of other heroes (should there be enough for him to stand among) - as a... ugh I dunno, recurring cameo? Maybe one dedicated scene then spending the rest of the film in the background with others (if that team v team scenario plays out). But as I mentioned earlier, he's got to have more than one important scene, and I can't figure it out.

I still can't wrap my head around the "it's Civil War!" and the "but it's truly a Captain America film" thing, even when I'm fine with both.

Because people like Black Panther will likely have a more prominent role. Not to mention there will be other heroes with roles too. The deal was only recently made so it seems a safe bet that Spider-man's role won't be as substantial as it was in the comics. Plus we've already been told that Civil War is not going to be about secret identities and they're not going to unmask Spider-man on his MCU debut.

Black Panther having a more prominent role? Is that why they bumped his solo movie for Spider-Man?

We don't know how long Sony and Marvel have been in negotiations, but all signs point to it having been in the works for a long time.

But that's just the thing. Spider-Man's role in civil war wasn't as substantial as many people make it out to be. I mean, it's not like they ever really needed Spiderman to do s civil war movie to begin with. Besides, Marvel probably already had separate scripts for Spiderman before this deal was ever finalized. Marvl plans for such things.

What does that have to do with anything? Marvel had to make room for a solo Spider-man movie regardless of what was there. That doesn't equate to Black Panther having a lesser role than Spider-man. The deal with Spider-man only went through recently and Civil War is soon to start filming. They still haven't confirmed Spider-man for that movie, but they did confirm Black Panther when they announced the actor and the solo movie.

I'd agree that you don't necessarily need Spider-man to make a Civil War movie, as important as his moment was, but the point is that it is substantial enough that it would need time dedicated to it. It's not just a turn up and say hello cameo.

As far as an alternative script. I think something like that was alluded to or rumoured at one point. Even so, I doubt that both versions would be so drastic that they'd spring a version that so reduced other characters this close to filming.

If this is anywhere near as long as Age of Ultron is apparently going to be(2 hours and 45 minutes I heard) then we'll get more than enough time for Spider-Man and Black Panther to play big roles and be prominent characters. Granted they'll be prominent Secondary Characters, but still prominent and important to the plot.

There writers prepared two scripts for a reason, or that's what people are thinking anyways. If that's true, which one do you think Black Panther has a bigger part in? The one with or without Spider-Man? His role with be substantially smaller with Spider-Man now in the universe. Getting his movie pushed back is just another negative thing for BP. Think whatever you want, but now that they have Spidey they're definitely going to budget the screen time differently... Despite whatever plans they have for BP in the now further ahead future.
