Civil War The Official Friendly Neighborhood Spider-Man Thread

What other negatives are there for Black Panther? If you count the movie being pushed back that's the only one I'm aware of.

Everybody's time will be budgeted differently. The inclusion of any other character guarantees that. I'm just saying I don't think they would write two vastly different Civil War movies. I'm of the opinion that BP's role will be larger than Spider-man's since he would be featured in both and it seems they announced him for Civil War when they did because he has a substantial role. I don't see that changing because Spider-man is appearing.

Plus it seems to me people are making more of a fuss about the movies that got pushed back to make way for a Spider-man solo. Those movies were not cancelled or pushed back for years.

If they have two scripts the answer is simple...combine them.

If Spider-Man is in, then just make the movie 15 minutes longer to compensate.
Simples!

Original release date was November 2017, now it's July 2018. Although he's already going to be in the universe thanks to Civil War, we miss out on his solo movie before the first Infinity War movie. Spidey will have his own movie before IW Part I. Whether or not that means Spidey's role will be bigger (In IW: I) remains to be seen. I believe it could.

Are you saying that a script without Spider-Man vs one with him wouldn't produce completely different films?

I wouldn't rule it out entirely, but it depends on whether Spider-man's role is pretty much what his comic book role was (minus de-masking) or if it's largely a cameo before his solo movie.

I think The Black Panther film benefits from the move. If his role is a significant size in Civil War I don't see why his role in Infinity Wars would be smaller than intended (and nothing has even been written yet) just because his solo hadn't come first and his appearance in that if well received will only help to build him up for his solo film which now has a stronger release date in July. I think Ragnorok is the film that got hurt most by this move, posited now just 2 weeks before Justice League.

I can't see them re-writing a $200m+ movie script in the last month to accommodate any new largish role. Spider-man is icing on the cake, not the cake so they're not going to re-bake it. :cwink:

In the main book Spider-man had about 6 pages. There's no need for him to have a significant role in this movie. Unlike in the comics there's no strong foundation for his switch in loyalties or why he'd be so important to the press since a) he just got started if they're going young teen so who cares if he's de-masked and 2) the Registration Act and movies will not be about secret identities.

They're also not going to de-mask Spider-man in his first film for them because then what would they do about that in his solos?

Yep excellent point! And the unmasking would never have a big impact onscreen, since every Spider-Man film had a Unmasking scene in it. For film audiences it wouldn't be as shocking as it was in the comics.
