From THE CHAMPIONS to THE ORDER

Gray Hulk really has no reason to exist anymore given the curent level of Savage Hulk's intelligence.

That's probably why we haven't seen him in years. I liked the gray Hulk, myself.

How about we make this the official thread?

Preview's up at 'Rama....looking nice..

Lame huh?

I dunno, this has potential to distance itself from all other cape team books out there at the moment.Interesting concepts and new characters, why not?

Plus you got Fraction, leader of the new school, and Kitson who has kicked ass for years with some of the most defined yet CLEAN art in the business.

DC just did this, it was called Infinity Inc. and they're getting a mini now too.

Oh my god, it's as if they put City of Heroes in a book. Look at those designs.

I'm not the biggest fan of these costumes, but the premise sounds cool, and I've been enjoying Fraction's stuff a lot lately. I'll definitely pick this up.

And it's Barry Kitson doing a Marvel book. I pretty much have to.

Kitson is one of the best.I hope he stays on this book for a while and gets deserving work down the line at Marvel.

I'm onboard for the first few issues for Kitson alone. Gotta say though, with the exception of the robot and the goth-hammer broad the characters have really generic designs.

Only one dude is wearing a cape, and they're essentially brightly colored Ultimate costumes.

I'm trying this out. The whole concept intrigues me. One year to save the world.

I enjoy most of Fraction's work, and the art looks really nice. The only thing I'm really not to keen on is the costumes, like most of you have mentioned.

A superhero's costume is a big deal, Art Rosenbaum anyone? To me these suits just look plain meh.

Yeah, that gives me DC/WildStorm vibe for some reason. Like a do-gooding Authority or something...

The mystery is solved! There's an ad for The Order in one of the comics I bought this week and I wondered, "Why haven't I heard about this team before?"

Also, I'm glad they decided not to go with the Greek God names for the characters. I didn't like it, and I'll bet Hercules would be none too pleased :yay: .

They could have always called the "book" The Order, using the reasoning that Dread mentioned (They are an Order mandated by SHIELD or something like that), and then inside call themselves The Champions like DC did weith Captain Marvel.
The book was called, and is called, SHAZAM! but inside he is Captain Marvel.

So Marvel could have called the book "The Order"
but inside called the team The Champions.

Are these the backup guys SHIELD sent in during Civil War to fight Cap's side? The regular guys in super costumes that duplicated the Avenger's powers?

I don't mind the topic bump. I don't create topics often so when I do, it is special. ;)

I will be giving this a shot. I like Fraction's other work and the premise is interesting, although somewhat simular to X-STATIX. The art looks fine and I don't mind the designs, these are new characters after all. They even seemed to keep the sex ratio's even for once so far (3-3).

In fact the only bit about the premise I don't care for is the fact that retirement after a year is MANDATORY, at least by the solict. That, as it sounds now, is pure stupidity, the sort of thing that writers do to almost show that the Initiative is inept or self-defeating. If one of The Order proves themselves to be an efficient, competant hero, why the hell should you FORCE them to quit after only a year? If anything, they should get a raise or more support or something. You risk turning a hero into an ENEMY by forcing them to retire. It seems tacked on to ripoff STRIKEFORCE MORTUARY (a little read 80's series where heroes literally died after a year due to the power process).
