From the Pages of Captain America Comes the Winter Soldier Ongoing Series!

2 issues in and it is already one of my favorite comics on the shelves. THe wait from isse 1 to 2 was killing me, and I suspect the wait til 3 will be pretty tiresome as well.

I dunno, I haven't been wowed by it yet. So far it seems like standard Bru espionage fair that's yet to really find the same fire that drove Bru's first Cap run through 60 some issues.

It's definitely better than Captain America at the moment, at least. I wouldn't say it's among my favorite comics because it is pretty much standard Brubaker fare, but standard for Brubaker when it comes to spy thrillers is still pretty good.

I think I would like Captain America a lot if it weren't so decompressed.

I do like how Brubaker's has switched from his normal genre, to having more action-oriented, superhero-genre (if that makes sense) Cap stories...but at the same time they feel kind of cheap and phoned it. It's like he got the tone right, but everything else he just doesn't care about.

I don't know, something about the new Cap series just isn't sitting well with me. I keep closing each issue unsatisfied in some way that I can't really define. Maybe it is just the decompressing. Not a lot happens in each issue, which makes it feel like Brubaker's padding more now because he's running low on ideas for Steve. The fact that we're seeing a rehash of the "Cap loses his powers" plot after he just used it in the Super-Soldier mini doesn't help. It definitely feels like he's much more into writing for Bucky than Steve, now that I can see the two samples side-by-side.

Yep, like I said, Cap's tone is really good, but you can tell Bru's not putting his usual amount of effort into it. I still enjoy the book though, probably because I love Alan Davis.

Honestly, it kinda feels like he's running out of ideas with Bucky too. I dunno, the first two issues just feel like his Cap run all over again. I would like to see something new.

I love Davis too, but I wish he were penciling more exciting stuff. I keep wishing he were drawing something I'm genuinely interested in rather than something I'm so lukewarm about.

Winter Soldier feels a bit like Bucky-Cap, but I like the harder spy edge to it. Bucky can do things as the bogeyman cleaning up his Winter Soldier messes that he couldn't as Cap.

Davis just reminds me of a modern Neal Adams. Even more so than the real Neal Adams. :o

well If the other thread is closed, I'm bumping this one.

Bucky needs some love..

His comic's good, although it basically just feels like a grittier version of Brubaker's Captain America. But I guess if you've got a formula that works, why mess with it?

I think Bru's writing in general has become terribly uninspired the past year or so.

I think he's burnt out. For now, at least.

I'm enjoying it. Yeah, Bru's writing has taken a few step backwards recently but this is still pretty strong work. It's selling decently so I hope it sticks around if Bru decides to leave it as well as Cap. It at least deserves another shot with a different writer. I nominate Greg Rucka.

Well, it won't be for lack of trying on my part. Unless they suck and I drop it immediately. We'll see.

Granted, that could open Bucky up for joining--or maybe even leading--the Secret Avengers. He'd be a way better fit than Hawkeye, the loudmouth who hates spy stuff.

Interesting bit of news. Brubaker just had two different pilots scooped up by 2 different networks, 1 for FOX and 1 for NBC. His comic career is over...

Bucky would be perfect for Secret Avengers. I always envisioned an espionage heavy team, such as:

Winter Soldier,
Black Widow,
Valkyrie,
War Machine,
Quake,
Ant-Man, and
Devil Slayer (for the mystical stuff)

Have Nick Fury oversee operations and Bucky lead the team. Get a great conspiracy/poltical/espionage drama writer like Hickman and Boom - great title!
