"From The Pages Of..." Comics Universe RPG: Season I Signup/OOC Thread

I've never heard a comic book fan praise a Fox movie like that before... I'm scared.

I think that's because it's not actually based off a comic-property.

Since I dropped Kick-Ass, I'll go ahead and apply for this guy.

From The Pages Of... RPG APPLICATION

Screen Name: Byrd Man

Character you'd like to portray: Roland Deschain/The Gunslinger.

Superhuman powers, traits, other attributes of interest: None, though Roland has been trained from birth in a variety of diffrent combat styles, horseback riding, and he knows how to sling a gun or two. He also has extensive surival training and knows a bit of magic.

Originally appearing from (which comic, and company?): The Gunslinger Born (Marvel)

Fictional history of the character (as you're going to interpret it):

A 30th-generation descendant of his world's version of King Arthur, Arthur Eld, Roland Deschain was born in Gilead in Mid-World.

Roland becomes a gunslinger at the unheard-of age of 14 after being manipulated into taking the "trial of manhood" by Marten Broadcloak, his father's adviser and incarnation of Randall Flagg. Marten has an affair with Roland's mother and makes sure Roland finds out about it, prompting Roland to request his trial in order to gain his guns and exact revenge on Marten. In the trial, Roland must defeat his teacher, Cort, using a weapon of his choosing. He chooses a hawk named David and defeats Cort. Despite Roland's victory, Cort and Roland's father convince Roland to bide his time before seeking retribution.

Not long after, Roland's father sends him on a mission to the town of Hambry in the Outer Barony of Mejis with his friends Alain Johns and Cuthbert Allgood, who will form the basis for his first ka-tet. While there, he comes into the possession of a pink crystal ball, one of 13 magical artifacts referred to as "Maerlyn's Rainbow." It was while looking into this artifact that Roland first discovered his destiny to quest for the Dark Tower.

Fifteen years later, Roland's world has moved on and he is the last Gunslinger. He sets out on his mission to save his world and fufill his destiny at the Dark Tower. As he travels towards the Dark Tower, his world starts to overrlap with other worlds. Upon finally confronting the Man in Black, Roland finds a door that leads to another world. Dropped into Barrow, Alaska, Roland fights the vampire menace alongside the other heroes and then accompanies the Ghostbusters back to New York, so they can figure out how to get him back home, and how to save reality.

Hero, Villain, or Walking the line?: Hero

List a few reasons why you chose this character: I love the Gunslinger and the Dark Tower series. I got to barely play Roland in the Multiversers RPG, and I didn't resolve the storyline in this RPG.

How will this character differ from it's original incarnation?: If it ain't broke, don't fix it. He'll be pretty close to what he was in the books and comics.

Write two complete sentences explaining what you can bring to this RPG: I can bring a decent RPGer with a love of the Dark Tower. I can also bring a complete badass. If anyone has a problem with it, then deal with it...we deal in lead.

How many days a week you intend on posting in the RPG: Much as needed.

Please provide a small sample post as your character, at least three paragraphs and one line of dialogue in length:

The Gunslinger fell out of the saloon's batwing doors, barley avoiding the knife that was aimed for his heart.

"Interloper!"

The piano player tried to leap on him. The Gunslinger responded with hands that had been trained to kill from birth.

BLAM!

His hands were faster than lightning as he pulled out one of the big guns with the sandalwood grips. It was claimed the guns were forged from Arthur Eld's ancient sword. They was also Roland's birthright.

The bullet entered the piano player's head and pushed his brains and skull out the back. What was left of his brains splattered inside the saloon. But it was too late, the trap had been sprung as the whole town of Tull came to life.

"INTERLOPER!!!"

"KILL THE INTERLOPER!"

Every man, woman, and child in the small town of Tull had descended upon him. They were about 120 strong and armed with sticks, rocks, and gardening equipment. They didn't have a chance.

The Gunslinger quickly sprung to his feet, removing the other big gun and aiming at the mob. The word's of his teacher, Cort, ringing in his ears.

You do not aim with your hand. He who aims with his hand has forgotten the face of his father. You aim with your eye.

His hands were like blurs as he fired round after round into the people of Tull, slowly moving back as they stepped over the mounting bodies in front of him.

You do not shoot with your hand. He who shoots with his hand has forgotten the face of his father. You shoot with your mind.

Face after dirty face came to the front, only to meet their demise at his hands. His finger tips were sorched with the hot bullet shells he was quickly emptying and reloading.

You do not kill with your gun. He who kills with his gun has forgotten the face of his father. You kill with your heart.

And just like that, silence. The whole town of Tull laid in front of him. Everyone as dead as the ground they laid on. Every man, woman, and child dead. They had moved on to the clearing at the end of the path. Gone, just like his father, his mother, his friends Alain and Cuthbert. Gone like his only love Susan, and the baby that was in her belly when she burned alive at the stake.

He breathed heavily as he holstered his guns. They were truly gone, his world had moved on and only he remained. The last Gunslinger.

Approved.

Hey Byrd...we still planning on doing the whole England storyline?

Once the story is wrapped up with the Winchester Bros, sure.

Not in the sense you can be Spider-Man, a member of the X-Men, etc. They have their own universe. You can choose a character in a Marvel published comic if the comic wasn't set inside the Marvel U.

Ohh, okay.

So, anyways, I figured I'd ditch the idea of bein' a villain. I suck anyway, someone decent should be a villain. What's the current situation, anyway? I haven't been keepin' up with reading y'all's stuff.

Saw A-Team. It kicked ass.

And I'm dropping Jay. Might pick up another character. May not.

From The Pages Of... RPG APPLICATION

Screen Name: Eddie Brock

Character you'd like to portray: Optimus Prime

Superhuman powers, traits, other attributes of interest: Optimus is one of a race of sentient robotic beings from the planet Cybertron. As such, he possesses the ability to transform into an alternate form of his choosing - in this case, a red and blue Peterbilt semi truck. In his robot form, Optimus stands at nearly thirty feet tall and possesses an array of advanced weaponry.

Originally appearing from (which comic, and company?): Transformers - IDW Publishing

Fictional history of the character (as you're going to interpret it): For many years, Optimus Prime - the newest Prime and leader of the Autobots - waged war against Megatron and the evil Decepticon forces. As the war raged on, their home planet of Cybertron was slowly destroyed and depleted of its resources - most importantly, energon, the life force of Cybertronians. With Cybertron drained of this precious resource, the Autobots and Decepticons alike set to the stars to find suitable sources of energon.

Eventually, Optimus - accompanied by a small but loyal band of Autobots - found his way to a small planet called Earth. There, for some time, the Autobots lived in peace, hiding in plain sight and living off of the planet's rich stores of energon. It was a welcome reprieve from the years of war and suffering.

However, the Decepticons have found their way to Earth, and the Autobots will once again be called upon to defend their new home and those who dwell on it.

Hero, Villain, or Walking the line?: Hero

List a few reasons why you chose this character: Well, it's pretty clear that an all-Transformers RPG, for whatever reason, just can't stand on its own two legs. Therefore, this RPG may be the best - and only - opportunity to play a Transformers character. By choosing Optimus, I'll be able to control most of the action on that front until/unless someone joins me.

Write two complete sentences explaining what you can bring to this RPG: I'm a fairly reliable, enthusiastic poster. In introducing the Transformers mythos, I open up a whole new world of possibilities for this RPG.

How many days a week you intend on posting in the RPG: As many as needed.

Please provide a small sample post as your character, at least three paragraphs and one line of dialogue in length:

A yellow Chevrolet Camaro races down the empty street in the direction of the abandoned power plant. Not slowing down, the car smashes through a flimsy chain-link fence and continues onward. The car switches gears as it takes a tight turn, leaving skid marks around the corner of the old building. Finally, the car seems to slow as it draws closer to the meeting place.

Also present are a black GMC Topkick, a white and red emergency Hummer H2, and a silver Pontiac Solstice. The cars are arranged in a semi-circle, facing each other. The yellow Camaro pulls into place and comes to a complete halt.

Moments later, the last of the party arrives - a red and blue Peterbilt semi truck. The engine rumbles as the vehicle pulls up, and the brakes give a slight squeal as it comes to a stop. Once the truck stops, it immediately begins to twist and turn. Pieces of the truck spin around, locking into place, as the semi truck is replaced by a large robot.

Optimus Prime, leader of the Autobots.

The four other cars transform as well, and Optimus waits for them to finish before speaking. "Autobots, I bring grave news," Optimus reports in a deep, commanding voice. He shifts his weight from one leg to the other. "It is the day we have always feared. The Decepticons have arrived on Earth."

"Fine by me," says the Autobot known as Ironhide. "My cannons were beginning to rust."

Rolling his eyes, the Autobot known as Ratchet asks his leader, "How many of them have come?"

"I detected over twenty Decepticons landing just last night," Optimus explains, "But we must assume that more are coming."

The Autobot known as Jazz makes a synthetic noise, the equivalent of a human clearing his throat. As all eyes turn to the lieutenant, Jazz asks, "And Megatron...?"

"Is with them," Optimus answers gravely. He turns and looks out over the river and to skyline beyond that. "It will take the Decepticons some time to gather themselves. I have sent a distress beacon to all Autobots, urging them to come to Earth." Optimus merely blinks. "I can only hope our reinforcements arrive soon."

I say approve this man. Just based on the fact we can have a Transformers, A-Team, G.I. Joe team- *head blows up from sheer awesomeness*

I'm just picturing B.A. Baracus driving Optimus Prime. :awesome:

EDIT: By the way, for anyone interested, I'm not necessarily rolling out the movie lineup. That was just for simplicity's sake with the sample.

Nah, Hannibal would be in Optimus.

B.A. would drive Ironside since he's a van. (Yeah, I always think the G1 cartoon, you wanna fight about it?)

Murdock can fly Jetfire.

"Excellent flying, human."

"Whoa! Nice to know those voices I'm hearing aren't in my head for a change."

Okay, so, i know I said I may pick up an A-Team member, but that's going to have to wait for a little. this game is seriously devoid of bad guys, so...

From The Pages Of... RPG APPLICATION

Screen Name: Carnage27

Character you'd like to portray: Vlad III Tepes, aka Vlad III Dracula, aka Vlad the Impaler, aka Count Dracula

Superhuman powers, traits, other attributes of interest: Dracula, being an undead being, is an immortal, only being able to be killed by first being beheaded and then staked through the heart. His abilities include super-human strength, speed, senses, and healing, along with the very potent psychic powers of mind control and hypnosis. On top of this, Dracula can walk in the sunlight freely without being destroyed unlike his followers, as well as shape shift freely at night.

The Count also has sired a huge number of vampires across the earth, and can call upon any of them at any time to do his bidding, on top of having a very strong influence on other creatures of supernatural origin. He has also trained in almost every form of combat throughout his almost six hundred years of existence.

Originally appearing from (which comic, and company?): Dracula has appeared in a myriad of different comics from Marvel to the Buffy series. This version will be a fairly classical approach to the character, with some minor tweaks.

Fictional history of the character (as you're going to interpret it): Vlad started life as a nobleman and prince of the European country of Wallachia. He eventually gained the throne, and was known as a harsh ruler who executed those that resisted his wills. He also led bloody wars against the Ottoman Empire.

It was believed that he died on the field of battle in one such war, but this was a lie concocted to hide his true disappearance. In reality, Vlad was obsessed with immortality and world domination, and had discovered a way to it, but at a terrible price. Vlad’s soul was virtually shattered, becoming a creature of pure evil which could never die.

Vlad’s first attempt at gaining control of Europe came only a few years after his death. He visited his cousin, Vigo the Carpathian, a powerful sorcerer and new ruler of the country, and persuaded him to wage a bloody conflict over Eastern Europe which eventually led to Vigo’s assassination at the hands of his subjects.

After his failure with Vigo, Dracula, as he now called himself, decided the best course of action was a covert, long term approach to his rule. He set out to create a vampire army, which he did with ease, until the 1800s, when he attempted to penetrate and take over London. It was here that the Count first encountered a Hunter. But this was no ordinary hunter; it was the most famed of their kind, Van Helsing. Van Helsing foiled Dracula’s plot, at the end of which Dracula was believed to be killed.

The vampire lord persevered however, continuing to work in the shadows of the world, his influence stretching to all regions, and his vampire children walk among the citizens of every country.

Dracula is now a pivotal member of a society that seeks to shape Earth in their image, and will stop at nothing to do so.

Hero, Villain, or Walking the line?: Villain

List a few reasons why you chose this character: The game is really light on villains, and I want to expand the role of “The Ring” past what I’ve teased with the Turtles and V. They will be a huge threat to everyone in this Universe, and I want to start building that threat.

Write two complete sentences explaining what you can bring to this RPG: A great villain who can go toe to toe with basically everyone in our Universe. Also it’ll bring an insight into the mind of a “From the Pages of…” Villain.

How many days a week you intend on posting in the RPG: As many as I can. Posting will increase within the next few weeks as summer classes come to a close.

Please provide a small sample post as your character, at least three paragraphs and one line of dialogue in length:

The moonlight shines brightly against the relative blackness of the forest surrounding me. It has been too long since I’ve visited Britain, which is surprising considering what my associates and I have done to the country in the past twenty years. Still, I’ve never been able to completely feel comfortable here. After all, it was here I suffered my greatest defeat, but I will make sure that I do not suffer another one.

“Professor,” I smile, as a familiar presence rustles through the foliage behind me. “I’m glad you decided to grant me an audience.”

“Anything for you, master,” the skinny looking vampire replies. “Now, what do you require?”

I smile to myself. The vampire in front of me has always been one of my favorite creations. He was a genius in his own right, and it would have been a waste to let him die. Instead, he now serves The Ring as our premier criminal mastermind, and my most trusted advisor.

“We have a problem in Britain, as I’m sure you know,” I say with venom in my voice. “Forces move to dispatch Norsefire as we speak. We have dispatched assassins to deal with it, but I fail to trust in their abilities. I want you to find out who we are dealing with, and to make sure they are taken care of.”

“Very well, Count Dracula.”

I smile, “I knew I could count on you…Professor Moriarty.”
