Frozen 2

But is it trying to? It is very different from the first film. I am not saying that is a good or bad thing, but I think this one is fundamentally different in a way here having the same charm as the first film wouldn't have worked.

It being different than the first was a good thing overall. I want sequels to be different. I just felt in this case that the movie was just not as compelling.

Yet you went to see it opening weekend in a theatre.

Um. And why?
I watch every Walt Disney Animation Studios film. I would have waited for a DVd just like with the first movie, but no one in my country releases dvds/blu rays anymore.

I felt that the story was trying to do to much. It had too many plots and clearly had no idea what to do with Kristoff.

The story origin of Elsa's powers
Kristoff trying to proposal to Anna
Anna's insecurities
Elsa's embracing her purpose
The mystery of the enchanted forest and the Guardians of the woods
Olaf overuse as comedy relief

I honestly don't think it was an issue of them trying to do too much. I think this movie could easily have worked within the time frame they had. I just feel like the core story for many of the characters was just uninteresting. Kristoff I felt was especially wasted. That was a very schlocky common sequel type plot we see in movies, and it really took me out of the movie. For me, that was the type of plot line we see in a sequel where they have no ideas on how to handle a romantic subplot so they just slap that in there

I don't mind spoilers. What is the final shot and final piece of music played in the film?

Based on the few spoilers I have already read, I can make an educated guess about what I think (and would like) the final shot to be. How close am I?

The final shot is Elsa riding on her water/ice horse "into the unknown" with Into the Unknown playing (either her singing or the music in the score).

Am I right or close? Totally off? Somewhere in the zone?

A solid opening, $130.263m domestic.

With the holiday season F2 should have good legs with anywhere from a 3.5x to 4x OW multiplier which would be 455-520m (big range, but it should narrow a bit after we see weekday numbers and 2nd weekend numbers).
I'm hoping it can coast to 500m+ domestic and 900m to 1b overseas.
I'm really curious how it will do in Japan this time, it was such a phenomenon there doing $249m (#2 all time there and within a hair of #1 when, like domestic, the DVD release killed it's late run after it stayed in the top 10 for 17 weeks)

It adjusted up both domestically and internationally. It's opening was a lot more then solid, it is an all time opening. I don't know about your estimates, but the chances of it beating the first movie should be clear by the end of next weekend. Remember, Frozen had the crazies legs overseas.

I followed Frozen's boxoffice extensively and there were some amazing runs overseas the first time, but the ones that really stuck out were Japan and South Korea which were just insane.

South Korea opened to 7.6M and powered through to $76.7m, which was just phenomenal.
I see it opened in SK already this time and it's opening weekend this time is $31.97m.
Just a wee little bump for SK.:wow:

I'm just beginning to poke around the international numbers, but already seeing some increases.

Frozen did $48m in China total, F2 just opened in China to $53m. So already passed the first one in 1 weekend.

Just saw the movie thought it was good but i think the first movie is easily better. I think the first movie was funnier and also there was nothing even close in this movie to has catchy/ rememberable song wise has let it go was in the first movie.

You're in the right lane.

They never do explain why Rapunzel doesn't wear shoes.

Somebody online said Gothel didn't give her shoes because it would make her curious about the outside world.

I'm enjoying F2's boxoffice run, it seems so.... erratic.

After the preview numbers it looked like a 110-115m opening, then Friday came along and suddenly it was 130-140. After Saturday it was 125-127 and ended up 130.2m
Monday was a bit lower than predictions at 12.77m (was expected 13.5 to 14), but Tuesday exploded to 20.5m (+63% from Monday). Wednesday is now looking to be flat from Tuesday.

Estimates for the weekend seem to vary quite a bit, from 77m to 88m and Frozen 2 could be anywhere from 270m to 285m domestic after the upcoming weekend.

Gotta love holiday season boxoffice runs.

Saw it last night. I'll parrot what others are saying that this isn't as good as the first one. Some of the music felt forced. Also, the bond between Elsa and Anna seems to a little too over the top. I will say that Olaf's stories stole the show for me. Overall, it's enjoyable and I think it's hard trying to recreate what they did with the 1st movie even though I felt this was different enough.

And off topic, Moana > Frozen & Tangled. :o

I wonder what the rationale was to have Frozen 2 and Star Wars Episode 9 released in the same year in less than a month apart. Did Disney want to have its cake and eat it too?

Fixed. :o

I didn't understand Aladdin and Lion King out in the same year either.

2019 is Disney's A side of the record (Captain Marvel, Endgame, Aladdin, Lion King, Toy Story 4, Frozen 2 & Rise of Skywalker)
2020 as it looks now is it's B side (Black Widow, Eternals, Soul, Mulan, Artemis Fowl, Onward & Jungle Cruise)

They have enough material at this point to release **** every month if they desire.

Yeesh...I will totally agree with that. I have little or no desire to see Black Widow or the Eternals movie, honestly. Mulan especially looks...underwhelming. I think I'm just burnt out on the live action remake trend. Hopefully they don't realize how much a live action version of Frozen would make...
...did they hear me...?!

Literally all these movies except Artemis Fowl look or sound great so far. Mulan is my absolute favorite Disney movie and the remake looks like the best one Disney has done yet. Just a personal opinion.
