Brilliant.
I was wondering what explanation they were going to come up with, although there has always been from the beginning that simple idea that Ryan is simply insane. In that last episode, for a second, it felt to me that that whole thing of the chosen one might end up being true & it was something really mystical, divine, out of this world.
It's cool that they keep it grounded & basically show Ryan accepting the whole situation & just embracing it, he can just hang out with Wilfred just like he does it all the time, that's an awesome ending. I'm not quite sure if this would be a desirable outcome for other people, but at least, Ryan's okay with it & all is well.
He does seem to manage to balance it somewhere, although Jenna was a big let down, going back with Drew, good grief. In the end, still feel there's still something mystical about the whole thing, that he could imagine all of that in his head.
Hey, I just thought about it but, why does Wilfred the way Ryan sees him look like the guy performing the good god at the Flock of Grey Shepards? Ryan's real dad tells him who that guy is on the photo when Ryan recognizes him but there's no explanation as to why Wilfred looks exactly like him. Is it one of those repressed memories Wilfred talks about at the end, did he like see this guy as a kid and remembered he was acting the good god and then subconsciously, he made Wilfred look this way?
I read some thoughts on other forums, and there's also the possibility that Ryan is successful when he drinks the milkshake and basically, everything after is the afterlife, maybe. There are also some very valid points that some of the things Ryan found out when talking to his mom or in other ways, about the Flock, the gods, how could he possibly have known that if he imagined the whole thing in his head? OR Wilfred is really a god. ^^
A full rewatch is in order.
