FX's Wilfred

I liked Wilfred, but after Wilfred/Ryan basically killed his dad, the show has kind of jumped the shark for me.

I mean Ryan's dad wasn't a choir boy but the show is just getting really unsettling.

So glad this is back on, really love how weird it is. Anyone else been watching the final season? I really can't wait to see how this all ends and the cult stuff has me intrigued.

Apparently I don't get to watch it since the braintrust at Fox moved the last season to FXX. I guess that's my reward for watching the first three seasons. Thanks for nothing, ass holes.

Yeah but considering the crap quality and general unreliability of most uploads I may as well wait for it to pop up on Netflix. It's just the principle of the thing. And it isn't even 100% Fox's fault, they're responsible for the channel move but the carriers are keeping FXX as part of a premium sports package since FXX was previously Fox Soccer.

well i have HD downloads so maybe you should look harder.

lets make some bets... im pretty sure Ryan has been dead the whole time :lmao:

Maybe you shouldn't worry about it.

Well, I wasn't saying that negatively by any means... Just saying there is HD quality episodes out there...

if you don't want to discuss it, maybe you shouldn't talk about it.

I'm just saying, I watch the show with my mom and there's no way I can lug my pc all the way over there every week and I have no dvd burner so streams or DL is worth **** all, HD or not.

When someone shoots down an idea, it doesn't necessarily mean they just need to hear that option re-explained to them like they're five years old, it might also mean they've already explored it and it doesn't work for them.

The last season has started ok, just hope they come up with some answers soon.

my theory is that Wilfred is Jenna's brother who is mentally handicapped and believes he is a dog and everyone just pretends this is the case.

Ryan being all messed up and that doesn't even realise this but everyone thinks he has just taken a shine to her brother....BOOM!!!

What's interesting to me is the never really took the idea this far in the original Australian series and if I'm not mistaken there really wasn't any resolution there. I'm thinking he is schizophrenic or something like that but it just seems to obvious. I'm sure there will be some kind of dark twist none of us ever saw coming. That's one of the reasons I love this show

This **** is ****ing great!! OMG I am just loving it this year.

Just caught last week's episode. What a trip. I love how the previews still try and make it look light hearted but the show is pretty dark and weird now. I'm digging every minute of it. I wonder if this dual dog god think is just a bit of misdirection.

Man what a way to end the show. Truly amazing, I can't wait till I can go back and rewatch the whole series on Netflix. Am I the only one who watched this tonight? Would love to hear how people felt about it. This whole last season has been phenomenal but those last 2 episodes really hit ya in the feels. As a person that suffers from mental illness this show really connected with me and ending it like that was a beautiful thing

Brilliant.

I was wondering what explanation they were going to come up with, although there has always been from the beginning that simple idea that Ryan is simply insane. In that last episode, for a second, it felt to me that that whole thing of the chosen one might end up being true & it was something really mystical, divine, out of this world.

It's cool that they keep it grounded & basically show Ryan accepting the whole situation & just embracing it, he can just hang out with Wilfred just like he does it all the time, that's an awesome ending. I'm not quite sure if this would be a desirable outcome for other people, but at least, Ryan's okay with it & all is well.

He does seem to manage to balance it somewhere, although Jenna was a big let down, going back with Drew, good grief. In the end, still feel there's still something mystical about the whole thing, that he could imagine all of that in his head.

Hey, I just thought about it but, why does Wilfred the way Ryan sees him look like the guy performing the good god at the Flock of Grey Shepards? Ryan's real dad tells him who that guy is on the photo when Ryan recognizes him but there's no explanation as to why Wilfred looks exactly like him. Is it one of those repressed memories Wilfred talks about at the end, did he like see this guy as a kid and remembered he was acting the good god and then subconsciously, he made Wilfred look this way?

I read some thoughts on other forums, and there's also the possibility that Ryan is successful when he drinks the milkshake and basically, everything after is the afterlife, maybe. There are also some very valid points that some of the things Ryan found out when talking to his mom or in other ways, about the Flock, the gods, how could he possibly have known that if he imagined the whole thing in his head? OR Wilfred is really a god. ^^

A full rewatch is in order.

I took it like you said and it was his repressed memories in his subconscious mind. I like to thing it was real and that he learned to accept himself as not normal and was okay with that. I believe that's why they had Wilfred mention the subconscious memory. It's a really good message for people like myself with mental illness, we can accept our craziness and be happy

I stopped watching mid season 3 then last week I tried to start watching it again but things came up again. But I'll get around to it.

The whole series will be up on Netflix in a few months I'm sure. Then you can binge watch to your hearts content

I thought it was a great ending to a really crazy, trippy, series. I'm gonna miss it and its nuggets of wisdom.

Edit: Im sorry I just noticed there was language not allowed here in the article... its on vulture.com though... elijah talking about the finale

After it ended I can honestly say this is one of my favorite shows. So good. It sucks its over, but it really did get a good send out, the final episode tied up everything I wanted. I still wish it could have kept going on, and I've been talking it over with some friends and others who have enjoyed the show. What if they brought the show back in a few years. Sort of a spin-off but more so just a direct sequel.
I would love and could totally see it working, if we meet Ryan say like 10 years later. He now has a son and he doesn't see Wilfred all the time but when he does its almost like the two never part (not startling to Ryan or jumpy). Ryan realizes that his son is starting to see Wilfred, Ryan's Wilfred. And Ryan would either help him adjust to life with Wilfred or perhaps try to guide his son to a more sane life.
With the way the show ended Jenna's story, it sucks. I would have loved for her and Ryan to move on together and with the bit of fan wishing I gave above, it would have been great to see the two together with a kid. But, I think putting Ryan with Amanda might work better. Picture her being in on Ryan's type of crazy and how he sees Wilfred, she would be supportive of him and his kind of weird but she wouldn't actually be able to see Wilfred.
Having this sequel/spin off start off with Ryan's son in school when he first starts seeing Wilfred and not actually giving away his last name or who his parents are for like the first 2 episodes might be a cool way to kind of add skepticism as to is he Ryan's son or not. Idk, I think it could work. And seeing Ryan back with Wilfred doing his day to day stuff would be good enough for me, especially with no more "What is Wilfred" arcs tying the two down.
I would be open to a movie of the same.

Side note. I always pictured Willem Defoe on the show as like another friend of Wilfred's.
