G8: Still Just As Action-Packed!

Might have a boyfriend soon. Hopefully first 'date' this weekend. Also writing a gay superhero script that deals largely with fighting hate crimes against all. And now last night had a nightmare that at the time felt real and I feel prepares me even more for writing it.

I basically dreamt that I was standing beside my car in the parking lot at a festival when a couple cops came up and arrested me. I asked them what I did wrong. One of them told me I had been deemed a 'pariah.' A cop shoved me into the car while another filled out the information. I asked him again. And he showed me a list of names of companies and people saying I had affiliations with them. I didn't know anything on that list at all. Eventually they believed me and let me go. I woke up and looked up pariah (because for some reason I had forgotten what it even meant) and found it meant 'outcast.' Falsely arrested because I was deemed as being different.

When looking that up, I also stumbled upon this:

http://thenewcivilrightsmovement.co...ussia-anti-gay-laws/politics/2013/08/12/72958

Which is really scary and sad that this is going on still; people being arrested simply because they're gay.

ADDED: And I've just seen that 13 states in the US could also arrest me for being a 'pariah' with their anti-sodomy laws? Why isn't this catching more attention?

Because those laws were all overturned in 2003 in the case of Lawrence v. Texas.

They remain in 13 states. That's 25% of the United States.

And if you look online there are tons of recent stories about gay guys being arrested for showing affection in public, cops posing as gay guys to get guys back to their apartment (not prostitution) to have sex then arresting them. This hasn't been gotten rid of, people for some reason just think it has.

By the letter of the law, it's unconstitutional to enforce those old anti-sodomy laws. They were all overturned.

But what's written down and what's practiced in this country are sometimes two different things. Brown v. the Board of Education made it illegal to segregate schools by race back in 1954, but some schools still have segregated dances/proms/balls to this day.

That doesn't make what is happening in these states any less wrong. And still the scary thing is most people don't even know this still is going on. You ask the regular Joe on the street -- are anti-sodomy laws banned entirely from the United States so that you can't get arrested for being gay, they'd say yes when it's still present in 25%. That's kind of a major wake up call.

I just ended up writing a pretty long post and pressed the backspace by mistake ( oops.)

That is sad though, I think its something Chris Evans said, that I look forward to the day where 'gay' marriage is no longer 'gay'. Where equality is true to its title and there's no judgement or hate.'

It tends to be a generalisation that that time is soon, when in actuality it's a fair bit off, because one city state that is now 'excepting' overshadows the 9 others that still don't.

Anyway, I may have met someone too, well maybe. I really like this girl, I don't know if she likes me too though. I thought she did, until the last time we hung out and she was talking to my friend about finding someone, and she met someone when she went out in London for the weekend (it was just a bit of fun apparently, as the girl lives in London and she of course doesn't.) So yeah....She could have just been talking for sake of conversation, but I'm preparing myself to be friendzoned now. (Which is a shame considering it's been a really, really long time since I've liked someone.)

I wish you both well Scarletess and Ultimatehero! :yay:

...so someone yelled gay slurs at spideyboy and I earlier tonight. We weren't doing anything but getting out of the car. I honestly have no words right now.

And you don't need any words Marx... screw them.

As long as you and Spidey are healthy and happy, then what difference does it make. Let them have their childish slurs.

Stick and stones and all that.

Yeah, I am sorry to hear about the crap going on. There's no right or wrong way to deal with stuff like that; I curse back at them and get ready for a fight (nobody's chosen to back their **** up against me so far) but that's just me. Ignoring it is just as good.

from the amount of bile she was spewing you'd think Marx and I were holding hands, wearing rainbow tutu's, and making out on a Unicorn while listening to Cher... but all it took was us getting out of a car... and then she repeated herself on the walk back saying "look the ________'s are back"

all i can say, is i'd much rather be a "_________" than be a back-woods white trash hick who has nothing better to do but sit in a wal-mart parking lot for 20 min and do nothing but scream things at people

You've got to tune people like that out. Yes, ignorance like that is toxic, but being affected by it is something you can actually control. Let it go. No, you two didn't deserve it, but we can't change the whole world (or even one person) in a day. You're happy being with Marx - that's all that matters. Your relationship is stronger than the weak **** people throw your way.

we will get over it.. and be fine. But there are steps to processing it and dealing with it too. We are completely comfortable, but we also are not use nor should be use to hearing that. So it was a bit of a shock to our system

I'm not saying you should be or should get used to it. But ignorance is everywhere regarding everything. We've all had to deal with similar situations even if it had nothing to do with our sexual preferences. And, yeah, you can choose to just let it go. It's a lot healthier that way... if it's something you dwell on its only going to lead to cynicism and, potentially, ignorance on your own behalf. Like judging her. Yes, she was being verbally abusive, but it shouldn't make you feel better to try and tear her down, too. It's a choice to take the higher road.

thanks for the advice, but like i said, we're good.

And yeah... it does make me feel better tearing her down. But I also don't need to, thus why we said and did nothing about it and completely ignored her. She did all the tearing down herself for me. :cwink:

I'm glad you're good. But "we're" implies you're speaking for more than one person. Marx is a free thinker. :cwink:

How sexist was it of me to assume the individual at the outset was a man.

Very, PR.

You're as bad as the woman in question. You should feel ashamed.

The whole situation over the weekend has definitely shaken me. I have never had that happen before. I have not had the easiest of times coming out to various people (as everyone well knows) but this was the first time some random stranger verbally attacked me like that. As spideyboy said, neither of us responded to it in any way. We just ignored this girl and her friends. I kind of feel sad for these people that they apparently had nothing else better to do than sit in the parking lot of a Walmart out in the middle of nowhere yelling gay slurs at people.

The ironic part about this (if there is one) is that they were listening to Katy Perry's "Roar" while screaming these slurs.

How did they know you were gay anyway?

Two guys can't get out of a car together these days?

that's the scary part to me... because i passed it off at first as just an idiot labeling anyone. But when marx returned to get the car she restarted it all again.

She seemed to of been sure that she knew "what" we are... Could it of been that we were wearing semi trendy nice clothes rather than overalls and a duck dynasty t-shirt? could be... I've heard people judge and assume things on much less than that before...

or worse case scenario... are people spreading gossip about us? We don't really know or talk to anyone in this small town, and live sorta anonymously in an apartment complex. ?

that for me is the scary part... if there's rumors and ignorant hicks... that can make for a bad combo.

(and for the record i was just wearing a button up from american eagle and jeans (no bright colors) and marx was wearing a grey/white/and black horizontal striped sweater... nothing flashy or "stereotypical" from either of us.

I think it was because of our clothes and the fact that we don't look like neanderthals. At least that's my hope...

Frankly, if it is wrong to ask an assaulted woman "what were you wearing," none of us here should have to answer to that question either.

very true.

Ive now however decided that if that ever happens again... my phone will be out recording it.
