Since there is a costume thread I'd like to switch gears to the Amazon culture which Diana is supposed to be the best example of. How do people/fans see them? How are they reflected through Diana? How does being the crown princess affect her behavior? Is too much "pefection" a detriment to good characterization and conflict, both for WW herself and the Amazons, or does the MOS-verse need that kind of "fantasy/fairy tale" aspect? Does anyone, like me, think there is a good midway point between Mary Sue-land and Secret Dystopia? Should Diana be saguine but unfamiliar with man's world? Should she be a bright eyed optimist that bends all those around her to her world view?
Thoughts?
I'd like to see Themyscira depicted as a true paradise. Its residents excel in all areas, whether warrior skills, science, art, medicine, weaving or cooking. And their society should reflect continued advancements since the day that it was created. If Themyscira was created 1,000 years ago, then I don't want to see then restricted to technology, architectural designs, fashion designs, etc from that period. They should have continued to devlop and innovate, potentially with some similar advancements to the rest of the world, but also with their own advancements.
While Diana may be their Princess, I don't believe Diana or Hippolyta would truly "rule" over their subjects. I imagine that Diana would participate in all the same chores and recreational activities as the other Amazons, with perhaps one or two extra lessons about "queendom" from her mother.
I would like to see some naivety from Wonder Woman when she first ventures to man's world. I would also like to see a natural curiosity for man's world, it's people, it's past-times, it's past, etc. I would also like Wonder Woman to be open and trusting. The lasso of truth doesn't compel Wonder Woman to always be honest, she is honest because it is part of her character.
But, I don't want Wonder Woman's good nature to be too far-fetched or to be depicted as stupidity. I don't want her to be mystified by the "tiny people in the magic boxes" or confounded by "horseless carriages". But, an exclamation of surprise about the wonders of ice cream would be A-OK. I don't want to see Wonder Woman being depicted as so naive that she would be taken advantage of by others. And while I want to see Wonder Woman shocked by some aspects of man's world, like domestic violence, homelessness, etc I don't want it to dampen her positive outlook on life. If anything, it should motivate her to work harder to improve man's world in whatever way that she can positively contribute to society.
