It's canon that Cap is pro lgbt I'm happy to say :)

One of his best friends was a gay man. There was a story where the Red Skull took control of his friend and spouted a lot of bigoted anti gay garbage and Cap clearly stated that he's 100% pro lgbt and has no hatred or prejudice toward lgbt people

Not an imaginary story, not a what if...what as the Avengers face their most dastardly foe...The Auditor

Auditor:"So you made a new suit of high tech armor...did you claim it?
Stark:"Um no"

Auditor:"Cap this is the second time we declared you dead and you still for get to fill out your EZ-Die tax forms letting us know you were dead for part of the year."

Auditor:"Spider-man I don't think you can claim the many Spider-women as dependents"

I want to read about lgbt characters. As a lesbian comic book fan i want to read about lgbt characters and relationships as those are the kind of stories and characters I care about and enjoy reading about most of all

If there wasnt any lgbt content in comic books I honestly wouldn't buy comics. If DC and Marvel weren't pro lgbt i wouldn't support either of them with my hard earned money

I only knowingly support things which are pro lgbt. I'm delughted that DC and Marvel are so pro lgbt and I hope that they always remain so. I hope as many comic books they publidh as possible feature lgbt content with lgbt characters and relationships both among the major characters and supporting characters because those are the kind of charactets i personally care about and truly enjoy reading as an lgbtfan of comics

I know many of my fellow gay, lesbian, bisexual and transgender fans feel the same way

If there weren't any lgbt characters in comic books, both as major and supporting characters I just wouldn't buy comic books. They're the kind of characters I relate to best personally and care about and that make me happy to read about

It's one of the reasons Cap is :awesome:

He respects and accepts all people in the world, no matter what their race or sexuality may be

And smacks bigots and tyrants like the Red Skull in the face when they try to oppress others

Mysti, do you have a text file you just copy that post from every time or do you type it up again? The first might save you some time.

Well I wouldn't stop buying comics or graphic novels (the limited amount I actually do buy) if they didn't feature LGBT characters- it isn't the be all and end all for me and the stories are brilliant regardless. However if they openly opposed gay rights that would be something else, thankfully they do not.

Somehow, and this is just a hunch, I don't think anyone is going to feature men fighting over c.ock in comic books :whatever:

:wow:

It won't?

Darn it those spoilers I read about the next issue of Earth 2 lied to me :o

I'm with Mysti, as a straight person I only buy comics with straight people in 'em. If there weren't straight people in comics, I wouldn't buy them, because who cares about those non-straight characters anyway?

That's fair enough

Speaking personally having well written lgbt characters and relationships to read about is whats most important to me in comic books so if they didn't feature lgbt characters at DC and Marvel i wouldn't buy or read their comic books at all. I just wouldn't be intetested in buying them if there weren't any lgbt characters appearing in the stories

The main reason I love comic books like Batwoman so much is because it stars a well written lesbian character and i want many many more characters like her in the DCU

It would be wrong if there were no straight characters in comics just as it would be wrong if there were no lgbt characters in comic books

But it would not be acceptable for their to only be straight characters in comic books. Their should be people of all sexualities in comic books and they should be portrayed positively and written well

If there weren't any lgbt characters in comic books i would have no interest in reading them.

Yeah but even percentage wise, DC is a bit skewed with the amount of heros who are gay...

Anyway the main argument here is not having LGBT characters, it's if you take an existing character or platform and force it to be a LGBT character...and further, doing this as a sales stunt.

You appreciate though that "LGBT" people are a very small minority, right? It'd be one thing if sexuality was 50 / 50, but by most estimates, it's more like 3.5 / 96.5. LGBT characters are going to be rare by nature. You're going to miss out on a lot of things with that logic.

There aren't that many lgbt characters in the DCU yet but I hope there will be many more lgbt heroes in comic books over the years to come. One of the things I love about the new DCU is how they're featuring more and more lgbt characters and i hope they continue to introduce many more new ones

There's no such thing as having too many lgbt characters.

Yeah but even percentage wise, DC is a bit skewed with the amount of heros who are gay...

There aren't nearly enough yet but I am grateful to DC for having the lgbt heroes they already do

And I hope we'll be seeing lots more from them

I agree that its better to create new characters who are lgbt rather than change old ones sexuality

So many facepalms in this thread.. so so many..

A.) Please show me where you got this information from.. please. 3.5% of the population? No way; try upwards of 10% - then I'd give you the benefit of doubt. B.) All of us gays don't wear our sexuality on our sleeves. All of us are not "out" enough. There's no way you can underestimate how many LGBT people are in this world.. :whatever:

 Comic books are sold for profit, correct? DC and Marvel are brilliant to know that the gay community accounts, approximately, for $790 billion in planned spending in 2012. Not to mention pleasing a large segment of the community, they are also increasing sales with people that might not have been fans before. Like me. This will be the first DC title I've EVER picked up. :) :hrt:

I don't see how all the fan boys out there are crying about new story lines, and new directions. Everyone is so afraid of change, it's sickening. If you have a problem - don't pick up the title. It's that simple. :whatever:

The thing is most people are not afraid of change. Just a vocal few. Most people are not going to stop buying, or object to buy, a comic book purely on the grounds it features a main character who happens to be gay. In fact many people will find the new slant interesting without being dumb enough to think the comic is now going to become all about gay relationships and all that.

And I am with you in that doing this will bring in more custom than it possibly risks losing. I buy Batman GNs and occassionally Spider-man; but for the interest of seeing how the proposal from Northstar was played out I recently bought astonishing X-men (great it was too) and will be buying frequently now to see how it all works out.

I don't see people protesting much about this Earth 2 move to the point were it wll be THE factor which puts them off.

I really hope you enjoy it especially as its your first DC comic book ever :)

I'm keeping my fingers crossed that the new Alan Scott is going to be really well written and fun to read

Didn't we have a debate with this guy a couple nights ago?

For those of you who don't read Shortpacked!, the guy on the right is gay and the entire comic strip takes place in San Francisco. :lmao:

Remember this is the new DC comics. :) Regardless of the sexual orientation of any of the characters, on anything that doesn't involve a human dressing as a flying rodent, be prepared to waste your money on a lot of painful-to-read crap.

I think we should start a pool on the next username Schumacherfan/___bl_st_r uses next. Truly he must be a genius on par with Michael Holt to keep slipping by the admins like this. ;)

So why didn't you pick up any of the other DC books that had gay characters in it? I mean, it's not like this is the first.

I'd recommend Batwoman, Birds of Prey, Flash, Legion of Superheroes, Stormwatch and Demon Knights as well written DC comic books featuring lgbt characters that be worth checking out as well as Earth 2

*Before a nude criminal*
"I want it, Jay! Gimme!"
"I don't even want it! Stop hitting me!"
"MINE! :alan:"

I would read it :o

True but they're publishing some good stuff as well

And James Robinson is normally a good writer not counting Cry for Justice.

I've got faith he'll do a good job writing Alan and the comic book in general :)

Hopefully my optimism won't be cruelly crushed when i read the comic book

How is it physically possible to have never met a gay person in San Francisco?

The only way it wouldn't be is if the made one of the big heavies like Superman or Batman gay and knew they would be taking a huge sales hit by doing so. And even, they may still be looking to feed off this 'boldness' for better and broader sales in the future. If WB were a philanthropic, non-for-profit organization, maybe it wouldn't be a marketing stunt. :O
