Everybody racist. Some more so than others.

You mean UK right?

The BNP are a tiny fringe party; not so much racist as Islamophobic but I take your point. They are repulsive, but not taken seriously by the vast majority of the population. Race crimes are also severley (but thankfully) rare here. The BNP are dying fast and even then they play on Islamic extremism and overpopulation rather than irrational hatred of black people.
Yeah, I meant UK. And isn't there still some racism alive against Pakistani immigrants?

There is prejudice against Pakistani immigrants (and anybody who happens to also be of middle-eastern descent but who Far-Right morons take to be Pakistani) but it is as I said often more to do with the stupid association of all such people with Islamic extremism than with their race.

Anyway we are getting a bit off topic aren't we?

As a black person, I think you're being ironically hypocritical.

All that other stuff doesn't matter. All that matters is that some people are being denied their rights by others. All that other crap is just a change in scenery.

Also, is it only homosexuality in front of children or is it any? I'm assuming the former cuz otherwise you wouldn't have bothered with the distinction. Mmmmmm that's good Hypocrysy. :awesome:

I agree that no one should be denied rights. gay people should be able to get married as same as anyone else. What i am trying to say about racism being different is that it not something you can chose to hide one day and expose another. If you needed to work at a job that was inhospitable to gays then you could do it to feed your family. Racism does not allow that luxury.

As far as the children comment I meant that some people have moral objections to homosexuality due to religious beliefs. Same as someone doing Wician or Satanic rituals which I might object to being done in front of my children without my consent.

The crux about homosexuality is weather it is a genetic disposition or a choice like a religion. I am leaning towards genetic but I sure would like the science to back up my guess.

How does someone express homosexuality in front of children? By having sex in front of them? Heavy petting and dry humping in public? Because I think that's something most parents would object to heterosexual couples doing in front of their children as well.

Just two dudes kissing would be an expression of homosexuality.

Not that there's anything wrong with that.

That's not really a fair comparison, since America is incredibly diverse, especially if you consider all the different white ethnicities, who have a history of hating each other. England is predominately English, Scotland is predominately Scottish, etc.

That's nothing kids don't already see in cartoons. Granted, it's usually played for comedy in those cases.

My keyword was "unduly". I'm talking if chaps and feathered boas were in the mix in front of kids. Same like erotic pole dancing or something no matter who's doing it. If Mr and Mr Jones are holding hands or hugging in front of kids I don't think that presents any problems for kids.

Unless there's a Pride Parade going on or you're walking through the Castro/Village/West Hollywood/wherever on Halloween, there's a very slim chance the gay dudes you pass by on the street are walking around in feathered boas.

Really, what it seems like you're saying is you don't want gay people doing any outlandish sexual stuff in front of kids that'd you'd also object to straight people doing in front of kids. In other words, your objections are addressed to "people."

So wait, Green Lantern is now gay?

A slightly less popular Green Lantern in an alternate universe that none of us really care about...

Then what was the point?

To get people talking since homosexuality is still a big deal to some people. Thus drawing attention to the book and DC in general. The same goes for Northstar's upcoming wedding at Marvel. Similar deals for the deaths of Supes or Cap, introducing black Spidey, etc.

Because the writer wanted to write a gay character.

If they want to make a difference, they should make a real difference by making it Superman or Batman.

If it's something that should be seen as a normal choice, then they should just do it and not announce it.

Still seems too 'safe'....aside from a relatively low-risk marketing gimmick, it's really not an impactful move if it's someone so minor.

Making Jimmy Olsen gay would've been a more daring move. At least then it'd be someone from the mainstream universe that non-readers could identify.

It should have been a real main character...like Supes, Bats, or Wonder Woman, if they were out to make a 'statement'.

Making a statement and committing corporate suicide are two different things.
