Yeah that podcast with Anthony is what we were talking about last page. Yes the whole "War movie" thing has gotten out of hands of some BvS fans lashing out at any studio that is not Warner Brothers calling everything else, "bland", "dumbed down" or "kiddie friendly". This was never about tone, it was about what so many of us have said was Edwards problem, characters. And it seems like they added a lot more, so I hope it works.

Me too.

My boy JJ has no faults. :o

In all seriousness a movie can live through a lot when you know how to make people care about the character. I love me some lightsabers, X-wings and mechnical breathing. But it is Luke, Rey, Leia, Han, Chewie, Finn, Kylo, Vader, R2, and others who make me love Star Wars.

Yup.

And why is Jaws still so revered? It ain't because of the plastic, fake shark.

For all of JJ Abrams faults he is a character focused filmmaker and that's why I am a fan. Second unit can handle big visual effects scenes but it's pretty damn hard to teach a director how to have heart and decent characterizations in his/her films.

Hilariously true.

Yep. I'd say that's almost everyone's true reason for loving those films. It's what JJ nailed so perfectly. Hence why I carry his quote from almost 4 years back. It was not the Falcon flying around that got me emotional in TFA, it was moments like Rey grabbing the lightsaber in the forest, Kylo facing his father, Rey facing Luke, the small moments with BB-8 and Rey. Rey's intro, and so many others. That's what makes films so special. And what JJ did with that went to the root of what makes Star Wars so magical.

I agree about JJ. He really cared about the characters and that's what made TFA so special.

Rogue One, on the other hand - I am looking forward to the action there (as I really want to see Gareth's war vision there), but there has to be some consideration for the characters, even if they most probably die by the end of the film. Watching Godzilla has me worried, as there wasn't even one character I cared about in this movie. Hope the re-shoots solved this problem.

I am wondering, though, do you think scenes will be cut from the trailers (similarly to Suicide Squad) or they have simply added more scenes to the film without cutting existing ones?

Its not Edwards war vision. The movie was always a war movie. And rarely do you shoot a lot of reshoots and not replace scenes.

Sure, but he directs the whole process so seeing what's on screen has largely to do with his input on it.

As for the re-shoots, I hope it's not butchered in the editing room as much as SS was.

This is LF and Disney. Not WB. I doubt it is "butchered" whether it is good of not.

Bingo. These re-shoots are aiming to fix Edward's flaw as a filmmaker. Whether or not they were able to do so will wait to be seen.

Has anyone seen the aualnauts star wars parodies? Omg

I will never see c3po in the same light. He will forever be known as Creepio

Stay on target! #RogueOne blasts into UK cinemas on December 15. All wings report in...

Awesome to read the UK is getting RO a day early.

Seeing TFA at midnight last year at my local cinema was electric.

Gareth Edwards reveals new details about Rogue One's "working class" villain

While speaking with USA Today, ROGUE ONE director Gareth Edwards spilled a few details about the galaxies newest villain, including his working-class roots.

"It feels like if the Empire ever have a job vacancy, they go to the Royal Shakespeare Company to headhunt people. I like the idea that Ben’s character was much more working-class and rose in the ranks through sheer force of personality and ideas."

Many of the top officers in the Empire, such as Grand Moff Tarkin, were portrayed as upper-class types and Gareth Edwards recalls Mendelsohn asking if he should adopt "a very posh English accent." Edwards shot that idea down as he preferred that Krennic, the man in charge of the advanced weapons research wing of the Imperial military, not "be a part of that boys club." Unfortunately that working-class background leads to Mendelsohn's character hitting a "brick wall in the hierarchy where they won’t let him in the club and it’s going to turn into a them-or-us situation: either Krennic or Tarkin and the others."

Interesting. I wonder how much, if at all, they will explore that dynamic with Tarkin and the others in the movie.

I was the opposite. I had to avoid TFA over here as I was going to New York just before Xmas, so we saw it in a cinema just off Times Square. One of the best cinema experiences I've had.

Is it too early to know when the review embargo will be lifted?

Way too early. Expect the week of. It is what happened with TFA.

I don't think I ever commented on the final trailer, it was excellent, needed more Vader but overall very well paced with some great visuals from the Island battle and the Walker coming though the town like the tank in SPR was fantastic.

These two images in particular caught my eye.

Where are the tickets???? I really want them to finally go on sale!

MSW said they heard the first week of November. I've heard dates floating around of November 4th, or 7th. I'm sure it will be soon though.

Also, hopefully, if Ward is right, we'll probably get it announced on the Star Wars Show on Wednesday.
