Regarding Leia, they could also use the actress who voiced her on Rebels.

They could use me. I don't wear a bra, George!

My guess is the 28 minute preview was indeed chopped up and truncated in places. It seems highly unlikely to me that they wouldn't at the very least firmly establish Jyn's character in the first act of the film.

There is no doubt of that. But still I hope it works out. But yeah it's not fair to judge all of that on a quarter of the film chopped up. it's just the long concern I've had with Edwards when it comes to characters, hopefully it's nothing.

Quint from AICN also put up a review of the footage. He also somewhat criticizes the pace and performance of Felicity Jones.

Or simply directed by Edwards. :hehe:

Y’know, the thing about Felicity Jones, she’s got lifeless eyes, black eyes, like a doll’s eyes. When she comes after ya, she doesn’t seem to be livin’...until she bites ya, and those black eyes roll over white, and then....aww, then you hear that terrible high-pitch screamin’, the silver screen turns red, and in spite of all the poundin’ and the hollerin’, the British actresses all come in and rip ya to pieces…

Here's to swimming with bow-legged women.

Did anyone confirm Vader in the 28 minutes?

I'm still confused as to what his role will be in this movie...

Apparently in the creatures featurette there is (Major Spoiler)

A sculpt of a bald human looking figure with a breathing apparatus and no arms or legs in the background with also next to it some concept art of the same thing

Although this did come from a reddit post of someone claiming they managed to get this information so take it with a grain of salt for time being.

I can see them getting actor who have similar builds and facial structures to the original actors, which makes it easier for the ILM artists to recreate the 'you know whos' and change their faces, especially the lovely cheekbones and high forehead of Guy Henry.

Okay I watched those clips. God, they're terrible. And I'm surprised and sad to say this. I'm serious. I did not go in wanting to think that or expect anything less than at worst it being okay or me feeling indifferent. I didn't think I would have a legitimate worrying and bad reaction to it. That Jyn/Cassian ship clip was prequel level baffling bad. "Trust goes both ways."

Wut

I couldn't ****ing believe it. What was that situation? It was just baffling. BAFFLING. I got it. Jyn found a gun and won't give it to Cassian because she's dangerous and unpredictable I guess. Baffling in terms of what the **** they were thinking. It was so awkward. That was conflict???

The only thing I liked was that action clip with that end gag of the droid. But that music sounded generic. And they REUSED THE SAME EXACT GAG FROM TFA!!!! Man thinks woman is in trouble, but sees woman can take care of herself so man doesn't help, subverting the female character. It was funny the first time with Rey. It sucked in Suicide Squad and it sucks here.

This is the fourth time we're getting a scene where everyone is standing around talking about a Death Star. That feels like such a reshoot. It's so hopeful though! Sure, it feels like cynical corporate meddling but the tone is just so hopeful!

I get context but if they're trying to market this movie to best represent it, they're not doing a good job. I should say, "Wow, what a great clip that stands on its own that gives me a nice picture and gets me excited about the rest of the scene!"

I originally thought we'd get a mediocre movie at worst, but I never thought I'd be worried about the quality now. Is it still a gritty war movie like that first trailer or is it a more hopeful traditional SW film? It feels like it's trying to still be one thing but is going to be another. I sense a Suicide Squad situation.

I'm concerned how people are talking more about Easter Eggs and little details than the story and actual substance. Not if blue milk shows up or if we see a part of Darth Vader's head. I get spoilers, but are they not allowed to even mention at least thoughts on the substantive stuff? When I was looking a couple days ago, I just saw very superficial tweets. Is this what SW means to people?

None of that is reassuring. It has positive things that Edwards has always been good with. Action and cinematography. When he talks about character and dialogue delivery that's where I'm worried. This should be more talked about.

Star Wars means to people whatever they want it to mean. That's the point of something like Star Wars, or any movie or work of fiction. Some people just love, and can't get enough of, the nostalgia, Easter eggs and little connections. So what?

I'm sorry it's not your cup of tea though. I genuinely feel bad because of just how much I love the look and am looking forward to it. It would suck to feel as disappointed as you, given how big Star Wars has been in my life since I was a kid.

Can. Not. Wait!

Bold words, Jones. Prequel dialogue was unrealistic hyperbole. This is common dialogue in what seems like a melodramatic response. There's a difference - and still you're claim of it being so is dependent on the context around the scene which we don't have.

Clearly you don't understand beats within a scene. That's likely the beginning of a new scene. Dialogue goes back and fourth escalating conflict over itself. You start small and you grow from there - wait for the context.

TFA and SS were 100% a gender role joke. RO scene looked more like a "oh **** you're outnumbered and outgunned" joke. She had a team of Stormtroopers on her ass there. Way different than the other situations you gave.

This movie's logline is literally about them stealing the plans for the Death Star. I'd give you the argument for TFA for being unoriginal (even when that was a deliberate homage - still one I thought was lazy) but the Rebels learning about the Death Star is the entire plot of this film.

Great, so you were against the film to begin with. Suicide Squad looked bad from the get-go. Flashy lights and catchy music didn't fool the more serious movie watchers, while the trailers for Rogue One still don't necessarily sell it one way or the other. Which is a good thing.

That's because easter eggs are the only things we CAN talk about at this point - that and vague, out-of-context dialogue which is apparently "prequel level" writing to you.

:whatever:

oooooohhhh baby!

Oh hell ya!

Not sure how I feel about that clip. Its a bit cheesy and the line delivery (which is an issue Ive had with Felicity for a while now)isnt the best and I dont like the new comer to the Alliance giving the seasoned Rebel Alliance adults a talking to. I feel like that pep talk speech should have come from Bail Organa.

But Ill hold back final judgement. I need to see this stuff in context before I really decide whether Jyn earned that moment.

:mrk::wow:

I wonder how he gets ****ed up so bad that he needs a bacta bath...Ill be ecstatic if we get to see a battle damaged Vader in battle with part of his suit and mask ripped away. Sith eyes and scars on display. Just wrecking Rebels soldiers.

Jyn is still my main concern. But in that clip it's hardly baffling or PT bad by any means. Not near the strength of TFA or ESB but out of context I have no idea. All of the 30 minute preview critics have clearly said this feels like no other SW film before it and has a gritty war feel. That is not going to be a problem. But characters, yeah they may be the lesser point. I still think the film will be good, but not as great as TFA. We shall see though, I'm always open minded with this.

It was clear from Godzilla that Gareth Edwards wasn't able to get really great acting performances out of his cast. Not to mention, the film gets rid of its best actor in the first half hour.

However, I didn't hate any of the clips either. Then again, if Doctor Jones had a problem with them that doesn't really make him wrong. It just means he didn't like or care for them.

Yeah, the gag with Jyn Erso does come off a lot like the Rey thing, like they really have to oversell how this petite woman can handle herself in a fight and beat down a bunch of Stormtroopers. And yeah, I can understand Darth's problems with it.

At the same time, I can also probably argue that girls and women have felt their gender was maybe under-represented in these types of films for years where guys are always getting the win and looking cool and getting the duke over the bad guys. So maybe you can argue this is a bit of pointed payback. But whatever.

Sometimes I think people get way too defensive about any negativity that might come out regarding one of their movies here.
