Rogue One General Rogue One News/Speculation/SPOILER Thread - Part 4

It was clear from Godzilla that Gareth Edwards wasn't able to get really great acting performances out of his cast. Not to mention, the film gets rid of its best actor in the first half hour.

However, I didn't hate any of the clips either. Then again, if DarthSkywalker had a problem with them that doesn't really make him wrong. It just means he didn't like or care for them.

Yeah, the gag with Jyn Erso does come off a lot like the Rey thing, like they really have to oversell how this petite woman can handle herself in a fight and beat down a bunch of Stormtroopers. And yeah, I can understand Darth's problems with it.

At the same time, I can also probably argue that girls and women have felt their gender was maybe under-represented in these types of films for years where guys are always getting the win and looking cool and getting the duke over the bad guys. So maybe you can argue this is a bit of pointed payback. But whatever.

Sometimes I think people get way too defensive about any negativity that might come out regarding one of their movies here.
I am curious. When did I talk about this stuff? :funny:

On the Doctor Jones front. He has been complaining about Disney Star Wars for a year now. And in the, "well the prequels were actually creativity" kind of way. So, yeah. :woot:

I won't make any judgements until I see the completed film, but it wouldn't surprise me if Felicity Jones isn't engaged with the material all that much. I mean you look at some of the amazing performances Ron Howard has been able to get out of the actors he's worked with over the years, yet Jones wasn't especially great in Inferno this year. The script wasn't great, and neither was the film, but it could also be that blockbusters just aren't her thing.

I don't know, I'm going to keep an open mind and I suspect there might be some powerful stuff with her and Mads.

It is going to really annoy me if she is bad, considering who else was up for the role.

Frankly Felicity has never really grabbed me regardless of the role. None of her performances stick with me. They just...are. They exist. They are competent and get the job done. But she doesnt make me feel anything.

Oh yeah, Maslany and Mara are on my absolute Wishlist for any future SW films. You could put either one in something like a Mas Amedda spin off and I'd still see it at least 7 or 8 times.

That's right it was Maslany and Mara. Yeah they probably would have been better. But I could see this being a drawback of Rogue One. Jyn as a okay character, not bad, not good. But still I will give her the full chance when I see the film.

Either of the Mara sisters being in a star wars film would make me happy. Maslany too.

**** it, do a film with three female leads and cast all three.

I think she might have a winner with A Monster Calls, but yeah, while I don't think she's ever been especially bad I haven't been "wowed"by anything she's done.

A lot of it might depend on her scenes with Mads and how they play out.

You mean the dinner sequence on the Death Star? :o

Remind me again who else was up for it?
Rooney Mara, my #1 choice. Seeing the character, it is more annoying she didn't get the role. She can be properly hard, even with her size. Dragon Tattoo proved that.

Tatiana Maslany, another obvious choice.

Also Mackenzie Davis, another fantastic choice.

I adore Felecity and hope she does well. But she does seem a bit too doe-eyed here. She is definitely missing the physicality and fierceness of Daisy.

:highfive:

They need to just cast them as sister bounty hunters ruining Boba's life. Or maybe save one of them for the eventual Luke movie.

Yeah I agree. I would love to see any of those girls pick up a role in a galaxy far far away one of these days.

Sorry I mixed you two up.
