...just got home.

Main points I need to state;

-f' the naysayers, that CG cameo was delicious (more RDJ in Civil War, less Flynn in Tron Legacy)

-best space battle scene ever, what I have dreamed of with current technology and SW merging [the murdering of the Star Destroyer and then using a ship to 'push it', holy genius

-great characters and surprisingly funny

-only thing that rubbed me was the title card thing, no scroll was ok

-that Vader scene, holy *****.

For once in a long time I'm actually happy you enjoyed the film antsman haha

The CG characters threw me off a little, but later on I just embraced it. The perfect voice acting helped with that.

I hardly hear anyone talking about Saw so was he forgettable? Was he odd? Was he just ok? Just curious because honestly that was one of my very few concerns going into this, his character.

Hey if it's a step up from Tron Legacy, that's a good thing

I liked him, but it was a weird performance. Forrest may have been on crack.

Saw is definitely odd, but not forgettable. Some people hated Whitaker's take, I really liked it.

Im listening to the score and "Star Dust" is such a sad track. Is that the piece of music that plays after [blackout]the Death Star attacks Jedha? [/blackout]

I haven't heard the soundtrack yet, but that is [BLACKOUT]Jyn's nickname given to her by her father[/BLACKOUT]. So that is probably the opening scene's music.

I don't think any other SW movie announced the names of the planets they visit in title cards. I didn't even thought about it during the movie. I liked it.

They had to do it because they went to like 5 planets in the first 15 minutes. Some literally fore a couple of minutes. :funny:

Damn, I'm still rotating scenes and music from the movie. I think I'm gonna watch it again soon.

Going for round two this morning!

Wasn't all that happy with the first act, pacing/script wise, but the film gained it's composure in the 2nd act and just knocked it out of the park in the 3rd. I think that having cleaned up some of the character development in the first half would have given more weight to the ending [BLACKOUT](specifically each death)[/BLACKOUT], but it was still a very good film. In fact, it's slightly surreal to think I may have enjoyed the first standalone movie more than the first OT-sequel. [BLACKOUT]If you had told me that one of my favourite Star Wars scenes ever, especially one involving Darth Vader, was going to come in a 2016 quasi-prequel that George Lucas had no involvement in I'd have slapped you. That hallway scene towards the end adds so much emphasis to every single "holy sh-- it's Vader" scene in the original trilogy. That is why everyone shakes in fear when he enters a room.[/BLACKOUT]

[BLACKOUT]Even if he wasn't dead[/BLACKOUT], it has been almost 40 years. :funny:

I can't understand people's complaints about Tarkin or Leia thought both their CGI was amazing. I went in expecting Tarkin for maybe a few lines but he plays a major role in the story more so then I would have thought.

I guess I should have guessed after reading Catalyst he would have more of a role in it then I thought before going to the movie. With Leia though I didn't think they were going to show her face.

They showed her back and her turn to the guy who hands her the plans. I was like well that's it but when she turned to show her face my whole theater erupted.

I was freaking out how well the CGI on her was done.

The only CG I had a problem with throughout the entire movie was the Admiral Ackbar character in the meeting scene. I know they partly used practical with him but something with his face in that scene was off. Not sure if it was cause of his skin coloring or what. He is fine later in the movie during the battle.

Going to see it again here in a few hours.

Was anyone else caught off-guard how dark the film was? It really feels like a dark age with the Empire ruling the Galaxy. Oppression, death, insane destruction, desperation. I never experienced anything like it in any Star Wars film before Rogue One. It felt fresh and really made the Galaxy Far Away a living breathing world in a very gritty, believable way.

I just hope Rogue One makes satisfying money and doesn't scare people away. I want more gloomy stuff like this.

That was notable to me. I stayed out of most of the discussion leading up to the film, so I had no real read on the tone. The 'war' aspect of Star Wars seemed more on display than any other entry. The desperation of the RA was palpable. It did tremendous things for the movie's atmosphere.

Like someone mentioned earlier here, it's a really good job at creating tension on the main plot point even though you know what's aware of what happens going in.

It was what I was expecting before news of the re-shoots got a little worried the mouse would not let be this dark
Glad Disney let the movie be what it was

This, I did the same and it was very noticeable. I have to wonder how kids must have reacted to this.

So, way back in the 80's I got one of the Star Wars BTS books. One of the things I loved in it was they showed a matte painting for Vaders castle on Moustafar they never used. Now almost 35 years later...
We finally got to see it!!

I wasn't caught off guard, because this is what I was looking forward to. I'm not a "it's gotta be dark to be mature"-type of people, but I love the Rebels tv series, yet it constantly has the problem that as a show aimed at kids, it's always full of victories and happy endings. We hear the Empire are tyrants, but we don't see much of it. For example, when they burned Tarkintown (I think was the name) in Rebels, it was clear the Empire captured everyone. In this film, they'd have made sure everyone burned to death, because that is really what lengths the Empire will go to. It's a war film, and I'm glad they didn't pull too many punches when it came to showing what a galaxy living in fear was like.

Can't really say it caught me off guard because everything I've heard since the beginning said that would be the tone. But I guess it's like Game of Thrones were you're hoping for a "happy" ending but there's none to be found for the them. Although it does make you feel good inside that the Rogue Team's sacrifice was for a greater good.

And all this talk about Tarkin and Leia, but how about Red and Gold Leader? It's like they plucked those two out of 1977.

I think, but I could be wrong, that is because they CGI'd around old footage that didn't make it into the Battle of Yavin scenes from ANH. I believe the actors did record new lines though.
