Its not a lecture, it is showing why you saying its safe is so off base. If something is a big change in terms of Star Wars, how does that make it safe?

I know it's gonna be a shocker but SW is not entire cinematic history:sly:

You seem to think I was talking about casting a female lead was the "two big things". It wasn't. It was killing the most popular character in cinema history and leaving the hero of the OT to the final minute of the film, without one line to speak of.

Though Star Wars isn't the entirety of cinema history, it is most certainly the center. It is why other movies flee like Rebels at the sight of Vader. :cwink:

So outside of two of the biggest decisions in recent cinema history, it is safe. Along with casting a female lead, and no new while male hero. Okay.
It was too safe in my opinion. I don't think those things you mentioned change it. I don't see casting a female lead as a risky move and killing important character doesn't change it either. I was expecting it. The story was very safe.

Well if R1 contributes to the flop of that awful Passengers movie I will certainly like it even more

Yes, as long as you ignore plenty of aspects, it is expected. :yay:

I am curious what is going to happen next week with Assassin Creed, Passengers and Sing. If Rogue One is still number one, that would be pretty impressive. Perhaps the cold this week will lead to a slightly larger second week.

I don't think it looks awful, but I also can't imagine seeing it in theaters. I just want to know what the twist is. :funny:

I legit had to check what Sing is just now :) Assassin's Creed looks awful and Passengers is probably gonna get slaughtered by the critics (embargo lifts tomorrow). If the twist in the movie is the same as in the script then it is dumb as hell

I think R1 will easily stay at the top

Yeah it has some horrible pacing issues. First twenty minutes or so are painstakingly boring whenever Ben Mendhelson's not on screen. It gets its feet and becomes pretty entertaining and then the last act is incredible.

I'd say it averages to like an 8/10.

Spoilers:
How was the guy in robes who was kneeling to Vader? The one who we saw in the trailer too.

Oh my. I say I like 2 of those SW films yet still get a mini lecture...and casting female lead there is not groundbreaking in any way maybe for SW it is but certainly not recent cinema history
It is the Star Wars forums :o
Do you have his picture in your wallet Roose? Next to the one of Reek?

Do you want one, too?

In my wallet? No of course not.

I have his likeness painted next to Reek's on the ceiling of my local church.

Stop pretending you've stepped foot in a church... you know your skins burns.

It was killing the most popular character in cinema history

:lmao: :lmao: :lmao:

A church you actually attend, or do you just force that on others?

I have changed the lives of millions. Believe me.

Lucky you. :woot:

I see the trailers for Sing all day, no matter what I am watching, including sports. So I have to know it is coming out. :funny:

Did not know about the Passengers embargo breaking tomorrow. Another bit of entertainment to go with Rogue One. And I definitely agree on Assassin Creed.

I am now curious who you think it is. :funny:

You must be joking.

Han Solo isn't even the most popular character in Star Wars.

superman bond vader harry potter batman indy rocky scarface... to name a few.

A friend of mine suggested that Passengers and Assassin's Creed will knock Rogue One during its 2nd and 3rd weekends, respectively. I don't see it happening.

I really think you are underestimating how popular Han was and well still is. The Han solo is not a mistake.

Vader, I could totally see. But Han over the years has been consistently voted the favorite, at least from what I remember. But Vader or Han is fine.

Bond is great, and he'd have a consideration on longevity. Indy is Han, but not quite as popular. Superman, I mean consider the box office evidence. Batman is a good shout, but if the character was that popular, would the down turn in the box office had happened in the mid-90s? Scarface is funny.

Major ending spoilers so don't read if you haven't seen the movie. Don't ruin it for yourself.
I wasn't expecting them to kill the main charactres. It made sense but I would have liked to see more movies about them somehow. I liked them so it was sad to see it happening.

Really? I thought it was a given that's how it was always going to end. What shocked me more was....

...that the film ended just before the beginning of Episode 4.
I don't know what I was expecting but that completely blew my mind.

Yeah Rogue One and ANH might as well be parts 1 & 2 of a single film. It's pretty ****ing cool that they did that.

Both of those things really shocked me

I assumed most of them will die but didn't think they'll have the balls to kill the main two :(

I think the movie ended too abruptly. It didn't feel right. Same with The Force Awakens. The last shot in that wasn't the best.

I was kinda prepared for it.

Might have had something to do with....

....that awful CGI Leia. I get why they went that way but both her and Tarkin were distracting and fake as hell. They would have been better off just getting two lookalikes, especially when they've got a Han Solo movie with a completely different actor.
