I'll rectify this as (not a slam on DR. Jones, but the SW fanbase as a whole)

Tell someone you love the prequels, and see what happens. You would think you just shouted out a racial slur, as opposed to enjoying 3 movies. I would know, because I do. :gngl:
I dislike the prequels quite a bit and I have had many debates over them. But if you like them, enjoy. Its your enjoyment and if someone is going to get mad at you over it, they probably need to grow up. Thankfully I started doing that a while ago. :woot:

I don't like choking on my aspirations. It's coarse and rough and irritating and it gets everywhere.

Oh, what i meant (and not towards Jones or anyone here) is that Star Wars as a whole is a very, very much an angry and vitriolic fanbase, and people feeling the need to...er, course correct, I suppose someone's opinions is nothing new lol.

After watching Rogue One, I can see why Kathleen Kennedy said that there will be no sequel to this and I agree.

I wonder if all of the anthology stand-alone films will be in the setting between Episode 3 and 4.

I saw this last night. Loved it. The cgi character didn't really take me out of it. Thought it was really well done, bravo Gareth Edwards. Loved Jyn.

Big Spoiler

How could there be a sequel when literally every single one of the main characters dies? This movie has a higher casualty rate than Les Miserables!

As someone born in the 1970s, I’ve never liked that cover. :oldrazz:

Seriously. What IS that.

Hopefully no one will call you out for that. LOL.

Boy when things got a little testy around here, you mods let us know about it. Y'all are sort of like that scary place in the Dagobah system that was strong with the Dark Side... :cwink:

there is already a sequel to Rogue One, it is called Star Wars Episode 4: A New Hope :)

Most of the anthology are either with familiar characters and familiar settings so its understandable at the moment that they are going for familiar right now, once more is explored through episode 8 and 9 they may branch out more into later years.

I do wonder whether any of the rogue one characters will appear in any other 3-4 Anthology movies though since they would likely be set some time before Rogue one.

Forest Whitaker made it sound like Saw Gerrera may appear in another film at some point.

So, just as I hoped...seeing this a second time definitely was a charm for me. I had the same exact experience with TFA. The last act of this movie is just straight up Star Wars pornography, and man...I really got swept up in it this time. This movie undoubtedly had some of the best battle scenes ever seen in a Star Wars movie, and the visual effects in general where top notch (minus Tarkin...it was a valiant effort, but we're not quite there yet). It's hard not to tip your hat to just how well they managed to make this authentically feel like a direct prelude to the original film. I thought Jimmy Smits' brief appearance as Bail was wonderful, it was a bittersweet moment and it was note perfect.

Seeing it a second time also allowed me to get a bit more attached to the characters too. I guess I was ready to savor them more knowing for sure what their ultimate fates were.

What I will say is it's hard for me to really rank this over any of the saga films because this didn't quite have the mythic quality that I associate with Star Wars (the Skywalker saga is still the heart of SW to me). It had doses of it (specifically Vader's last scene...that literally felt like the stuff of legend), but overall I kind of file this one in a separate category from the saga films. As a visually stunning action/war film set in GFFA though, I think they knocked it out of the park. It gives me hope for future spinoff movies for sure, although I'm still just not interested in the Han movie.

To make it clear, I am not talking about the original music here. I am talking the actual use of Williams themes. My brother said it was like when someone is trying to avoid copyright, so they just change something a little bit. IT just felt weird to me.

I agree. Sometimes it felt like Giacchino was just deliberately trying to switch and bait with the the themes just to be different. I don't know...I know he had to crank this out in a hurry, but this movie just reinforced to me how much I really don't want him to be the one to take over for Williams when the time comes. It's not that I don't think he's talented, but his taste just very often goes in a direction I'm not fond of. Honestly I don't know who would be worthy of that mantle at this point...I'm just glad we're getting at least one more from Williams.

Not entirely true. For one, if I recall right the deathstar wasn't at it's peak right? I betcha alot of the robots survived. Granted we saw K-2so shot, it doesn't mean he was out of commission. Look what R2's been through for example. Would not surprise me at ALL if Rey finds him and activates him for some reason

I definitely agree a large portion is very angry. I like to say, no one hates Star Wars quite like a Star Wars fan can. And that can get out of hand, quickly.

Anyone notice the radio saying General Syndulla please report? As Jyn was giving her speech and right before rogue one went off to Scarif?

They should be, it's a nice change. I want to see a film directly after Episode 3. Vader hunting down the remaining Jedi.

It's true. Simon Pegg's lame ass is THE SHINING EXAMPLE! /Banevoice of this. I've already seen people dismiss R1 for having tie-ins to a PT movie lol. Like I said, perfectly fine to not like the PT, but that amount of hate...it's just 3 movies at the end of the day.

No, K2 was destroyed by the stormtroopers, and anything left to fix was destroyed when the Death Star nuked the city. His “goodbye” before he fell was the signal that holy hell, this movie is about to kill people off for good...

Good man..... this is what I thought Ep 3 would be. Vader turned and hunting down Jedi. Now after seeing that Vader scene in Rogue One, that's all I need in my life so I can die in peace.

That scene got me. K2 is an instant classic. He's like the anti threepio, and it totally works.

Also I think Donnie Yen had the best funniest line in any star wars movie, are you kidding me, I'm blind! His delivery was hilarious.

I thought that was the funniest line in the movie too. :funny:

I took my folks to see it last night, and my mom audibly reacted when K2 was shot down. That “Goodbye” was so sad.

“Rogue One, May the Force be with you” was from Admiral Raddis was heartbreaking too.

Honestly that was one of my major issues with it. It didn't ruin the movie for me by any means, it's still quite good. But that felt unnecessary to me. You didn't need to go THAT far just to sell the idea of "hope" and "sacrifice." It kind of left me feeling hollow at the end TBH.

What's great about the film is that while these characters weren't the most fleshed out, they still did a really fantastic job making us care when they met their end.
