My 4th viewing is tonight. And it is finally in IMAX 3D (as I am back in my home country for the holidays).

Some scenes will look terrific in IMAX (even though not shot with IMAX cameras).

I wasn't too keen on the R2 and 3PO cameo either. It came out of nowhere and seemed arbitrary. If we were going to see them anywhere, it should have been on Leia's ship at the very end.

Whitaker's take on Saw was definitely a good choice. The man was unhinged and obviously not all there anymore. Thus his final line was appropriate.

Chalk me down to getting a bit misty eyed as well during the hologram scene. She really sold it. I can't for the life of me see the bad acting some claim this movie is riddled with.

There are always going to be people who are contrary for the sake of being contrary. Everyone may love something, they have to hate it by default.

There were definitely a few questionable scenes in the movie (mostly down to CG or story editing choices) but I wouldn't say anyone was a bad actor.

I usually ignore the outliers. People who do not merely dislike or fault something but have an excessively bad opinion where no one else comes close.

I loved Bail's scene in the movie, it was perfectly bittersweet- but I can't help but feel he was underutilized as a character once again. Jimmy Smits brings a real majesty and charisma to that role that I really enjoy and it was great to see him again. However even if it was brief and he was mostly there as a reference for fans, I felt his moment with Mothma was a nice piece of connective tissue for the saga that felt organic.

The R2 and 3PO cameo, eh, could've lived without that one. Or at the very least they should've been saved for Tantive IV at the end.

Garth Edwards said that when they wrote the script, the team wasn't killed off because he was sure Disney wouldn't let him. Apparently he was wrong.

Speaking in the now-pulled podcast (which Empire says will reappear online on December 26th), Edwards says that after reading the script, the production staff saw only one way out for Jyn and friends. “Everyone read that and there was this feeling of like, ‘They’ve got to die, right?’ And everyone was like, ‘Yeah, can we?’” But with the famously family-friendly Disney in charge, Edwards originally looked for another, lighter, more survivable ending.

That was, until Disney gave him the green light to kill everyone. “We thought we weren’t going to be allowed to but Kathy [Kennedy, president of Lucasfilm] and everyone at Disney were like ‘Yeah it makes sense. I guess they have to because they’re not in A New Hope,’” Edwards told Empire. From then on, he had his license to kill, and the survivor ending wasn’t even filmed. “I kept waiting for someone to go, ‘You know what? Could we just film an extra scene where we see Jyn and Cassian, they’re okay and they’re on another planet?’” Edwards says. “And it never came. No one ever gave us that note, so we got to do it.”

I feel like the people who read Catalyst probably had less complaints about backstory and got a little more out of the film because it gives you so much more on so many main characters (Jyn, Galen, Krennic) going into the film.

I highly suggest reading it prior to seeing the film or listening to the audiobook. I figure with the popularity of the characters like Cassian, K2, Chirrut, and etc. they will eventually get around to expanding on these characters in their novels.

I mean who wouldn't want a Guardians of the Whills novel focusing on Chirrut and Baze? or even one focusing on K2 & Cassian?

I still think adding the crawl with a minor background on Cassian & K2 would have helped a lot with excerpts from Catalyst about Galen, Krennic, Tarkin, and Jyn. Given not everyone will read the novels or the non hardcore crowd this way to help fill in some blanks and backstory.

I was fine with what I got background and development wise from Rook, Chirrut, and Baze since they were introduced as characters who kinda got swept up in Cassian, K2, and Jyn's journey.

We got enough of their explanation through dialog for their backgrounds something I didn't think needed expanded any further in the film for their characters.

I think this design for Saw Gerrera also proves his scenes were reshot for the present timeline. According to Lucasfilm, this episode is set just prior to the events to the time period of Rogue One.

I just found something funny (it's not a nitpick, just a tiny observation) - isn't it weird how in the same continuity, Bale Organa in RO looks almost the same (but a bit older and with greyer hair) from ROTS, but at the same time Obi-Wan has aged from looking like Ewan McGregor to Alec Guinness.

I just found something funny (it's not a nitpick, just a tiny observation) - isn't it weird how in the same continuity, Bale Organa in RO looks almost the same (but a bit older and with greyer hair) from ROTS, but at the same time Obi-Wan has aged from looking like Ewan McGregor to Alec Guiness.

Living in the cushy luxury of Alderaan does wonders to ones health while living in a hovel on Tatooine rather sucks.

The death troopers are cyborgs with brain implants controlled by Krennic according to the art book.

More from the art book:

-Gareth Edwards pitched Jyn's entire back story. John Knoll's story outline included Jyn and K2, the rest of the characters were changed.

-Edwards also wanted Jyn's mother to be an ex-Jedi in hiding. This was later changed somewhat.

-Edwards pitched the entire Scarif battle which originally took place on a mountainous planet.

-Edwards wanted a rebel extremist character as a surrogate father for Jyn. The story group suggested he use Saw Gerrera.

-Chris Weitz added the guardians of the whills to his draft.

-It is strongly hinted in the book that Vader's castle will return in more films. Possible Knights of Ren headquarters?

John Knoll originally had an Imperial turncoat on the team named Krennic who was reporting to an ISB agent named Willix. Edwards and Gary Whitta switched Krennic's name and dropped the turncoat idea.

Gareth Edwards really did a lot of the heavy lifting on the story. Would love to see him direct another Star Wars movie.

John Knoll's story was more of a Mission Impossible type of film and was called Destroyer of Worlds.

Actually Rogue Squadron just got rereleased earlier this year on Steam. Dark Forces is pretty readily available, sadly, unless remade into the new canon, I don't think it'd benefit from an HD remake or anything.

I'd have definitely saved them for the end. Have the Rebel Soldier that's running down the hallway (to Leia) run past them and shout "Out of the way!". Artoo beeps, Threepio says "How rude", and done.
